I dont hunt, but my brothers do and my dad did. I have seen turkeys while driving through Wis lately, they are back - pretty cool.

We get deer in our back yard most nights, we have a lot in our subdivision.

I am not rural.........yet I can't keep the deer out of my yard.
In the last 10 years, seeing turkey is almost a daily thing.
Almost hit one that week. After a turkey has been hit, is it edible?

Almost half the state of Wisconsin is now in earn a buck. you have to kill an antlerless deer before going after Bucks. It is ridiculous. In 2000 we had a T-zone where a hunter had three tags, two antlerless, and one buck tag. Wisconsin hunters killed more deer in 2000 than any other year.

Give hunters a choice and I think the can take care of the numbers just fine. Handcuff us and shit will never get fixed.

Maybe if you grew a pair of balls your family would take you hunting.

Actually, it was the station manager, Arthur Carlson, who did the promotion. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

Antlers or not venison still tastes ok....so what's the problem? I'm assuming there are that many doe running around they have to do that kind of management. What is Wisco's reason for "earn a buck"?

The reason behind it is that gosh darn Chronic Wasting Disease. Just about the time where car accidents with deer starting climbing the DNR came up with CWD. Spooky.

They claim their is 1.8 million deer in Wisconsin and the number needs to be controlled where they are worried about the spread of CWD. Well, I have seen 12 deer this season, 9 of them have been in my back yard in the suberbs where the deer population is out of control because all we can do is hit them with our car. You ask anyone one with a farm or a piece of land about bow hunting or even legal shotgun hunting and they freak out.

Venison is great I have a whole freezer full. I really don't need anymore, so killing a doe would be only for a body count purposes. I would probably just end up donating it, especially if I got another deer to go along with it.

Do you have sausage made from it? What about steaks and roasts? Do you eat it that way? What is that like? The only thing I've ever had is sausage and also venison in chili.

I got about 50 packages of italian sausage in by freezer. We usually just get sausage done. We used to eat the steaks and chops, but it never got used up. We also got it ground and used for chili and tacos and such.

I guess Ven just isn't my favorite tasting meat. I like it ok, but not enough fatty membranes on it.

How much leaner are the venison steaks then regular steaks?

Rifle season starts next Monday here in WV. I'm heading north to camp with my dad and grandpa for about a week (coming home Thanksgiving) and hopefully I'll get a big buck. I didnt have any luck bow hunting this year.

Quite a bit. very little fatty membranes on venison, but the cholesterol is petty close.

Just got back from Deer Camp. We had four deer hanging in camp this year. I shot a doe late opening day. Another guy shot an eight point and before he could get out of his blind had the doe it was trailing come back and pay her last respects. now she is hanging in my garage too.

couple nights were down to 2 degrees and never touched 20 during the day. crazy weather.

Leaving in about 20 minutes for Deer Camp. Luck to all those going out in the woods in Wisconsin.

If it's still in one piece it's probably edible, but I bet wild turkey is a big disappointment for those who are accustomed to the mass-produced white meat popsicles you see at Thanksgiving. In any case, best to collect and eat only your own roadkill--don't go searching for sloppy seconds.

After, since the anus tightens up once an animal is dead
