View Full Version : Trash to Treasure: Other Teams Cuts

Press Gazette is speculating that given Thompson's past record and a good waiver claim priority (9th position), there will be cut down day trades and waiver pickup again this year.

What is he looking for? Punter perhaps, a defensive back, possibly a TE? A vet QB if Flynn is more doubtful than questionable? A backup tackle or kick/punt returner?

Here is who has been made available so far. Feel free to keep the list up to date. I am only going to track the positions mentioned above. I somehow doubt we are going to sign a WR.

My prediction (I'm going way out on a limb here) is that if TT signs someone off another team's waiver wire, it will be someone nobody here has ever heard of.

Tomorrow nite at 6 pm, there will be slightly over 700 NFL players out of work.

I noticed that many teams are doing their cuts in "layers". Teams are announcing the release of 5-8 guys right away and waiting until Saturday to release the rest of the cuts. As someone pointed out, teams seem to do this to establish the guys they want to move to the PS.

Does announcing them early give them a day advantage on the waiver process or is this just a signal to player/agent?

Because if they clear waivers before Saturday evening, that would be a huge advantage since few teams would have roster spots to offer them

Titans (updated): returner Mark Jones, cornerback DeMarcus Faggins, safeties Tuff Harris and Nick Schommer, offensive linemen Ryan Durand, Jason Murphy, Cory Lekkerkerker, and Fernando Velasco, tight end Matthew Mulligan, cornerback Tanard Davis, punter A.J. Trapasso. The Titans indicated they were interesting in bringing Velasco and Morris back to their practice squad

Packers have told two of their own that they are not coming back. No surprises:
The agent for rookie defensive lineman Dean Muhtadi said his client was told he would be let go tomorrow. His college teammate from Maryland, tackle Dean Randolph, also was told he would be released.

Is Leonard Pope worth a call?

No. He is terrible. Trust me as i live in the phx.

He just can't catch the ball, there was a play in camp...pope makes a good move, cuts to the corner of the endzone, ball is up...he has the tremendous height advantage...everything you would expect...boom, drops the ball.

Ty says all this as someone who was a huge pope backer and watched him a ton at GA. Pope is ty's odel thurman.

First of all, I'm on the Nancy Reagan bandwagon vis a vis swapping punters again at the beginning of a season: just say no.

Kapinos seems to have settled in pretty well, and is anyone out there going to be seasoned enough to simply step in and be consistently above avereage? Maybe Kaps is the guy. Maybe Ted finally found a punter. And Kaps hasn't effed up yet, so let's wait for awhile before switching 'em up again.

I'm guessing that releasing a few guys early is done in the hopes that other teams will make some claims on those guys, thus decreasing the number of open roster spots so when you cut the guys you really like later, there might be a better chance they get through waivers?

However, couldn't teams just sign guys from the first waive, then waive them if someone else comes up later?

Kaps will have to pray their are no gale force wind games in Chicago.

Which punter/kicker deals well with gale force winds anywhere? I only played rugby, but even a lateral pass of about 2 feet is tough in gale force winds.

been watching Hard Knocks....a really cool documentary about the Bengals training camp and what goes through the head of of the the players.

Chris Pressley, the former Badgers fullback, is vying for the final roster spot as their backup fullback and has been often featured

I really hope he makes the team

I really think the only O lineman the Packers would grab is someone who could play LT better than Colledge. This may be a generous overestimation of the quality of cutdowns in the NFL, but if you spot a guard when the source lists offensive lineman, just let me know. I know how all of you keep close tabs on interior line play in preseason! :P

This is a sad story. The guy had a year of college eligibility left and declared early for the NFL draft.

Draft days 1 and 2 came and went without Hill being drafted.

He signs on as a free agent and does not make the final cut. He could have stayed on with the Badgers and enjoyed another year of college ball and possibly earned a degree. Now all that is out the window.
