This guy deserves a thread. Hell...he IS the defense. He is all over the field and all around the ball when it's in play. Woodson is playing the best ball of his career. When the season starts...if Woodson stays healthy...he should be in the running for MVP.

What DB is better in the NFL right now? Really! Not only is a great cover CB in man or zone, but he plays the run and rushes the passer well. And he creates turnovers like Doyle creates taxes!

If memory serves me right, Snake was all over putting over Woodson for Defensive MVP halfway through 2008. While he didn't tail off, he really needed insane stats to win the D MVP at CB by the end of the season.

This new blitzing scheme from anyone-anytime is tailor-made for CWood. That guy is a gamer (reminds me of Rod Woodson in his prime) right now. His play once again tonite blitzing/stripping the ball/playing off his man (his instincts are just incredible...play to his strengths. Al will be ok, as both him and Wood are great shutdown CB's, but playing off man, will only help Wood make even MORE plays IMO. What a phenomenal football player....

What impressed me about Woodson, or Woodsen as several posters used to call him, is that when he got held up at the line, he would still push his blocker and dive into the play, not to make the tackle but to force the RB coming off the corner to go a yard or two deeper to get the edge. The kind of thing our LBs seem unable or unwilling to do that slow a play down.

Being one of the PackerRats "Old Farts" who watched the Packers during the glory years of the 60's, I would have to agree with Harlan that Woodson is the best DB of the Packers since the 60's.

The cornerbacks during the Lombardi years were Herb Adderley and Bob Jeter. IMO, they were the best pair of cornerbacks to play together on any pro team I have ever seen.

Adderley is in a class by himself. He is the best cornerback ever to play for the Packers.

I do, however, regard Charles Woodson so highly that I think his outstanding cornerback skills are on an equal plane as Bob Jeter's. Jeter was an excellent cover guy, he was a sure tackler, and had a great overall feel for the game. Woodson's skills match his, IMO.

Being one of the old flatulates myself, I agree. However, I can't not mention Willie Buchanon if we are mentioning great Packer CBs since the 1060s. He began phenomenally well, named Defensive Rookie of the Year. After a couple seasons, teams simply avoided him. Regular All-Pro and Pro Bowl candidate or member. He suffered two broken legs, and seemed to lose a little after each one.

Another of the really good players from the 1970s who is often overlooked because the teams he played for were so bad (not unlike Woodson with Oakland, who also had a broken leg) I think I would take Buchanon ahead of Jeter, simply because he was so good in spite of little talent around him.

Here's an article just posted on Woodson. He said he's never been more excited about a season and believes the Pack can win it all.

From http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/ic/blogs/insider/index.shtml
Charles Woodson said he’s never been more excited entering a season, and the sky is the limit for the 2009 Packers.

"We’ve got a chance at winning the whole thing, I believe," said Woodson after the Packers’ jog-through practice Sunday. "Still got a long way to go. We’re not there yet, but we have a chance."

When asked if other players share his sentiments, Woodson said: "I don’t know, it doesn't matter. That's my answer and I'll ride with it."

So why is Woodson so enthusiastic? It starts with the new 3-4 scheme. The way Woodson sees it, bringing in defensive coordinator Dom Capers and a new staff was like adding an impact free agent.

"I think bringing him in, bringing the scheme, the 3-4, and then those coaches, is definitely the biggest acquisition this year," said Woodson, who forced three fumbles against Arizona in the Packers’ preseason game Friday night.

The difference between last year and this year is like night and day.

"You guys watched our defense last year, it was basically, there was no creativity to it," said Woodson. "This defense, there's so many different packages, so many different ways you can attack an offense. You can keep an offense on their heels, as long as everybody knows what they're doing, their assignments. It’s tough for teams to pick that up. There’s a lot to this defense. I think we’ve handled the transition pretty well."

If it were up to Woodson, the season would start right now.

"With Dom coming in, this new scheme, I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited, or more ready to get the season underway than this year," he said.

