Hi, Little Whiskey checking in. Don't post much in the Packer section. kinda a romper room member. If you have any questions on guns or nascar, let me know I can help you out.

I agree with some others. Admin you need to change your screen name. kinda boring. maybe call yourself, The Comish. and you ought to put in an avatar. oh ya and change the front page. the jamooo or whatever it says needs to go.

My threat level is always heliotrope or taupe.

I think written rules are a good idea. Of course people are going to push boundaries, but that is happening already, just see this thread or any other Favre thread.

I think the rules should be contain parameters that are easy to identify and quantify, so there is a minimum of debate about whether or not a post "crosses" the line. Then I agree with Harlan, someone/somebodies should review the posts in question, in context and determine if they warrant action.

Action could be step by step, clear as day about how long you are gone. 1st offense, 2nd, third, etc. AdminMan would be the appeals process. Or he could ask someone to review the case.

Then, some two years down the line, justice would be served.

This is not a business with a group of auditors functioning above it. It's a one man show running the gig. Easy to say what should be done when you are not that guy. This is really directed at no poster.

The idealists can always theorize how to make things better; reality is you are greatly risking something that has been working if you try to fix something that is not broken.

B, you really are passionate about this place. And I like the cut of your jib. Therefore, I withdraw my nomination for Partial (because Ziggy bet on him to get banned - never bet against Zig), and hereby nominate Bretsky to work with Skin and Harlan on the PackerRats employee handbook.

Your point is well taken. But we have had voluntary Mods before, it may be possible to do something with the same kind of numbers. And everyone could contribute to the rule writing. I don't pretend to have all the answers, this is the only message board I use and one of only two I read. So my experience in this area is limited to actual meatspace.

As for changing something that is not broken, I think the bannings and unbannings and couple of days of Favrepalooza 2009 show that the same kinds of problematic posts are still with us. What I struggle to understand is the constant need to challenge posters personally. Sticking to the argument at hand is far easier.

Agreed, but it is a business in the sense that the posters are customers and that it would cease to exist if they stopped "shopping" here.

Agree completely. I hope admin runs this place the same way that mad did.

The admin certainly has the option of functioning as the Great White Father, from whose mind and mood all rules shall slowly be revealed. The People will observe the Great White Father carefully, hoping to understand his ways. The taboos shall be learned as lessons when wayward tribesmen are disciplined. In time, the people will love and fear the Great White Father, the granter of the gift of chat.

greatly risking? Bretsky, you were very nervous about even committing to packerrats in the first place, that was greatly risking to you. I bet you don't buy green bananas at the grocery store, can't know for sure if they'll turn yellow.

How does publishing the rules translate into risky, whacky idealism?

Harlan,

This will be to your surprise, but I'm the guy who was invested 100% in technology stocks during the Internet Boom and Bust, and I felt the glory and then the pain as my stocks crashed. I hate conservative drug stocks; now I gamble in Bank Stocks. I play blackjack because slots are too dam boring and conservative at the casino.

I remain vested in high risk stocks and high risk/high reward mutual funds.

As for the CE, I wasn't comfortable with the idea of feeling like I might be stabbing somebody in the back by moving to another forum in the way it was all occuring. I wasn't part of the in group who led the charge because I didn't like the way it seemed to be going down.

Once the other forum was closed down to a perceived betrayal by the CE guy, I was right over here and my allegiance was here. That really had nothing whatsoever to do with my risk level. If you think that had anything to do with risk you misunderstood my actions.

We are polar opposites; we probably could not work in the same office for the same company and co-exist.

B, before you give up completely on the idea of rules, if you have time, try this exercise. Read a couple of the Favre threads, or any thread that has gone off the rails, or just gotten vicious or personal.

I think, except for the combatants, everyone can find the point at which the thread begins to disintegrate. Try to extrapolate what actual, physical, identifiable features are contained in every post from that point forward. I think the list is pretty short and almost universal.

Do you think it is the smart or dumb companies that have an employee handbook?

Good point Harlan!

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/special/enron/1533657.html

"A committee representing Enron's creditors and Enron have signed off on a plan to pay former workers $13,500 in severance. The plan needs U.S. Bankrupcty Judge Arthur Gonzalez's approval.

Creditors, however, could back out because 54 former workers, out of 4,200, won't agree to the deal and are seeking the full severance package, as outlined in the company handbook. Former executive John Sheriff, for instance, wants $1.6 million."

Good one SC! In a related story, the NFL has decided to dispense with their rule book. Said retiring rule committee chairman Mike Holmgren: "Nobody paid any fucking attention anyway. Did you see the shit Charles Woodson gets away with? That fucking bastard holds on every goddamn play." When it was suggested to Mr. Holmgren that, without rules, the game might descend into chaos, Holmgren responded: "Fuck you."

Brilliant!!!

See, I see you as one that want to restrict the admin.

Yes, yes, yes! But not because the admin is an asshole, but because the admin is a human being.

This is not a new problem. Its been debated and tested for centuries. Lets start with the Magna Carta in 12th century, says the King doesn't rule totally by his whims, there's also the rule of law. Doesn't mean the King isn't the King anymore, or that the King is a tyrant, but things work better if there is some balance and clarity.

The simple statement is 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely'

It's actually pretty easy. A lot of posters don't want to take the time to find supporting facts for their positions. It's much easier to call someone a name than try to deflect the truth that you have absolutely no proof of what you are saying.

Off topic is one problem. Disintegration is another. Let me demonstrate:

"There you go again, Little Whiskey and all his Disintegration Lovers prattling on and on about nothing and then when someone calls them on it they react like they have no idea what you are talking about.

Its clear you have no idea what makes a good thread, in fact its a miracle you can string 3 words together without falling onto your keyboard. I don't know what kind of idiot posts this tripe day after day, but when you get done collecting your welfare check then using the local library's computers (paid for by upstanding members of your community that agree with ME) to post your trash.

Meanwhile, Little Johnny Schoolchild needs to get his History report in so he can graduate from 4th grade but he CAN'T! Because you are hoarding the library computer time to post Disintegration crap on a Packers message board that you clearly have no regard for at all.

And that would be sad enough and you're ruining it for all the normal people on this board like texaspackerbacker. But no, you don't stop there. Little Johnny is going to fail 4th grade now and due to the failure of the public school system (failing since they had to deal with you and your ilk of non-achievers/disintegrators). That will lead him down a dark path of Cub Fandom and we know only Islamofascists become Cub fans in 5th grade.

So you are now directly responsible for the next terrorist attack on American soil. I hope you're happy."

 See the difference between off-topic and disintegration?

Well in all seriousness...best of luck. There are a few nut cases here but not too many trolls. Those can really drag down a forum. Just the odd Bears troll really.

I don't think either Ghandi or Hannibal would kiss TT's butt...Hannibal might bite, but that's a different issue.
