Following are the guys who either need to be re-upped or will be sent packing this offseason or next. I think a majority of them will be offered contracts, but many of them will either not be re-upped or will be signed and ultimately cut this training camp or next. TT will no doubt take wait-and-see approach with a few of the questionable fits whose deals expire in 09, but but at this point, here's what I'd like to see happen.

Re-Up
Hunter 08
Kuhn 08
Martin 08
Bigby 08
Williams 08
Kampman 09
Chillar 09
Pickett 09
Collins 09
Colledge 09
Jennings 09
Spitz 09
Blackmon 09

Upgrade/Youthanize
Tauscher 08
Cole 08
Montgomery 08
Bush 08
Humphrey 08
Wynn 08
Clifton 09
Moll 09
Jolly 09
Peprah 09
Pettway 09

I'd be really sorry to see Tausch go.

I think with his injury, he can be brought back for a reasonable price, and they'll do that. He's done yoeman's work there, and I have to believe he'll come back from the injury.

Great list...but I do agree Tauchy at a deece price is fair.

Of the 08's, is anyone other than Tauscher unrestricted?

I think Cole is good as gone, last I remember that packers offered him 3 mill a year and he thought he could get more...

Hard to follow a post when you make up your own words.

Some of these guys are bench players. Always have been, always will be. Also, some are very very good on special teams. Have you taken that into account with the guys you either want to murder or show the fountain of youth to?

WTF??

euthanizeI think your missing the meaning of "youthanize". As in going younger at a position ie Tausher, Clifton etc.

I thought "Youthanize" was clever, and it was clear that he meant "replace with a younger player."

Jolly? And DeShawn Wynn?? Wha?

You clearly are not a member of the "Wynners" fan club, Vince.

Wynn is one of those guys who are tough to cut because every once in a while they flash great potential. Wynn is probably the most physically talented of all the Packer running backs. He will get another chance.

Jolly will probably start at DE if he is cleared of drug charges.

If nobody ever made up their own words we'd all still be grunting and pointing. That wouldn't make for much a forum now would it?

I also thought "youthanize" was funny.

Yes I know how to spell euthanize sheep, and no I'm not suggesting anyone be killed. Sorry you missed the play on words. Good to see most people got it.

All of those guys you say are "good on special teams" are thoroughly upgradable in my opinion. I agree with those who say Thompson may have screwed up letting White go when forced to make a roster move because of his special teams ability, but I while a bunch of these guys whose contracts are coming up play special teams, I don't see much special out of any of them. Special teams were anything but special this year. There will be turnover this offseason and next, and I'd say these projections are pretty minimal. There has never been less than 10 new guys on the roster since Thompson came on board. A lot of draft picks stick, if for no other reason than they need time to develop. These guys have had that time and have developed into nothing more than special teams bodies. When combined with getting younger at OT, hence the term "youthanize."

Either Wynn or Lumpkin won't come out of training camp. There aren't enough spots for 4 RBs, and I figure Grant and Jackson are locks. I'm going with the harder working Lumpkin to beat out the underachieving Wynn.

At this point, I think Jolly will play this season out of d-line need, but won't be re-upped after this year. I just think he's a tad miscast in the 3-4 at both DE and NT, and his affinity for large doses of codeine during his time away from the team doesn't help him much. Given two offseasons, I think Thompson can improve his spot on the roster with someone who's a better fit. I hope I'm wrong about Jolly, as we definitely have serious needs at his position - whichever one it becomes.

Cliffy and/or Tausch may well stick this year too. If Tausch is resigned, he might be here for a few more years yet. I think there's little chance Clifton makes it past this upcoming season. He's on his last legs.

There will obviously be an injection of new talent to the roster, as there is every year. It's now gettng difficult to project nearly as many existing players being replaced as in years past though.

This reminds me of a porn movie I once saw about young Chinese girls. It was called "Youthinasia".

Jackson, Wynn, Lumpkin--all backup RBs, isn't that what they invented IR for? I bet at least one of them develops something to make the list, and the other two stay.
