Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

Down the street the dogs are barkin'
And the day is a-gettin' dark.
As the night comes in a-fallin',
The dogs 'll lose their bark.
And the silent night will shatter
From the sounds inside my mind,
For I'm one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.

From the crossroads of my doorstep,
My eyes they start to fade,
As I turn my head back to the room
Where my love and I have laid.
And I gaze back to the street,
The sidewalk and the sign,
And I'm one too many mornings
An' a thousand miles behind.

It's a restless hungry feeling
That don't mean no one no good,
When ev'rything I'm a-sayin'
You can say it just as good.
You're right from your side,
I'm right from mine.
We're both just one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.

And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

And she's buying the stairway to heaven.

So you think that it's over
That your loves fianlly reached the end
Any time you call night or day
I'll be right there for you
If you need a friend

It's gonna take a lil time
Time will surely mend your broken heart
Don't you even worry pretty darlin
I know you'll find love at home

Love is all around you
Love is knockin outside your door
Waiting for you
Is a love maid just for two
Keep an open heart and you'll find love again... I know

"God Of Wine" by Third Eye Blind

Every thought that I repent
There's another chip you haven't spent
And you're cashing them all in
Where do we begin to get clean again
Can we get clean again
I walk home alone with you
And the mood you're born into
Sometimes you let me in
And I take it on the chin
I can't get clean again
I want to know can we get clean again
The God of Wine comes crashing through
The headlights of a car that took you farther
Than you thought you'd ever want to go
We can't get back again
We can't get back again
She takes a drink and then she waits
The alcohol it permeates
And soon the cells give way, and cancels out the day
I can't keep it all together
I know I know I know...
I can't keep it all together
And the siren's song that is your madness
Holds a truth I can't erase
All alone on your face
Every glamorous sunrise
Throws the planets out of line
A star sign out of whack, a fraudulent zodiac
And the God of Wine is crouched down in my room
You let me down, I said it, now I'm going down
And you're not even around
And I said no no no...
I can't keep it all together
I know I know I know...
I can't keep it all together
And there's a memory of a window
Looking through I see you
Searching for something I could never give you
And there's someone who understands
You more than I do
A sadness I can't erase
All alone on your face

"Badlands" by Bruce Springsteen

Lights out tonight,
Trouble in the heartland,
Got a head on collision,
Smashin' in my guts, man,
I'm caught in a cross fire,
That I don't understand,
I don't give a damn,
for the same old played out scenes,
I don't give a damn,
for just the in betweens,
Honey, I want the heart, I want the soul,
I want control right now
Talk about a dream,
try to make it real
You wake up in the night,
with a fear so real,
Spend your life waiting,
for a moment that just don't come,
Well, don't waste your time waiting,

Badlands, you gotta live it everyday,
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay,
We'll keep pushin' till it's understood,
and these badlands start treating us good.

Workin' in the fields
till you get your back burned,
Workin' 'neath the wheel
till you get your facts learned,
Baby, I got my facts
learned real good right now,
Poor man wanna be rich,
rich man wanna be king,
And a king ain't satisfied,
till he rules everything,
I wanna go out tonight,
I wanna find out what I got

I believe in the love that you gave me,
I believe in the hope that can save me,
I believe in the faith
and I pray, that someday it may raise me,
Above these badlands

Badlands, you gotta live it everyday,
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay,
We'll keep pushin' till it's understood,
and these badlands start treating us good.

For the ones who had a notion,
A notion deep inside,
That it ain't no sin to be glad you're alive
I wanna find one face that ain't looking through me
I wanna find one place,
I wanna spit in the face of these badlands

Badlands, you gotta live it everyday,
Let the broken hearts stand
As the price you've gotta pay,
We'll keep pushin' till it's understood,
and these badlands start treating us good

"Sam Stone" by John Prine

Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Pur ple Heart and a monkey on his back.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And Sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost its fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the G, I. Bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill

Yeah, now that you mention it, I can hear it.

