What do you think is the best sports story of 2008? Is it the Olympics with Usain Bolt's incredible speed at the 100 and 200 meter races? Is it Michael Phelps winning 8 gold medals? Or is it even 35 point underdog Oregon State upsetting #1 ranked USC in Corvalis for the second time in 3 years?
According to columnist John Canzano, the best sports story occurred in college women's softball. That is the story where the Western Oregon player hit a game-winning home run but tore her ACL after rounding first base. Unable to continue, she lay there writhing in agony in the infield dirt. Two opposing players from Central Washington picked her up and carried her around the remaining bases allowing her to touch second, third, and home with her uninjured foot.
