This is my most anticipated movie in awhile. Any see an early showing or plan on going to see it today?

A review I read said it is based on some sort of hallowed underground comic book/novella revered by all of geekdom. The plot was described as being rather beyond description as many of the story's elements are non-linear.

And apparently the galactic squid was written out of the ending, risking the eternal ire of "Watchmen" purists.

You'll have to let me know if Dr. Manhattan is the right shade of blue.

??? Are you that fucking judgemental over someone reading a comic? What do you do with your life that you can judge me?

Also, note the hypocrisy in making a statement like that towards me, but not Nutz, after Nutz admitted to being a comic fan as well.

Anyway, instead of thread crapping (please go back to JSO, everyone here hates you), let's discuss the topic at hand, shall we?

I've heard that its a pretty gruesome and intense movie. Definitely very true to the comic, so I don't recommend taking your kids thinking its going to be Spiderman.

Porn for nerds. I won't say it sucks until I see it, though that's what I'm hearing, but then again, I probably won't see it for a couple years because it looks pretty mundane, except for that owl guy who looks like a queer raver gone wild at a comic book convention. That outfit is the main reason I don't want to see the movie to be honest.

Well, I'm not sure how I feel about the movie. I've let it settle in for about 18 hours now, and I'm still not sure what I think.

It was fairly true to the comic outside of a few missing back stories. They left out a lot of the philosophical content, and I think they could have done a better job of Rorschach's back story, especially pertaining to his unwillingness to compromise.

They changed the ending, and I actually like the new facet of the story more, but I did not care for the execution of it.

It was the best movie since the Dark Knight by far, and while it was less entertaining, it was far more thought provoking.

It was excessively gruesome. It kind of reminded me of Saw in that regard, and I'm fairly squeamish about that sort of thing.

Overall, I give it an 8/10. I'll probably go see it again next week during spring break.

What? Watchmen is a GN that a lot of book clubs, etc read. This is a big story. Just because the novel has pictures, doesn't mean it isn't a quality story.

As a matter of fact, one could make a strong argument that some of the best stories ever written were related to comics. Spiderman and Batman for example, are both deep, complex stories.

Sheepshead, when is the last time you sat down and read a book cover to cover? I would be curious to know, because you sure are quick to throw people who actually do read something (albeit a slightly different medium under the bus). People reading comics are at the very least reading something, which is more than I can say for most people.

I saw it this weekend and I'm not going to lie I thought it sucked. It lasted an eternity. I never read the comic and after reading partial's thoughts I wish I would have first. I can tell that the plot would make an awesome comic but it just didn't flow well for a movie. As expected there were some pretty cool things visually, I can see how someone who was familiar with the comic would enjoy it.

I think you would have liked it a lot more if you read the comic first. It is fairly difficult to follow as a movie without knowing the back stories, I've heard. Even after seeing it, I still think you'd enjoy the comic. Maybe something to do over Spring Break?

I've heard the scene during the credits is worth the cost of admission alone for a lot of 40/50-somethings. Lots of good historical events changed around there. They show you the kennedy assassination, the helicopters flying in like they do in apocalypse now, and many more.

I particularly thought the scene with the girl putting the flower in the barrel of the gun was funny/gruesome. First I laughed, then I clammed up.

Second highest grossing movie ever isnt exactly tough when movie ticket prices just keep going up and up. It's so fucking dumb that studios use this as a point to brag. How about number of tickets sold for a movie?

I liked Batman and hate nerdy movies in general...

Watchmen was horrible IMO ... the plot went all over the place trying to explain everyone's back story and it never went into full on action... all my roommates friends (a bunch of Georgia Tech grads) and myself left looking at each other like "wtf was that all about?"

That might have been because all of us fell asleep at least once (except the one guy who owned the comic book) ...

I could never ever ever ever watch that POS movie again.

Great books. I've been developing my subconscious decision-making ability for a couple years now.

Although it's business/marketing centric, one can learn a lot from "Selling the Invisible" by Harry Beckwith. Really enlightening and a book I suggest as much as possible!

That's what I thought the movie would turn out like. Having multiple good/bad guys worked for X-Men, because their names pretty much summed up their character, which allowed time for pulling just the right amount of backstory out of the more interesting characters.

With this show, I can look at this collection of dorky looking "heroes," read their names, and still not know anything about them other than they need a new tailor. Combine that with all the excitement about pleasing the fanboys, and it screams, "I am an unfocused mess meant to generate revenue through nostalgia and nerdiness!"

Did your friend expect the villains to treat the woman superhero with more respect? Maybe ask her to move into a non-combat role? I'm sure she could cook for the men superheros. Maybe bear some superhero children?

I'm joking. I don't actually know the extent of the woman beating going on. Maybe it's why some people liked the film.

Apparently when she finally got up and left was when the superhero faced with a crowd of almost all men, picks the only woman to beat the shit out of. Done right, this would actually be her kind of movie.

Yeah, I don't care for that scene either, but its part of being true to the comic book. To be fair, the woman started it. And boy howdy did the guy end it.
