Scientists just released data showing the air the athletes breathed at the Beijing Olympics last summer was 3 and 1/2 times more polluted than the air at any other Olympic site.

As you recall, Beijing Olympic officials tried to reduce the pollution effects for the Olympics by shutting down factories, pulling off many cars and trucks off the road, etc. Though pollution was reduced, the air was still very poor.

Several world class endurance runners declined to compete at the Olympics because of the foul air.

I wonder what the long term effects are for the Beijing residents who make the city their home.

It would have been interesting to compare it with the 84 LA Olympics, but they didn't go back that far. The 1968 Mexico City games might have been bad as well.

Interesting comparisons!
