How do you sell these fucking things? Some of them might be good, most are crap, and I wouldn't know the difference. It's been 15 years since I was at one of those shops and even then I felt more out of place than I did at State Street Arcade as a freshman.

I was going to ask how much you got for them!

I would sell them on e-bay if I had any idea how much they were worth.

Do people even still spend money on this kind of stuff? I kind of thought it went out with Beanie Babies.

I have bought and sold sports cards in years, although I still have a box of them. Probably will give them to my son when he gets older. If your cards are from 1990 or older then they probably still have value. After 1990 the market got flooded with sports cards and most are not worth anything. You used to see sports cards stores everywhere, but now they are hard to find.

Put them on ebay, then you will know. It is the free market at work. And maybe some gays can buy them.

A perfect wrap up to all these discussions.

well, if you stopped collecting 15 years ago, then you're in the same boat as me

50,000 cards, and they aren't worth shit

you almost have to get them graded now for them to be worth anything. then sell them on e-bay

I don't even know what graded means. Maybe I'll just use them as kindling. There's some nice Favre cards in there my wife would like to burn.

It's the magazine with the value of cards in it. You can find them at places that sell cards. I've never seen one in a magazine aisle of a grocery store or anything like that (then again I've never looked).

How about I pay you $5 to get me the magazine and some kiddie porn while you're at it. It seems the popularity of each "hobby" is about equal right now. Who the fuck is going to give me full value for a bunch of fucking cardboard pictures?

P, Why didn't you just say that in the first post. If he didn't know how to value cards, he certainly wouldn't have known what Becketts is.

I need to find out how much some old comic books are worth. When we were cleaning out my parent's house we found a box of comic books that are I'm guessing in the range of 40-50 years old.

It's how I stay competitive with you in post count :D

I assumed he knew what a beckett was as it seems like he has a lot of cards. Maybe I was just an uber dork in my youth. I used to flip cards with the local shop, but they have long since closed.

Comics can be worth a lot. Definitely worth looking into.

I started collecting basketball and baseball cards around 1990.

I even have some box sets that are still unopened.

I also used to send cards to pro players with a note and return envelope asking for autographs. Most were really cool and sent them back - a few notables were completed dicks and basically took my cards and sent back a standard note inviting me to their basketball camps (Shaq and Hakeem Olijuwan were the worst). I sent a gold plated card (at the time worth $50 to him and never got it back). The coolest was Jim McIlvaine - who apparently never got any fan mail and wrote me a series of letters.

I guess some of the autographed cards might have some value... but probably not.

All that hard earned lawn mowing and babysitting money - gone

I have some baseball cards from my youthful collecting days. Might support my retirement, huh?

I had a subscription to Baseball Beckett as a kid. They make one for every sport that has cards. There is even have a beanie baby one. Pick it up at Barnes and Noble. Its doubtful that you'll actually be able to sell anything for the price in there but it its a place for you to start.

If they are 40-50 years old I'm sure they are worth a good chunk of change. Probably more than sports cards. It also depends how good of a shape they are in. There is still a market for comic books. In Chicago every year they have a HUGE comic book show where thousands go.
