In the NFL draft of 2008, linebacker David Vobora, who played for Idaho, was dubbed "Mr. Irrelevant" as he was the last player selected in the draft. Few of the "Mr. Irrelevant's" make it in the NFL.
Not only did he make last year's team, last week he started for the St. Louis Rams.
Playing high school ball in Eugene, OR, Vobora had dreamed of playing for the Oregon Ducks where his father, Andy Vobora, played linebacker from 1978 to 1981.
But the Ducks were lukewarm in offering a scholarship to a 195 pound linebacker. They agreed to allow him to walk on but he wanted a scholarship.
Idaho was the only Division I school to offer him a full scholarship. In four years, Vobora put on 44 lbs of muscle and worked on his speed.
By pro day, he was 239 lbs. and ran a 4.59 40 yard dash. The Rams made him the last player chosen in the 2008 draft and he became "Mr. Irrelevant."
Last week he became the first "Mr. Irrelevant" to start an NFL game since 1994.
