that he refused to send his kids to!

I think the teachers union and the education system in this country is one of our most serious problems. This guy (Arne Duncan) has zero accomplishments (oh wait, just like his boss) and has no record of opposing the teachers union.

The last place in the world a union is needed is in the American public education system.

But then all those teachers fired for fucking their students while surfing for kiddie porn in the classroom wouldn't have a body to help them grieve their case and get reinstated so they can get back to educating the next generation of our kids. And fucking them. While surfing for kiddie porn. While occasionally drunk. And high.

I'm pro labor and I'm for breaking the teachers union or forcing them to reform. bad teachers here are never fired just shuffled all over the fucking place. The teachers, cops and firemen make their own rules and we pay them plus we pay the consequences.

Agreed.

So this is the "CHANGE"?? Another liberal hiring a labor union friendly hack from a failing school system. Just great.

Unions are an anachronism in any profession. They have helped with a lot of the labor laws in this country, but their time has come and gone.

Their time has not come and gone like you suggest...but there needs to be reform and accountability.

You think Barry would've chosen someone better. The school system in Chicago sucks. Even the Chicago Tribune has written bad stuff about Arnie Duncan.

As an entity the CPS is the worst in the country. 6 out of 100 kids graduate from a 4 year institution following their time there! This is hope and change we can believe in alright.

Yes, yes, yes. But how much money do they spend? That's the most important gauge of success in a liberal administration. Something tells me it is a lot.

The head of the teachers union here was on a rickshaw in Denver(2 days before school started) during the DNC ( I cant make this stuff up)when a local activist was ready to bus some kids from the city to Winnetka (a nice suburb) in protest of all the cash he thought they were getting. They're always looking to throw money at every problem and piss it away.

Hmm. Ok.

Boosted test scores. Grad rate up 6 percent. Created 53 new schools.

In 7 years, elementary scores went from 38 percent meeting standards to 67 percent.

Dropout rate has decreased every year he has been in charge.

Hmm. Criticized by educators for pay for performance. Pay for grades...hmm, i seem to recall a daughter of certain republican touting just that.

Hmm. Tried to enforce higher standards for teachers and principals. Closed and reopened schools..and made teachers reapply for their jobs.

Criticized Ayers...oops. Shouldn't be doing that...makes conservatives lose their mind when things arent' black and white.

I'll also toss in the fact that the study Sheep posted about 6 out of 100 graduating college was a study of 1998-1999 HS graduates, before Duncan took over.

Well, at least the kids are in good hands with a school's PTA members.

Nassau Cops: PTA Mom, Boy Found Half Naked In Car

(edit) It was in the rear of the elementary school parking lot where patrolling officers said they noticed the foggy and steamed windows of an SUV. They approached and knocked on the window.

"They observed a woman in her 40s and a boy who appeared to be a teenager. They were not clothed from the waist down," said Lt. Kevin Smith of the Nassau County Police Department.

At first, police said, the boy said he was 18. Later at the hospital, though, he admitted being 13 but claimed he and the PTA mom were only kissing.
.................................................. .................................................. ....

No clothes on from the waist down. Only kissing.

The 13 year-old boy couldn't be lying, could he?

Great-they went from horrendous to suck-pretty-bad.

Besides, the point was Mr and Mrs Obama would not send their kids there. (they live in the city)

Sing this to the tune of . . . . .
"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen."

Wake up, old Rod Blagojevich, the Feds just rang your bell.
Just step outside ... and take a ride ... no time for extra gel.
They heard the tape ... there's no mistake ...
This state's half-way to Hell.
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy, save Illinois! Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

How could you, Rod Blagojevich, this really has me beat.
It wasn't nice ... to put a price .... on that there Senate seat.
The way you threatened Wrigley Field
How can the Cubs compete?
Oh, tidings of comfort and joy, save Illinois! Oh, tidings of comfort and joy.

Get real there, Rod Blagojevich, you're much too smart a man.
Remember what this state has done to Otto, George and Dan.
If Durbin doesn't write a note
You'll join them in the can.

Oh, tidings of comfort and joy, save Illinois! Oh, tidin gs of comfort and joy.

Dean, you continue to mystify me. Is my memory faulty, or weren't you solidly liberal and a staunch Obama supporter? If so, this appears to be disenchantment that I'm seeing--a bit of buyer's remorse. Could you (and maybe Freakout too) be the first wave of a tsunami of Obama voters realizing they were hoodwinked?

My take on this particular Obama appointment is that the job is more of a technician than a policy-maker, and he apparently did a reasonably good job as a technician in Chicago. It would be interesting to hear how Sheepshead's '98-'99 stats changed during Duncan's tenure.

So far, I can't complain all that much about Obama's cabinet and other appointments, although it's still early. That rotten word, "change" seems to have gotten shoved to the back burner in favor of business as usual--with a listing toward the left, but not a dive over the port side of the boat.

Tex,

:bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2: :bs2:

When the hell did I ever, repeating EVER, state I wanted Obama in???

Please provide links proving it..... oh, that's right, they're hard to find, because...
THERE AREN'T ANY!!!

Calling me a liberal is utterly laughable. I voted for the useless carcass McCain, mainly because I did not approve of Obama's liberal-leaning tendenciies, but mainly because the pick of Palin kept me from voting libertarian. I have never voted Democrat in an election. Not that I wouldn't, it's just that the current Dem party will never nominate a pro-life, socially conservative Democrat (insert oxymoron here).

If I want Obama to succeed in getting the economy back on track, that's because I know that it will be good for the country.

The only thing mystifying here, Tex, is your memory.

Glad to hear you are on the good side of things.
