RENO, Nev. (AP) - A woman is accusing Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger of raping her last summer in his penthouse hotel room at Lake Tahoe.

The woman worked at Harrah's hotel-casino at the time and says the attack happened when the Super Bowl-winning quarterback was in Tahoe playing in a celebrity golf tournament. She also alleges in the civil suit that Harrah's officials refused to investigate her complaint and went to great lengths to cover up the incident.

Roethlisberger's lawyer David Cornwell denies the claim and says the quarterback will be "fully exonerated."

"Ben has never sexually assaulted anyone ... The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct. If an investigation is commenced, Ben will cooperate fully and Ben will be fully exonerated," Cornwell said in a statement released early Tuesday.

The lawsuit filed in Reno on Friday seeks at least $390,000 in damages. It says she has been in and out of hospitals for treatment of depression since the episode.

It was not immediately clear if the woman went to law enforcement with her complaints.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said Tuesday the team is aware of the lawsuit, and "we are gathering information."

Why does it seem it's frequently a female employee of whatever facility a football player is at, that makes this kind of accusation?

Not saying Big Ben's guilty or innocent - just that this seems like deja-vu.

Because guys sexually assaulting other guys is mostly a prison thing?

With no police or other documentation of the event, I don't think there is much likely hood of this going anywhere.

Yea right. Not to downplay the seriousness, moreso disgusting act of rape but that will go nowhere if she didn't get a rape kit and do all the necessary follow-up.

I was reading the newspaper this AM as I always do and I couldn't help but feel grossed out by the extent of bad news published in the Montreal Gazette. The news is just horrible it seems to me of late.

The real question is: Did she keep the panties? Because we've already seen that if there's more than one man's sperm in them, she's just a whore, not a rape victim.

Ben may want to start looking for the jeweler responsible for this fine piece of, "Sorry I ass-raped that girl baby," bling. Maybe the non-anal rape ring would be a bit smaller?

The time frame and lack of criminal complaint - especially given her cover-up story, make me think he might have just had sex with her and now she's poor and lonely.

Here's the latest from SI on this story.
Oddly enough, ESPN has not had anything on this matter AT ALL on their NFL front page.

I like how Ben's lawyer says Ben's name three times in about ten seconds in that quote. Ben.

Convicted of what.....this is a civil trial, NOT criminal. The 50 have already said no charges are being brought up against him. This is a simple cry for money.

How can Harrah's keep her employed there?

She's got her rights, but she is suing guests of the place.

Isn't that a conflict of interests?

Hey, if a guy claimed Ben Roethlisberger raped him, I wonder if the head of Harrah's security would tell the guy that "lots of guys would consider themselves lucky to be with Ben"?
