View Full Version : Predict The Packers Record

So I know many people find these useless, but I think they are kinda fun, and get me excited for the season.

We all pick which games we're going to win and lose, and then give a final record. The person with the correct final record wins. Should there be a tie, whoever picks the most games correctly wins (both wins AND losses).

Have at it! Here is mine

Schedule:
Week 1: Green Bay Packers VS Chicago Bears
Week 2: Green Bay Packers VS Cincinnati Bengals
Week 3: Green Bay Packers AT St. Louis Rams
Week 4: Green Bay Packers AT Minnesota Vikings
Week 5: Open Date
Week 6: Green Bay Packers VS Detroit Lions
Week 7: Green Bay Packers AT Cleveland Browns
Week 8: Green Bay Packers VS Minnesota Vikings
Week 9: Green Bay Packers AT Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Week 10: Green Bay Packers VS Dallas Cowboys
Week 11: Green Bay Packers VS San Francisco 49ers
Week 12: Green Bay Packers AT Detroit Lions
Week 13: Green Bay Packers VS Baltimore Ravens
Week 14: Green Bay Packers AT Chicago Bears
Week 15: Green Bay Packers AT Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 16: Green Bay Packers VS Seattle Seahawks
Week 17: Green Bay Packers AT Arizona Cardinals

The red games are ones that could go either way, but I'll stick with 14-2. I think we are that good. I will have a one line explanation later, i have to go now.

Too soon to tell, but the team looks good. Problem is the division looks much tougher outside of the two for sure wins against Detroit, and they have a rough schedule with Pitt and Baltimore. Both of those will be losses imo.

Even with a Pessimist - Optimist slant (in contrast to my usual Optimist-Realist - will I be forced to relinquish my card?), the schedule is very favorable and looks like 11-5 to me. NFC North champs looks very attainable, anything less than a wild card berth will be disappointing.

10-6 - New defense - I suspect some serious over pursuit issues against the run outside the tackles and also some coverage issues with the LB's - All growing pain related. McCarthy has to stop being predictable with his offensive play calling or he will blow a couple of games as he has done each season he has been with us.

The Vikings? I expect that if Favre all of a sudden gets conservative and does a John Elway and let the running game carry him, that will be a hard train to stop. He is smart enough to do that, but will his competitiveness get the better of him? Probably. They already have an excellent run stopping defense and not many teams passing games are going to fool them when they can pin their ears back and rush the passer all game. Their record is hard to predict, I think a lot of that rests on Favre as he is the only piece new to the team (for the most part) and Childress is an idiot so he can be relied upon to blow a game or two himself. If Favre plays within the confines of the running game, I say 12-4, if Favre remains erratic in his drive to make a play, 10-6.

The Bears I think are even harder to predict. They finally have a QB but Cutler isn't making any friends in Chicago. That isn't leadership and is a recipe for disaster. Their defense will still be formidable but no better than Minnesota's. I think the Packers will take both games from them. 9-7 for them is within reach, but that all falls on Cutler and his mouth.

I Expect the Lions to be marginally improved, meaning if they win 1 game they are already 100% better than last year. Look for them to upset a few teams, 5-11.

I looked carefully at this and we'll do very well this season. So will the Vikings and the Bears. The Black and Blue division will return. I believe we'll either win or come second in the NFCN. Our record will be no worse than 10-6.

I say Pack 11-5 with an easy schedule...Just too much potent firepower on O and skills on D (barring injuries)...

That goes out the window if ARod gets hurt week 1 for the season....then 1-15.

The Packs offense is the best in the division but the problem on D is two of their preseason stars, Jenkins and Jolly, have historically had a tough time staying on the field. If they stay healthy like 2007, this team should be in the postseason.

12-4, this team has talent at every single position. Of course, players at key positions are injury prone. If they stay healthy, then they will be a playoff team. I still think they should look to add another DE to the fray and ditch one of the corners or FBs.

He's not even in the top 3, thanks to Kevin Williams and Jared Allen. Top 5? Maybe. But Pat Williams and Steve Hutchinson are both great players that are a really important part of that team, as are E.J. Henderson and Antoine Winfield. Favre makes it somewhere in the "top 10 best Vikings" though.

I second that PB; something feels a lil amiss with all the hype BEGINNING to surround the pack after such a paltry showing last yr. I guess thats what happens when u lose alot of close games, shore up your biggest weak spot (D w/stud capers), and look SO crisp in the preseason.

I forget who said it but it was said that after last year's nonsense the pack has proverbial chip on shoulder and that its common for this to work in reverse for teams like minny, et. al who often rest on their accomplishments/hype after fair showing the previous year; this is mostly evident with inconsistent programs like bears and raiders. Not so evident with great orgs like Pats and Steelers...makes sense

At this point, I think it's impossible to say how good Favre is. The general consensus seems to be that he's pretty beat up, rusty, and immobile. But who knows? A lot of that is conjecture based on the reports of his surgeries and a few plays with a new team after being in camp for a few days. I would guess - unless Favre is injured right now, or gets injured - there will be games where he'll play outstanding and others where he'll look like an old QB. As long as he's controlled and doesn't heave a bunch of moon balls, Minnesota will be tough to beat. Damn.

