The "Around The League" video from the NFL Network linked from packers.com is interesting. They talk about Raji playing both NT and DE. Then, they had a tidbit about ARod chartering a plane and flying six of his teammates to the Kentucky Derby. They said he really takes care of his teammates--especially his wideouts and even some of the practice squad guys with gifts like this all of the time.

The guy is easy to root for, that's for sure. Most of us didn't really choose our team, it was handed down to us. I feel pretty lucky that the Aaron Rodgers led Packers are my team right now.

I'm actually thinking about a Rodgers jersey too (first since Reggie over a decade ago). I don't like wearing Packer gear all that much, but a Rodgers jersey would be a symbol of what I believe in as well as what I don't believe in. I think I could wear it proud. I'd wear it to support a passion for football, a belief in team and disgust toward selfishness.

I think the best thing is how he handled the whole Favre situation. Just took that shit in stride, never said anything bad, kept his cool the whole time.

That's my guy, that's our QB!

It's a pleasant departure to be honest.

They say you never know how good you had it until they're gone. They should also say you never know how good it can *really* be until their gone.

Argue records with me all day but I think we're about to really see this team as a contender over the next 2-4 years.

You are exactly right. This has a lot to do with his faith. By that I mean doing the right thing as much as possible not because people want you to do the right thing, but because ultimately it's the right thing to do. Kampman is in this same mold of character and he sure was a big influence on Rodgers. Glad to have these guys on our team.

I also think when BF did the "I don't have to teach him how to take my job" routine MM really took the young man under his wing and guided him. I would bet that the long talks they had in QB school spilled over to real life. I think we are seeing the wisdom of our head coach in our young QB.

Ultimate Building Blocks: NFC North
Posted by ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert

So you want to be an NFL general manager -- or at least play one on the Internet? Then join me for this ESPN Blog Network exclusive.

The assignment is to draft 10 NFC North players who would make up the nucleus of a Super Bowl contender for the next three years. I'll open up the discussion with my choices. Your job is to bash me -- er, make your own suggestions -- in the comments section below.

On with it:

1. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay. Every championship team needs a quarterback, and for me Rodgers is the most comfortable choice. His maturity and leadership are worth the sacrifice in arm strength relative to Chicago's Jay Cutler.

HarveyWallbangers

As teams start to wrap up minicamps and OTAs, let's look at 10 young offensive players who could hit it big in 2009...

3. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers: Because of the controversy surrounding Brett Favre's departure and the disappointment of a 6-10 season, Rodgers' 4,038-yard season is often overlooked. He struggled in the latter stages of games, and that should improve because of experience. Rodgers has one of the strongest arms in football. He threw 28 touchdown passes in 2008 and proved his toughness by playing the second half of the season despite a shoulder separation. Rodgers should be one of the NFC's top quarterbacks this year.

Rodgers has good arm strength. However, in the first one the writer was comparing his arm strength to Jay Cutler. He like doesn't have Cutler's arm strength--although I don't think they are as far apart as some think. Just remember all of those quotes from Jennings and Jones about how hard Rodgers throws.

Cutler's arm strength might be otherworldly. Think Elway, Cunningham, George. Favre had a tremendous fastball, but a step below the cannon these guys have/had.

Rodgers is closer to Favre than the others. He doesn't throw the overhand heat across the middle that Favre did, but not many QBs use that motion. Remember that some receivers last year were saying Rodgers was throwing harder than Favre did in camp in 2007? Some of that could be age and touch issues, but coming out of college, Rodgers was supposed to have the arm to make all the pro throws.

The only reason I ask is because in the game at Detroit last year I saw Rodgers throw a ball 60 yards from one hash to the other (probably 65 yards total), and you couldn't have ran the ball up to Jennings and handed it to him any cleaner than it fell to him. I didn't think they were very far apart either.

HarveyWallbangers
06-15-2009, 11:40 AM
There are two throws from last year that really show ARod's arm strength. The pass to Jennings at 0:47 shows his ability to throw the deep ball. He threw it from his own 29 to the Vikings 5. That's 66 yards, a little more when you consider he threw it from outside the right hash to the left hash.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d80aa8d33/WK-1-Aaron-Rodgers-highlights

Another play that stands out to me is this pass to Jones. The angle from behind Rodgers shows just what a good throw it is.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d80d54401/Aaron-Rodgers-Highlight-WK-15-vs-Jaguars-2008

We know he can throw hard down the middle, but those two throws show he can throw deep ball and he can throw in the windows deep down the sideline. I don't think there's a throw he can't make because of arm strength.

Fritz
06-15-2009, 12:49 PM
And he has the accuracy. That is crucial. Vince Young can throw it a mile, but where it goes he seems not to know.

That second throw was Packer 43 yard line to Jags 14. 43 yards in the air with a LOT of air in the throw. Looked like Jones was ready to cut the route of but then saw the trajectory and kept going. Great catch on the bobble and a great effort to get his left foot down again after the bobble.

I had poster this earlier, but I got to thinking who my 10 would be.

The assignment is to draft 10 NFC North players who would make up the nucleus of a Super Bowl contender for the next three years.

1. Adrian Peterson (ultimate game changer)
2. Aaron Rodgers (edged out Cutler, importance of position puts him near the top)
3. Jared Allen (pass rushers in their prime are hard to find)
4. Calvin Johnson (Dynamic, too bad he plays for Detroit)
5. Kevin Williams (two-way DL)
6. Greg Jennings (underrated)
7. Steve Hutchinson (a little old, but should be good for 3 more years)
8. Lance Briggs (best LB in the division)
9. Tommie Harris (provided he gets back to his old self)
10. Aaron Kampman (a little old, but should be good for 3 more years)
