AHMAN GREEN TO IR

The Houston Texans are expected to place Green on injured reserve today, the Houston Chronicle is reporting. That definitely ends his season, probably ends his time with the Texans and might end his career.....

I could see him coming back to the organization in some capacity (not as player).... assuming the Brown County sherriff would let him back in.

If the numbers in the article are correct, he earned just under $20,000 per rushing yard gained, or just over $76,000/carry.

$76,000/carry..... Good move TT. Lets see...

Marco Rivera
Mike Wahle
Ahman Green
Mike Flanagan
Javon Walker
Corey Williams

I know there must be more, this is just off the top of my head.

I'd take issue with Wahle and Williams in that list. The other 4 he decided to cut ties with as they were on the downside of their careers. Wahle and Williams go, it can be argued, while they were still playing very well - Wahle continued to have a good career, and we'll see with Williams.

Who cares what the Texans paid him....he was a big reason the Packers were close to a SB a couple of years. Trading for Green is one of the great Packer trades of all time.

No doubt. The trade to bring him here from Seattle will go down as one of the greatest deals in Packers history. He was one of my all-time favorites, too--but the shelf life of an NFL running back is mighty short. Did you see that Washington cut Shawn Alexander today?

I saw that, it seems like yesterday that Alexander was unstoppable in Lambeau.

Unbelievable similar careers for Green and Alexander:

Green - 2,015carries/9,045 yards; 375 rec/2,865 yards; 37 fumbles
Alexander-2,187carries/9,453 yards; 215 rec/1,520 yards; 31 fumbles

What does not show in the stats is that Green became a very, very good blocker. Alexander never was good at it. For that reason and his better ability as a receiver, I preferred Green. As runners, at their best there was not much difference between them.

Great point about Green's ability to block. I can't count the times he would stay back in on a pass play and just drill a blitzer. My he could bring the wood. He was also a great team guy and was usually the first to run out on the field to congratulate some other back when they scored.

He always said playing for Green Bay at Lambeau was as close as it got in the NFL to playing for Nebraska at Memorial Stadium. Coming from a guy born and raised in Omaha, he could not have said higher praise.
