My wife and I just put up the first Christmas tree in the new house we bought. So, my question to you is: Are you putting up a real tree or an artificial tree?

We bought ours from a local grower from here in Maine. It's a Fraser Fir, too.

Fake tree. It's illegal to cut trees in Korea.

Canaan Fir from a tree farm northeast of Wausau.

Balsam Fir from some guy who lives in his truck. The wife keeps threatening to get an artificial one, but every time we look, they still look like ass compared to the real thing.

We got a Douglas Fir--the state tree of Oregon.

Yes, we still did the traditional trip out to a local tree farm to select and cut our tree.

I realize I am definitely getting older as it seemed to take more effort to saw it down with my trusty hand saw. When one guy showed up with his own chain saw, I cast a very contemptuous look at him. By the time, I was only 3/4th of the way hand-cutting my tree, I was getting downright envious of him! :)

I dunno. I like trees so I pull mine out of a box each year. Doesn't smell all piney, but doesn't need watering either. I wonder what they do with all the trees at the end of the season. Surely there must be some purposeful thing that gets done with them. Right?

Here in Wausau, thet get picked up by the sanitation crews and become mulch.

My brother, a true Yooper, went out on his own property found the perfect tree, realized he'd forgotten a saw, too far to walk back to get one.......so he shot it down.

I believe the same happens here in Augusta, ME.

Well, with a tree that big, I can see why you'd want to tie it to your roof--that puppy would be dropping needles all over your interior otherwise. :P

Here in Maine, it's pretty close to being a sacrament. 8-)

Out here in Oregon, a number of Scout groups, with parent help, take $5 donations to recycle them as mulch.

Nice earthy crunchy idea. Then let me guess, they sell the mulch in the spring, right?

Actually this is my annual Christmas car decoration. I was parking at the Blackhawks game last night and the attendant was taking pictures of it. I get that a lot-just thought I would share.
It's a fake BTW.
