If our defense wasn't so defenseless I'd kick it. Since they are the worste defense in the NFL playing a great offense, well, you have no choice. If McCarthy kicks I'll be pissed.

The DL is really bad. If we had a legit DL Brees would not be waiting all day for these long developing crossing plays. Just pathetic.

We lost our best pass rushing DT and did not replace him

Harrell continues to look like a run stuffer at best; Jolly does not look like a pass rusher. He looks better and more mobile than Harrell against the run

The Jenkins loss really hurts as well

We need a lot of help there

There is almost an entire quarter left. I wouldn't do that. They just have to buckle down on defense. Do something new to generate a pass rush or it will be all for naught.

Totally agree. I hate that shit.

That's what I thought the flag was for.

I would have been cool with that call.

Ditto. What a little dick. The big staredown. Then whenever a fight breaks out in any of the big 3 sports, the majority of players swing like a bunch of ...well...not good...put it that way. Except for that baseball player who karate kicked the catcher right in the chest...That was a pretty good shot!

Nice onside kick!!! Give the Saints less of a field to work with.

All we need is a quick TD and a 2 pt conversion, onside kick recovery, bomb for a TD, onside kick, and another bomb for a TD.

Seems plausible to me :P

KORNHOLE SHOULD GET FIRED; clearly they don't want him to bring this up but since he has Dennis Miller like football knowledge it's the only thing he can babble about.

Let's answer the obvious

Most think GB would have a better record if they had Favre but no way of knowing
Most do NOT think GB would be Super Bowl Bound with Favre
Most people are alright with TT choosing the long term interests over short term

You know what? This sucks. It really does. We have to get stronger on the DL and to a lesser extent on the OL too.

All is not lost though. Odly enough, we still have a shot at the division with the Vikes likely being suspended and we'll get another shot at the Bears. The next positive is that we are young and look to be getting ready to lock up some core players to really grow together. Rodgers will get better. Much of the defense can continue to get better.

Man, that DL is bad though. They are really, really bad.

I ain't sure on the suspension but the Vikes QB play has been terrible after looking fairly solid for 2 or 3 games. I say all three teams are flawed so it's hard to say who wins.

Yeah, I know TT has been tight with the money - but we have to do something to bring some depth - and I don't think it can be done all in the draft. Clifton and Tauscher are another year older - and need replacements. Our interior O-line is nothing to write home about.

Our D-line has no depth and not very good.

We need more than just a few good linemen.

Kornheiser didn't play football, did play other sports through college (not a scholarship level). he's a sportswriter by trade. And he is there to give access and thought to the casual fan who may watch on Monday night but not otherwise watch football.

He knows the game better than he lets on, most of this is schtick to let Jaws and Tirico play off it. I actually wish Tirico would shut up and do Pat Summerall. Let Tony and Jaws go at it. They are great on the radio together.

Kampman, Jolly (if he gets his head on straight), Pickett, Jenkins

Maybe Thompson becomes something. He's really young. Harrell has about a 1% chance. These are prospects though. Right now they're junk.

In order to really excel with Dlineman like the ones we have, you need several of them. Last year we had Jenkins, Kampman, Jolly, PIckett, Williams and KGB all playing really well early. That is 6 compared to 4 this year (three after the Jenkins injury). Along with that we had Cole rotating in there to keep everyone fresh and they really played well early in the year. After the injuries we started dropping games and eventually flamed out. The moral of the story is that you need 6 or 7 really good defensive lineman IMO or 4 great ones and some average backups. We were way to thin. After one injury our defense was junk.

I won't go jumping off a cliff saying, "it will never be fixed", but I'm at the point where we better have a major shake up next year. Maybe it's a long term shakeup with a couple high draft picks or maybe it's through FA, but we can't go in with this group next year and act like everything is fine.

I didn't like GJ's game. He had a few where he looked lazy in not coming to the ball. He had one solid catch in near mop up situation.

Sure, the open missed TD was Aaron's bad throw - but you gotta catch that.

Really? You think this loss is on Rodgers? I know he had a part in it since he couldn't lead us down the field in the second half (again). But the piss poor play of the defense was what cost us this game.

Another chicken or the egg first.

Was it the defense couldn't stop them because A-Rod kept putting them in awful positions with limited breaks?

You guys are cutting Aaron way too much slack. He played a solid first half, unfortuantely, games are two halves, not one! He played incredibly poorly in the second half.

The game has to lie on his shoulders. He's the quarterback who couldn't lead the team down the field in the second half against a defense we consistently exploited earlier. He also threw three picks and made plenty of bad decisions.