Interesting that Chuck has his own label. I know nothing about wines, but I did notice that near Niagra, a bunch of athletes - like Gretzky, some baseball guy, etc, have purchased their own wineries. I guess that area of Canada is big on so-called 'ice' wines. Very sweet I was told and better than the German ise wines. I had a Wayne Gretzky Merlot. Nothing special. What's that all aboot? I didn't even know you could grow grapes fast enough up there to make wine, eh.

Niagara has it's own AVA...that area is known as the Niagara Escarpment. The water obviously mitigates the cold and allows the vines to survive the winter.

German: That is just bullshit. There are good ice wines, but to say they are better....germanany has plenty of world class "eiswein," and beerenauslese and TBA.

Growing: Why not? Do you think the summer is shorter than washington...long island...or the okanagan valley in canada.

Canada has a long history of wine production, though they were also using non vinifera grapes...that has changed now.

Thank you PB for speaking the truth. I appreciate your honesty in this matter.

Posters, ask yourself if PB has an agenda. Ask yourself why he would write this.

Hey Ty (and associates)! You think you could try to not fuck up every other thread you feel like fucking up?

Thanks!!

Your friends,

PackerRats

Excuse me? Go back and read the thread. It is retail on my ass for no reason. go and look at the rest of the forum...same thing.

I'm going to say this one more time. Stop.

I've read the exchanges over the past few days, and I want it to cease. I've talked with retailguy, but really, tyrone, you've been all over this forum "correcting people" for the past week. What you did in the game thread was ridiculous. It is indefensible.

You might find if you stop that, the rest of the "drama" that seems to follow you by multiple people will cease.

I posted this before you said stop. There was no intention of countering your suggestion.

I have not been on the board correcting people.

Game thread: The person i was involved with were discussing..and it was light hearted. Look at the part about being obstinate...and the joke that folllowed.

You then had Rand and RG come in long after the subject was over.

I posted at 5:29, you posted at 6:53, and it's pretty clear that you ignored my post and didn't post before I asked you to stop.

Are you correcting me, that you aren't correcting people? Maybe you should think about that? Your corrections are pretty clear and pretty blatent lately. Even worse than before your vacation.

My read of the game thread was not the same as yours. I don't think the other poster received your criticism in the same light hearted manner you say you meant it in.

Sorry. What i meant was that i didn't see your post. I was on page three reading and just responded. When i saw your post i stopped.

Correcting: Please give an example.

Read: Read the discussion. I say obstinate...then he says something about norwegian. Then i ask about weather...he replies. We were long past the discussion. The subject was over..and we had moved on to talking about the weather and making self deprecating jokes.

Why would I do this? So you can argue with me? So you can tell me what you really meant, or how I interpreted it wrong? I know how to read, and I'm generally pretty good at putting things into context. I'm really not interested in debating that.

Just move on and figure out how to express your opinion without telling someone that they are wrong or stupid. (And you don't have to use those specific words to do that)

So, that i would have an example to refer to. Simple as that.

All i know is that for the most part my posts were fine..until you had two posters repeatedly attack me...rand and rg. Perhaps that got me riled up.

When you have RG responding to a post with a "bullshit" image or a baby image...or you have him insulting me pointlessly like he did in the romperroom when talking to partial...and i wasn't even part of the discussion...i'm sorry, but that is going to wear on me. I came back and didn't respond to a single post of his. Go look.

Take today...i simly posted that is was mike mcdonald to pb..not noticing that gbgary had said the same thing...this is a common occurence, not something unusual...and boom, there is RG not talking about the "cut" list but about my post. It wasn't insulting to PB...he and i have had many pleasant posts and never gotten into it..and pms...yet, rg felt the need to get on my ass.

If you look, i'd bet you would find that 90% of my "bad" posts are confined to rand and RG. Past is the past, and i came back and didnt' get into it with Partial, sheep, etc. Even someone like Woodbuck who has annoyed me..i was pretty dang "nice" in our discussion regarding our former punter..and the proof was our conversation..which ended with "point taken" by him.

Brando would be another past "combatant"..yet, you have seen nothing.

I would ask that you leave the past in the past and look with fresh eyes.

I know this is off topic - but Roark - this image is priceless.

You are a natural douche.

Ahhh, there's the problem, quit with the makeshift stuff, and all will be well in Packerrat land.