LOL! Favre isn't even the best player on his TEAM (Adrian Peterson is). Good grief.

To be fair, AP is the best player on basically every team in the league.

That's what makes it all the more ridiculous that he stated Favre was the best player on the Vikes.

15-1

Its the only winning record that nobody said. I'll also add that the game they lose will be on Thanksgiving. After that embarrassment they'll steam roll the rest of their schedule and the next non-blowout will be the NFC championship. By week 10 Vikings fans will be watching Colt McCoy highlights. AP will come back to Earth before being sidelined and Chester Taylor will propel me to a fantasy championship. I'll put my winnings on a 55 bet superbowl futures parlay predicting every minutiae of the game (which is between the Pats and Packers btw). After I win my last bet because Al Harris adds Tom Brady's spine to his spine pile, I purchase the Minnesota Vikings, move them to LA and rename them the "LA Glitter Queens." I also have constructed a 200 foot animatronic billboard of Aaron Rodgers giving a "suck-it" which will be visible for those Eastbound on I-94 somewhere around Menomonie, WI.

To me, this is one of the most fascinating questions of the NFL year. Can Favre stay under control and be the game manager that he says he will be? He certainly appears, in the interviews I've seen and read, to be rather subdued - he's lost that jaunty joy it seems to me. So if he stays all quiet and subdued, does that mean he'll morph into Joe Game Manager? Will he stay that way all season? Will he get frustrated at some point with the game plans and chomp at the bit? Will he try to go back and forth between these two modes as the game conditions deem necessary? If so, can he do that?

It'l be fascinating.

Why are preseason predictions rated higher than looking at réal games? I got carried away too, like so many others, that's because I'm mostly a fan in off season and a critic during season - the W-L's rarely lies.

Packers OL is overrated by those responsible for rating them: coaches, scouts & GM. The average fan can see the piss poor talent at OL. Even our DL is overrated. Our trenches aren't good'n'deep enough. Packer reality sucks. A trade should happen (I'd give it 10% and whatever team would have to be paid handsomely).

TT has really tried helping the DL (Harrell & Raji) but no effect so far. The OL help has been terrible.

Even Steve Young couldn't get the Pack a win vs Bengals. Old BF would have been killed; the young BF, well, he was a rare gunslinger so who knows?

How will McCarthy & TT fix the OL & DL? PRACTICE...PRACTICE? Or more preseason games to spike the average fan???

This season anything less than a NFC north title and I am greatly disappointed.

I'm surprised I actually picked us to lose to the piss poor Bucs. Something about the Packers sucking at Tampa Bay all the time I guess.

Anyway, everyone still feel good about their picks. I still think this team has the potential to go 12-4 like I predicted. We "should" win at Detroit. Baltimore and Pittsburgh don't look unbeatable like a lot of people think. Hell Pitt just lost to KC yesterday. Cutler is shit, as is Seattle, and Arizona has sucked ass at home this year.

Didn't predict this year (and glad I didn't...)

It was the tale of two halves...

For all of you who think I somehow am not a Packers fan because I don't drink the Thomspon koolaid, I think my 10-6 prediction was pretty close. The defense really became a force to be reckoned with in the second half of the season so they gelled sooner than later which is always good. The offensive line has actually started to play the game after Tauscher returned (smartest Thompson/McCarthy offensive line move - EVER). Rodgers played well most of the season but the three games before Arizona I think he played just "ok", not bad, not great. Against Arizona he looked like a Pro Bowl QB and his play deserves that nod.

The only concern I have is all of the cockiness I heard yesterday after thumping Arizona. The fans I was around were happy to turn around and go back to Arizona and think it will be another blow out.

I have no doubts that the Packers are the hottest team in the NFL next to the Chargers right now. They are heating up at the right time and everything seems to be clicking. If we overlook Arizona, it will be a long off season and many fans are doing just that. Outside of being over confident going into this game and that biting us in the ass, the only other team that I believe stands in our way is Minnesota. Say what you want about beating a team three times in one year. Historically the losing team has lost 12 out of the 19 times it has happened. We would be playing Minnesota in the dome, where they play the best football on all sides of the ball. The only thing we would have going for us is that Favre has historically choked in big games the past 9 seasons. I like our odds better not having the playoffs run through Minnesota no matter how much fun it may be to some, smart money says we are better off going through New Orleans, Dallas, or Philly.

HarveyWallbangers

Well, I think the thing we have going for us is that our OL and defense are playing much better than earlier in the season. The OL has solidified with Wells and Tauscher, and the team has now adapted to the 3-4 scheme. I think we'd give them a real battle and there would be a lot of pressure on them. They are a good team, but so are we.

However, I'll take it one game at a time. Packers at Cardinals. It will be a tough game.
