No problem friend. A Portland buddy of mine always gets a few from a trader out there. I still have the last two years sitting in the cellar and we should drink them together this winter. Perhaps at the bottom of a ski hill.

Always a good idea considering moose kill more people here than bear do.

The Tooths beer is nothing special IMHO.....good but nothing great. Much better is to be had around these parts. The Fairweather IPA is nice but everything else is boring. But I'm a snob.

This is beautiful:

It has been calculated by environmental experts that one single bottle of imported beer uses 900g of CO2 - wiping out two-thirds of the annual carbon savings made by replacing all light bulbs in an average home with energy-saving models.

Drink two and you’re in credit.

Don't know if this is a great beer.

New beer from La Cross. It is called Game Time.
Two flavours. Ice and Light.
It about 5.99 for a 12 pack.

Ice was too sweet and the Light was lacking in bubbles.
Is this a reformulated Old Tile Formulae?

I like ale too.

A bigger animal. Saint John, New Brunswick's Moosehead Pale Ale. It won an International Award some time ago. That Brewery makes the 'Moosehead Green' a lager, I see in the States alot and the really decent Lager named ALPINE. THe Acadians home in the Maritimes really purchase a shit load of that stuff.

You often see a Grand Mananer (another ROCK in the Bay of Fundy) toating a 2-4 and a biggie of Captain Morgans Dark or Amber Rum on a weekend. . . . and . . . . a bag of dope in a rear jeans pocket.

I also really like Oland's Export Ale from Nova Scotia. Smooth. Really smooth Ale.

I'm enjoying a UNIBROUE 'Blonde' Lager. right now. 4.5% alcohol and smooth with no aftertaste. Brewed at a Micro Brewery in Chambly, Quebec, Canada. Very decent and cheap.

The price of beer in Quebec is ............. highly............. civil.........ized.

I use a lil dark beer in my chili....otherwise my beer experience has pretty much been Coors Light. Mostly because I loved their commercials a few year back with the song Love Train! :)

Good Lord! You may as well drink Grain Belt. At least then you can tell your taste buds that you saved $5.00/case while you murder them.

I purchased two beer made in Poland this weekend both 5oo ml bottles 'brown' and nicely packaged;

a) 500 ml Polish est. 1856 at ZYWIEC Brewery, Polond. Called simply ZYWIEC that has been awarded medals and the LOGO Label depicts two people doing 'a Polish dance'.

b) 500 ml brewed at Warka Brewery, Warka , Polond witha GOLD Label with RED writing WARKA 'strong'. That label also depicts a hero of your American Revolution one Kazamierz Pulaski (1754-79). this strong beer is 7 % alcohol so when i did the math and worked out the cost based on a 5% beer. It worked out to 'only' $31.00 'a flat...24 bottles'.

Both of these beers were flavourful..interesting with some kick that surprized me. It's too darn cold here now for beer.

Long time ago, sometime around 1977, I went to Arizona to visit my grandfather. We went shopping for a few things and he threw a six-pack of Coors in the cart. Later that day he and I popped one open and its mild, smooth flavor was an epiphany to one raised on the fizzy sourness of Stroh's and Old Style. I've had Coors since, but it seems watery and ordinary, and it has never been anything like that original goodness.

Are any of you beer guys old enough to know from experience if there was that much difference between the old unpasteurized Coors meant for constant refrigeration and local consumption and the new formula meant for the masses?

Both are extremely strong - 9+%. Commodore Perry "Don't give up the sip" clocks in at around 7.0%

Any Pumpkin Ale fans? I always considered it to be gimicky but the last couple of years I get addicted at this time of year.

Trolling thru the thread and noticed this post. Shocktop had a Pumpkin Spiced Belgian style ale. Bought a 12pk at local groc. store when I saw they were clearancing it out at $5/12 pk. A little pumpkin, nice hint of clove, but overall very tasty.

Did you hear the one about Ovila Abbey Beer made by the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

This is a Belgian Monk style with the same way as the real deal.

This one is made so the monks can live in their Randolph Heast 16th century chucrch he purchased when shopping in Europe back in the day.

Willing to bet it is not for sale in Okalhoma.

That story is educational. I've drank so many different beers in my adulthood. Facts related to different beers are often interesting.

This question is related to another post here on this thread. I've never associated beer with the quote:

Was that a good year? Maybe that question is asked in terms of the batch year?

In most cases I thought the shelf life of a beer was relatively short as in 'months' or 90 days as the time before breweries pull their beer from the shelves.

