I think that since there is not a forum for forum suggestions etc...., this thread will be posted to serve that purpose.

#1: I think there should be a forum for computer tips and tricks. Not necessarily a full blown help forum, but just a spot for people to ask for basic help like photo help, post about good programs they've run across, and overall just computer related stuff.

anyone else? I think ___________

Good idea; so make a thought provoking thread on it. It worked alright for Money Matters. Personally I don't know crap about PC's or utilizing technology in the forum so I could see people even posting things such as how to post pix in here..etc....that would make it helpful to some.

There you go Bretsky.

How do you post pic's on this forum? Anyone?

Buck, find the picture you want to use on the net. Then right click on the picture and copy the url. (www.Buckspicture.jpg) Then paste it into your message, highlight it and click on the Img button above the box where you type your posts. It should automatically put the right code on it so it comes out looking like this: www.buckspicture.jpg. If you hit the preview button at the bottom, it will show you whether you've done it right. If you have, just hit submit and you're done.

I see MJ beat me to it, but I'm gonna post this anyway

Woodbuck: This only works for pics that are on a website somewhere else on the web (that is, it does not work for pics on your computer's hard drive). I'm sure you know some of this, but I'll go step by step for the benefit of others who might read. Fool around with it a bit and you will be shitting out pics like Scott Campbell  in no time ...

1) Find the pic on the WWW that you want to post, and right click on it.

2) Click on "Properties"

3) You will see and address (URL) that looks something like this:

http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/jun06/yost630.jpg

4) Highlight that entire URL and copy it (right click, "copy" or Ctrl+C on the keyboard)

5) Paste the link in your Packerrats post, making sure to surround it with "Img" tags.

The easist way to do this is click on the "Img" button that you see at the upper right, then paste the link, and then click on the "Img" button again.
(note: actually, MJ's suggestion is easier yet---I keep forgetting to do it that way!)

http://graphics.jsonline.com/graphics/sports/brew/img/jun06/yost630.jpg

Here is a pic of me arguing with my brother.

Caption is optional. I suggest previewing the post before submitting to make sure it all looks good. Obviously I failed to take my own advice, b/c I had to go back and edit.

I think this computer tech support thread is a really good idea. As long as there aren't 100 million questions a day I would think I can probably handle them. Let me talk to mad and see if we can set up a system.

What if I have a jpeg on an email or on hard drive; how do I post that ?

This is something I've not done myself (I'm still learning this stuff too!), but basically, you find a place on the web that will allow you to upload your picture, and then link to it at that website using the same method as above. There's just the preliminary step of getting the pic onto the web.

There are sites that do nothing but host pictures. Photobucket.com is one that I'm aware of.

What if I have a jpeg on an email or on hard drive; how do I post that ?In an email, right click and save it to your machine. You then need to have oit hosted somewhere that allows hot linking of images. There are many, but as previously mentioned, Photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/) is good, as is imageshack (http://www.imageshack.us/index.php).
The main difference between those two sites is at p-bucket you join and have your own account where you can keep the images/swf files etc...in your own folders etc..... This is particularly handy for images you want to keep for long term. On the other hand imageshack is a "post as you go" type site and is better for pics that you'll only be posting for 1-2 posts and you're not concerned for keeping that image long term.
Both sites will give you all the codes you need for posting it anywhere on the web. They give you the HTML and php/BBcode for forums, and also the exact URL where the pic is hosted.
The best feature about imageshack is that they also give you the option to post the pic as a clickable thumbnail:
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1780/redtrack2ny.th.jpg (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=redtrack2ny.jpg)

This is especially nice for forums because a small thumbnail loads ALLOT faster, and for people that are still on dialup it's a godsend and allows then to view threads that otherwise they would close out because of the long time it takes for some images to load.

JPE files are not an allowed image type.

Check your file extension. It should say .jpeg. Yours says .jpe. Try resaving the image file as a .jpeg and upload again.

No, just renaming it doesn't change it to a jpeg. You can do it a few ways- this is the easiest:

1. Open the image and click File.Save As and choose jpeg from the drop down.

But now you have to put it on an image hosting site like photobucket, then they will give you a link. Don't ask me how, I've never done it. And shouldn't pictures with names like 'galkiss' go in the garbage can?

MadtownPacker

You are saving it as an HTML file. Just get the first one that had the JPE on the end and rename the file "whatever.jpg". If you are not able to see the JPE or JPG extensions PM me a way to get you on IM so I can walk you through it.

Don't see a drop down, but what should I be using a specific program to open the image ? I've been opening it with IE, but then it turns into a html doc and wont' load.

Here's some screenshots...

Right click the picture and choose save as...

OR - opening document saved to your desktop and choosing File.Save As from the menu and choosing JPEG from the 'Save as type:' drop down.

just an FYI, when you upload pics to photobucket, they give you the exact code (you'll see 3 different codes, use the one at the bottom)- all you have to do is copy and paste that code into your message and then submit... it's the easiest program that I've found for posting pics.

I'D LOVE TO WOODY; but I may actually bribe a member in here to post them for me. I can handle a Digital Picture and emailing it to somebody; but I worry it'd take me about 1 year to figure out how to post it in here.

Cheers,

Save the pics to your computer and upload them to something like picsplace.to

You just have to get them to a weblink code (copy/paste that here) just like any other picture.

It's not that tough...
