Ducks OL lineman Max Unger Is Versatile

The Oregon Ducks lineman Max Unger has proven to be very versatile as an offensive lineman. This past year, he was the Ducks' starting center but is capable of playing guard and tackle as well.

According to one scout, Unger's versatility speaks well to his football IQ. He states, "Any time you play different positions you have to have a real good level of maturity, instinct and work ethic."

Some scouts have Unger going as high as the late 1st round. I trust the Packers scouts are giving Unger a good look.

He has a good name for an OL.

The Packers have a few needs to address, and picking up a good OL is one of them.

TT needs to come out of his free agent shell and pick up a few good players this year. MM may them them to help with the 3-4 transition.

Unger's draw is his versatility. There are better C's, better G's, definitely better T's, but he's a rare 5 position lineman. Colledge is a 4 position lineman, I've seen Unger compared as Colledge's opposite. Whereas Colledge can play all positions but C, T is his best and he's best suited to LT, Unger can play all 5 decently, but LT is probably his worst position and LG his best. He has tackle feet, but isn't as long as a good LT.

MM likes versatile lineman, Unger is definitely the best of the multi-position lineman this draft, there isn't really a good LT/LG prospect this draft, Kropog, Meredith, and Fulton maybe? Jason Smith is the best of the type, but he's a top 10 pick, and thus pigeonholed at LT. There isn't a whole lot of difference between Colledge and Smith aside from pre-draft hype. Athletically and experience-wise, they are quite similar, including the 2 pt stance concern.