Here's more on that question:

This beer is not too shy to froth up, three fingers of head with a good retention as well. Bright copper hue shows many bubbles rising to the top. Thick and rich toasted grain aroma with a bit of herbal hop in the nose. Deep smoothness with a creamy slick medium body. Heavy hand of malt sweetness though it never becomes cloying. Sweet bready overtones with a hint of grassiness from the grain. Hop bitterness is modest but enough to balance, some herbal flavor does come through in a soft and pleasant manner. A clean sweet graininess lingers in the finish.

What a remarkable beer. Clean with not off flavors, even the malt sweetness does not show a caramel tone to it which most American versions do. Very drinkable and a sure pick. I'll be seeking this beer out next year, no doubt.

I've only found this on the mainland a couple times, but I'm hooked. Thankfully, I'm headed to Hawaii in a few months.

I've found those beers taste best on Ali'i drive watching the waves break on black lava. Heading to the Big Island NEXT WEEK.

Which island you going to?

Which of the micro-climates do you guys like on Big Island? I went with my ex-wife, so my memories are not that great (I probably need to go back again and see if I like it better)…….just remember I felt as though I was driving on the surface of a different planet most of the time in the lava fields by the resorts. Although it also felt like rural Wisconsin too up by Waimea.

I don't even know where to start, it's all so rad. The first time we were on the north side which was just wet enough, but not TOO wet. We rented a house and it was super chill. The second time, we got a condo on Kona, talk about perfect weather 24/7. We're renting a van this time because we want to get a little more immersed in the environment/culture. We're going to spent more time in Volcano, etc to get a better feel for that. I'd like to spend a nite on Mauna Kea, but I have to sell the wife on doing a "crash and dash" up there.

It's a work trip for my wife, so I have quite a bit of downtime. We stay at Hualalai so it's actually tough to get motivated to leave the resort. On her off day we go exploring. The waterfalls are amazing. I want to find the green sand beach this year. Tried last time and had no luck. We did end up walking ~2 miles off the road and found an amazing cliff overview where there were no houses.

The fact that I drove from a beach, through a desert, through a pine forest, through a rain forest, and ended up at 3200 feet above sea level where there were a bunch of cattle farms....that totally blew my mind. And the whole trip is like 3 hours.

I agree. It's okay. I think it's found a niche with people who don't want much bitterness in their beer, but want more flavor than you get in the mass-produced beers. New Glarus makes several beers that I think are better.

Found a interesting Wisco beer here in Bend. I normally ignore the dessert beers but glad I got this one.

Tomorrow is day 28 of my 28 day no beer challenge. Really hasn't been bad. I sleep better, my resting heart rate is down and post more coherently, I think.

Toughest parts have been Friday after work, puttering away in the garage and watching football.

I came across Yuengling beer about a year ago. I really like it for "nothing special" drinking.

Sorry to hear that. When you finally go back, remember that beer is a wonderful mild anti inflammatory agent. Much better for you than NSAIDs. Helps move the post-run recovery right along.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I love my beer.

I got a bottle of a Little Sumpin', Sumpin' waiting for me.

The question is how value does it add?

My father-in-law lived in PA for about 35 yrs. He loved the stuff. He went to their brewery store and bought a couple of cases to bring back to MN and they gave him an extra bottle. When he asked what it was for the guy said "It's a roadie". Gotta love rural life.

They claim to be the oldest brewery in the US. Until recently, apparently it was available only in PA. Now they have very limited distribution outside of PA. I first had it in Florida. Since one of my kids lives in PA, I have a steady source.

I have stopped drinking entirely outside of when I travel for work. So once a quarter, I have a three day bender essentially. The rest of the time it feels great. I 100% believe booze is killing us (like many other things). It's insane how much better you feel when not drinking at all.

I've toured Yuengling and met the old man one of the sons who own the empire. Great tour, you get the see their ancient fermentation cave dug into the side of a mountain to keep it cool for lager yeast to work. Can still see where it was sealed up for prohibition.

I first had Yuengling in Virginia in 2008 because it was the cheapest thing around that still came in bottles. Since then they've slowly been moving west. Now they're in Indiana. I asked the old man why we can't get it in Wisconsin and the picture I took away is that they are salty old German family businessmen who only expand when a golden opportunity comes along to buy up a failed brewery for pennies on the dollar.

This one has activity because so-called beer drinkers are showing their true colors. Well, not George Cumby, I suspect he's still a real beer drinker and that he posts cuz he actually failed the one-month challenge and is in a state of denial. It's ok, George, we still accept you!

That raises an interesting question: who feels guiltier, the weed smoker or the beer drinker? I say beer. Pot smoking seems to make people refractory to external judgment.