And I don't think a requirement is to post the whole song. If you just want to post a memorable piece of the song rattling around in your head, so be it. If you want to post the whole thing, so be it.

Either way, no worries.

Whiskey, gin and brandy
With a glass I'm pretty handy
I'm trying to walk a straight line
On sour mash and cheap wine
So join me for a drink boys
We're gonna make some real noise

So dont worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check
We'll get hell to pay

Have a drink on me
On me

Dizzy, drunk and fightin
On tequila white lightnin
My glass is getting shorter
On whisky, ice and water
So come on and have a good time
And get blinded jout of your mind

So don't worry about tomorrow
Take it today
Forget about the check
we'll get hell to pay

Have a drink on me
Yeah
Have a drink on me

Gonna roll around
Gonna hit the ground
Take another swing
Have another drink
Gonna drink it dry
Gonna get me high
Come on all the boys
Make some noise

Have a drink ooooon me!

In some of my songs i have casually mentioned
The fact that i like to drink beer
This little song is more to the point
Roll out the barrel and lend me your ears

(Chorus:)
I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, vodka puts my mouth in gear
This little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i like beer
(he likes beer)

My wife often frowns when we're out on the town
And i'm wearing a suit and a tie
She's sipping vermouth and she thinks i'm uncouth
When i yell as the waiter goes by

(Chorus)

Last night i dreamed that i passed from the scene
And i went to a place so sublime
Aw, the water was clear and tasted like beer
Then they turned it all into wine

I like beer. it makes me a jolly good fellow
I like beer. it helps me unwind and sometimes it makes me feel mellow (makes him feel mellow)
Whiskey's too rough, champagne costs too much, and vodka puts my mouth in gear
Aw, this little refrain should help me explain as a matter of fact i love beer
(yes, he likes beer)

Beer just makes her turn up her nose
And, she can't stand the thought of sippin' champagne

Just ain't enough good burn in taquilla
She needs somethin' with a little more edge and a little more pain

Revolution, by the Beatles, Written by Lennon, McCartney

You say you want a revolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know you can count me out

Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright

You say you got a real solution
Well you know
We don't love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well you know
We're doing what we can
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell you is brother you have to wait

Don't you know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright, al...

You say you'll change the constitution
Well you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well you know
You better free your mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow

Don't you know know it's gonna be alright
Alright, alright

Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright
Alright, alright

---
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I had to put her
Six feet under
And I can still hear her complain

I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I knew I miss her
So I had to keep her
She's buried right in my back yard

I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
She bitched so much
She drove me nuts
And now I'm happier this way

I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I used to love her, but I had to kill her
I had to put her
Six feet under
And I can still hear her complain

Hurt, Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of thorns
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
I am still right here

what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt

I will let you down
I will make you hurt

if I could start again
a million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

Mercy Seat, Performed by Johnny Cash

It all began when they took me from my home
And put me on Death Row,
A crime for which I am totally innocent, you know.

I began to warm and chill
To objects and their fields,
A ragged cup, a twisted mop
The face of Jesus in my soup
Those sinister dinner deals
The meal trolley's wicked wheels
A hooked bone rising from my food
And all things either good or ungood.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

I hear stories from the chamber
Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
He died upon the cross
Might I say it seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told

My kill hand's tatooed E.V.I.L.
Across it's brother's fist
That filthy five!
They did nothing to challenge or resist.

In Heaven His throne is made of gold
The ark of his Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.
It's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away.

Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries
To enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And anyway I never lied.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this weighing of the truth.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is burning
And I think my head is glowing
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway there was no proof
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is glowing
And I think my head is smoking
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all these looks of disbelief.
A life for a life and a truth for a truth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is smoking
And I think my head is melting
And in a way that's helping
To be done with all this twisting of the truth.
An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
But I'm afraid I told a lie.

aaahhhh the man in black. had great songs like those but was also humorous. with songs like
---
boy named sue, Johnny Cash

My daddy left home when I was three
And he didn't leave much to ma and me
Just this old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
Now, I don't blame him cause he run and hid
But the meanest thing that he ever did
Was before he left, he went and named me "Sue."

