How can they impose fines on legal things that players do in their off time? That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen and I'm sure the NFL knows it. Some players have been tweeting for quite awhile as well.

Also saw on ESPN's crawler that MM/Packers will fine players $1,700 for posting on Twitter during team activities.

That's cool. My employer has a no-internet usage policy on the job. It's only fair, not going to be the end of the world anyway if we have to wait another a hour till they finish w/practice to hear from them.

I've never used it, but after reading your WP article, it seems like it could be a great tool to give fans an inside look at the game, if used properly. I personally like little snippets like breaking in new cleats.

conflict of interests, or confidentiality agreement. If i tweeted some of my company's secrets or bad mouthed my employer, you can be sure there would be repercussions. even if it was on my own time

I'm going to start taking time out during my classes while my students are writing to do a little twittering or tweeting or whatever it's called. People out there probably want to know whether I had clamato juice or orange juice for breakfast this morning.

I like the possibilities. Somebody gets taken out of the game, and he twitters that the "*(&_ET)(&(&^%$&(())F'IN coach is an a-hole!" or something. Should be good for the game.

I don't think they're going to be tweeting the playbook in 160 character messages...I don't see how they'll ever prove conflict of interest. I can see the Packers fining for tweeting during team activities, but on their time it's none of the employer's business. I'd like to think that what I do at home is none of my employer's business as well. As long as I'm not feeding my competitor it's not anyone else's concern what I tweet.

The NFL wasn't talking about players tweeting in their everyday life. The were banning it during games.

And that play book is going to have to be edited down into 140 characters or less.

Future Brain Surgeon Chris Cooley just took a picture of his gameplan quiz and posted it on his website (or Flickr or somesuch) last year. It might have caused quite a stir if he hadn't taken the picture in the nude with the quiz on his lap/desk. Little Cooley caused the stir.