Partial; you have gone way, way overboard in pinning the blame for losses on Rodgers. Not that he is blameless, but he certainly hasn't been the primary factor in the recent losses, just one of the contributing factors.

There is no "chicken or egg" quandary in this game. The defense (with "help" from special teams) had already given up 31 points before Rodgers threw his first interception. At that point Rodgers had lead three TD drives in in 5 possessions. The drives covered 37, 72 and 83 yards. Rodgers was 11/17 for 108 yards, 1 passing TD, one rushing TD, no interceptions. Unfortunately, while Rodgers was doing that, the defense gave up touchdowns on three consecutive drives covering 70, 41 and 76 yards, a fieldgoal on the next drive (probably only because the Saints ran out of time at the half) then an 80 yard drive on the fifth drive in that string. They gave up 31 points on the Saints first 6 drives, five consecutive scoring drives after the intial 3 and out.

No, the defensive collapse was firmly established before Rodgers committed a single turnover. Rodgers was by no means blameless, but the defense gave up 51 points, only 7 of which came after one of Rodgers interceptions.

Rodgers played "incredibly poorly in the second half"? Really? He conducted a 15 play 86 yard drive for a TD and completed a pass for a two point conversion. In the second half he was 12/24 for 134 yards and 1 TD. He had 17 yards running with the ball. Yes, he threw the three picks. The first certainly looked bad, and I won't try to excuse it; but if Jennings had not fallen, would it have been intercepted? I think it probably would have, but you never know. The second interception would not have happened if Nelson continued his route instead of stopping, and from all reporters at the game the coaches apparently got on Nelson pretty good on the sidelines after that. The final interception was on a fourth down play, after Rodgers looked and looked, bought time by moving away from pressure and finally put it up in the endzone giving a receiver a chance for it. Wasn't that just one of those "doing everything for a win" interceptions that so many forgave Favre for routinely? I have little problem with putting it up for grabs on fourth down. Why not try something? I do have a problem with throwing it up for grabs on 1st or 2nd down; but not on 4th and 16, trailing by 22 with 6 minutes left in the game. At least he threw it into the endzone and gained 10 yards of field position on the touchback (not that it mattered much at that point).

I am not absolving him of some fault on any of the interceptions, or maybe on some decisions he made. I'm just not convinced it was an incredibly poor performance by Rodgers. Yes, he did not play well enough to keep up in a shoot-out type game. But on the other hand he did conduct 4 pretty decent scoring drives.

The defense was atrocious. They couldn't stop anything if their lives depended on it. NO scored on what....7 consecutive drives? The Packers O was keeping the team in the game in the first half and part of the 3rd qtr, but the Packers D did not contribute one thing to help the team. I think Arod was the only player trying as hard as he could to help the team win. He was running for 1st downs, putting his body on the line in the TD score and knocking David out after he threw the pick. The Packers D was a complete failure and you can't expect the Packers O to compete in a shootout.

I disagree with you Patler. He couldn't capitalize against a weak secondary with minimal pass rush, and was chucking the ball to the defense left and right. Everyone would be at Favre's throat for the 3 INTs in the second half, and rightfully so. That is unacceptable. A-Rods second half stat line is 12-24 (50% sucks), 3 INT (sucks), 1 TD (against prevent... awesome!).

The defense takes some blame, sure, but Aaron had the chance to keep pace, and instead couldn't move the ball down the field, and handed NO the win on a silver platter with the INT that they returned to the 3ish.

Some blame? The defense deserves about 80% of the blame. Rodgers could have certainly played better, but the Packers were down ten before he threw his first pick.

After their 3 and out on the first drive of the game the Saints scored 5 straight times. You can't expect your QB to have to score TD's every drive just to hold serve.

I was disappointed in the throw to Jennings. Rodgers had plenty of time and it looked like he read the coverage wrong. David had a great jump on the ball. What if Jennings hadn't slipped though? You're probably looking at an incomplete pass and an offense that could still mix run with pass.

Once the pick happened and Deuce scored, everything changed. The Packers were down 17 and the Saints knew Rodgers would be passing every down. Completely different game after that as the Saints were able to focus solely on rushing the passer. I'd say Nelson let Rodger down on the second INT. He needs to learn to run through the route, as I remember him doing the same thing in another game this year.

Has Pacopete taken over Partial's acct?

Dude, like I said, Aaron gave them the ball in premo position for two of those touchdowns. Before the interception fest it was 24-21.

That is being a homer not to put significant blame on the QB.