Well, he must o' thought that is quite a joke
And it got a lot of laughs from a' lots of folk,
It seems I had to fight my whole life through.
Some gal would giggle and I'd get red
And some guy'd laugh and I'd bust his head,
I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue."

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean,
My fist got hard and my wits got keen,
I'd roam from town to town to hide my shame.
But I made a vow to the moon and stars
That I'd search the honky-tonks and bars
And kill that man who gave me that awful name.

Well, it was Gatlinburg in mid-July
And I just hit town and my throat was dry,
I thought I'd stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
There at a table, dealing stud,
Sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me "Sue."

Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.
He was big and bent and gray and old,
And I looked at him and my blood ran cold
And I said: "My name is 'Sue!' How do you do!
Now your gonna die!!"

Well, I hit him hard right between the eyes
And he went down, but to my surprise,
He come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear.
But I busted a chair right across his teeth
And we crashed through the wall and into the street
Kicking and a' gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.

I tell ya, I've fought tougher men
But I really can't remember when,
He kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile.
I heard him laugh and then I heard him cuss,
He went for his gun and I pulled mine first,
He stood there lookin' at me and I saw him smile.

And he said: "Son, this world is rough
And if a man's gonna make it, he's gotta be tough
And I knew I wouldn't be there to help ya along.
So I give ya that name and I said goodbye
I knew you'd have to get tough or die
And it's the name that helped to make you strong."

He said: "Now you just fought one hell of a fight
And I know you hate me, and you got the right
To kill me now, and I wouldn't blame you if you do.
But ya ought to thank me, before I die,
For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye
Cause I'm the son-of-a-bitch that named you "Sue.'"

I got all choked up and I threw down my gun
And I called him my pa, and he called me his son,
And I came away with a different point of view.
And I think about him, now and then,
Every time I try and every time I win,
And if I ever have a son, I think I'm gonna name him
Bill or George! Anything but Sue! I still hate that name

I thought it was great! Joaquin and Reese did amazing jobs as Johnny and June. I'm not from that era either, so I don't know how authentic it is, but it was a great movie. I was struck by the scene where Johnny and June were playing at a school auditorium with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and someone else with a big name, I can't remember right now. Talk about a show! I don't think could ever get that kind of show in a school auditorium these days....

From one of my favorite non coldplay songs, Bittersweet Symphony, the Verve (i think Rolling Stones are also credited for writing the song):

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah,

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

Well I never pray
But tonight I'm on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now

No change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet
Try to find some money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the things meet yeah

You know I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change
But I'm here in my mold
I am here in my mold
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mold
No, no, no, no, no

I can't change my mold
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Have you ever been down?
Have you've ever been down?

Well Frank settled down in the Valley
and hung his wild years
on a nail that he drove through
his wife's forehead
he sold used office furniture
out there on San Fernando Road
and assumed a $30,000 loan
at 15 1/4 % and put down payment
on a little two bedroom place
his wife was a spent piece of used jet trash
made good bloody marys
kept her mouth shut most of the time
had a little Chihuahua named Carlos
that had some kind of skin disease
and was totally blind. They had a
thoroughly modern kitchen
self-cleaning oven (the whole bit)
Frank drove a little sedan
they were so happy

One night Frank was on his way home
from work, stopped at the liquor store,
picked up a couple Mickey's Big Mouths
drank 'em in the car on his way
to the Shell station, he got a gallon of
gas in a can, drove home, doused
everything in the house, torched it,
parked across the street, laughing,
watching it burn, all Halloween
orange and chimney red then
Frank put on a top forty station
got on the Hollywood Freeway
headed north