It was 31-21 before his first INT. Yes, that INT led to a TD by New Orleans and it was not a good pass. His 2nd INT was where Nelson stopped his route and the coaches reamed him out for doing so. That INT didn't hurt us at all as the Saints turned it right back over. His 3rd INT was near the end of the game when it was already 51-29. So one of his INTs gave the Saints 7 pts. Our defense gave up 44 other points.

Exactly how is the atrocious play of the defense not the primary reason the Packers lost this game? Blaming A-Rod is laughable. Sounds to me like you didn't even watch the game.

The season was lost in the 2nd vikling game.

Now the Packers just don't care.

Nominated for stupid post of the week.

Hey doofus, they are 1 game out of 1st place now.

thats like winning a gold medal in the special olympics

we're a game out of first in what might be the worst division in nfl history
Not to be unkind, but so what? The competition is to get in this year's playoffs, and you deal with the competition you have now. If it's weak, you take advantage of it. When the New York Mets went 83-79 in a totally mediocre division and went on to the 1973 World Series, they didn't say "Well, our division's bad, so we don't deserve to be in the playoffs".

Absolutely. Rodgers only started throwing picks when they got behind and the Saints knew he was going to have to throw and take chances. My #2 culprit behind the defense would be some awful kick coverage on special teams.

Picks happen.

especially in playoff games...

Here's the thing:

I'd rather have 2 TDs and 2 picks, versus no picks and no TDs.

Looks like you got something resembling your wish this game :)

I agree with you on some, and others I don't. 10 points is a manageable deficit. When Rodgers made his crucial error, he put them in an unmanageable three score game, versus a very manageable two score game.

The picks kept the defense on the field and gassed.

The D played bad no doubt. They get some blame. Equal blame imo to Rodgers.

I don't think the first sentence in California's post was stupid at all. There is merit to it...every game is important obviously...but losing in the Metrodome could end up being the pivotal game of the season. Yes, mathematically they're 1 game out of 1st and that's why a team plays the whole season. Good news is they'll be back at home vs. Carolina..but the Packers have lost their last 3 games on the road. And to make the playoffs, they're going to have to win the NFC NORTH

Losing at the Metrodome with an offensive line MIA and missing a makeable field goal is not how a team can get an edge on clinching a division. They're a game out...yes but they're also 5-6 and would more than likely have to run the table.

What happened to you and the 'I'd rather have 2 picks and 2 TDs than no picks and no TDs'

P, your Rodgers hate has gone a little overboard here. The Packers TEAM (remember that concept?) put 29 points on the board. Twice Will Blackmon made a TD saving tackle deep in Packer territory. The D were not stopping the Saints offense before the picks and were very consistent through the game. Couldn't stop 'em before the picks and couldn't stop 'em after. It made no difference. As a matter of fact, the announcers mentioned late in the first half that the Saints would strike quick with big plays and the Packers would methodically drive down the field. According to what they were saying the Packers D should have gotten nicely rested between drives and the Saints D should have been gassed. There is a lot of blame to go around in this loss, but to lay a full half of the blame on Rodgers is way overboard. Then how much blame does Nelson get for not finishing his route? 25%?

I don't hate Rodgers. I actually thought this was one of his better games. He was far less skittish than he has been in weeks past, and I felt he held onto the ball just the right amount of time on numerous occasions.

The interceptions were bad throws. That can be fixed. The things I look for are the pocket presence, etc, the things you don't really learn in the class room.

He's progressed, regressed, then progressed again. He's very inconsistent. Note that I have said numerous times he has the skills to be very good. He has a very strong arm and is accurate on the deep ball.

Rodgers has not been "skitterish" in the pocket much at all, in any of the games. You made that claim regarding his performance in the MN game, which in my opinion was ridiculous because he stood in the pocket and was crushed many times after getting throws off. Sure, he has left the pocket to run early a few times, but there was running room available on those plays and his running plays have been mostly successful.

Of his three interceptions Monday, the first was the only bad throw. The second very likely would have been a completion if Nelson had finished his route, he was in front of the defender and should have been able to shield him from the ball. The ball was thrown low, where Nelson should have been the only one who could have caught it. It was actually a pretty good throw for that route. The third interception was on a 4th and 16 play and happened after Rodgers extended the play again and again by moving away from would be tacklers. He looked, and looked and looked. With no one apparently open he finally threw it into the end zone to give someone a chance to make a play. What else was he to do in that situation? I have seen nothing from any writer, broadcaster or anyone suggesting that he missed spotting an open receiver on that play. I thought Rodgers did a good job extending the play as long as he did. Taking the sack or throwing it away were not options on fourth down. Putting it up to give a receiver an opportunity was a good decision.