MARY LOU--Bruce Springsteen

You're scrapbook's filled with pictures of all your leading men
Well baby don't put my picture in there with them
Don't make us some little girl's dream that can never come true
Oh baby don't do it to me I won't do it to you
Mary Lou, I'm not like all those other guys
Mary Lou, I won't fill your pretty head with their pretty lies
Mary Lou, and dreams that never, never, never ever will come true
Mary Lou, that'd only serve to hurt and make you cry like you do
You've seen all the romantic movies, you dream and take the boys home
But when the action fades you're left all alone
You deserve more than this, a real love that can grow
And I ain't playin' outtakes, girl, from some late late show, no
Mary Lou, you're not like all those others girls
Mary Lou, so afraid to shake up that real world

Every night you go out looking for true love's satisfaction
But you always end up setting for just lights, camera, action
And another cameo role with some bit player you're befriending
You're gonna go broken-hearted looking for that happy ending
Mary Lou, I've seen all those movies too
Mary Lou, I know the hurt too much dreaming can do
Mary Lou, you're gonna end up just another lonely ticket sold
Mary Lou, crying alone in the theatre as the credits roll
Let's go

(Berry/Buck/Mills/Stipe)

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on

'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone

Its really cold outside
I can hear a woman cryin
Was it was tears of happiness?
Bob had just handed her the crown
Said, “Ted I’m goin old”
Said, “And I’m losin my mind”
Said, “Here take the throne”
Ted looks perplexed
For he doesn’t know what do
He have always been a fool
Said, “Bob, what am I supposed do”
Said, “Iââ⠀šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢m so afraid, so afraid”
There walks in Sherman
Sherman the genius
All he needs was more time
Time to win another one for Favre
But Bob already lost his mind
Said, “Sherm your fired!”
Said, “but stay as coach”
Said, "I need someone to blame”
Said Sherman, "where is Ted?"
Said Bob, "Ted is hiding in the closet
He is afraid, so afraid"
Of what, Sherman asked
“Of the season the ahead.”
From the closet there comes a voice
It was ted and he said:
I cant measure up to you Sherm
You’re a man and im a woman (no offense)
You’re a master and im a servant
You’re a king and im a begger
I will take you down with me
Down with me.

"You never even call me by my name" by David Allen Cole

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
And you don't have to call me Charlie Pride
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard, anymore
Even though you're on my fightin side

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
I never minded standin in the rain
You don't have to call me "darlin", darlin
You never even call me by my name.

* My favorite part, this makes it a perfect country song*

Well I was drunk the day my mama got outta prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station with my pickup... truck
She got runned over by a damned old train

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
You don't have to call me Charlie Pride
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard anymore
Even though you're on my fighting side

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
I never minded standin in the rain
You don't have to call me "darlin" darlin
But you never even call me by my name
I wonder why you don't call me
You never even call me by my name

Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.

My stupid mouth
has got me in trouble
I said too much again
to a date over dinner yesterday
and i could see she was offended
she said, "Wll anyway..."
just dying for a subject change

Oh, another social casualty score one more for me
how could I forget?
Mama said "think before speaking"
No filter in my head]Oh, what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one soon

We bit our lips. She looked out the window
Rolling tiny balls of napkin paper
I played a quick game of chess with the
salt and pepper shaker
And I could see clearly
an indelible line was drawn
between what was good, what just
slipped out and what went wrong

Oh, the way she feels about me has changed
Thanks for playing, try again.

How could I forget?
Mama said "think before speaking
no filter in my head
Oh what's a boy to do
I guess he better find one
I'm never speaking up again. It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery than she desert me

Oh, I'm never speaking up again
Starting now

One more thing.
Why is it my ault?
So maybe I try too hard
but it's becaues of all this desire
I just wanna be liked, I just wanna be funny
Looks like the joke's on me
so call me captain backfire

I'm never speaking up again. It only hurts me
I'd rather be a mystery than she desert me

Oh, I'm never speading up again
Starting now

John Mayer "My Stupid Mouth" cause who hasn't had a foot in the mouth before. I can so relate.

And if you listen to "Your body is a wonderland" you can hear him chant "I'm never speaking up again" behind the last chorus.

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a house
i would buy you a house

maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a k-car
a nice reliant automobile
and if i had a million dollars
i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
i'd build a tree fort in our yard
if i had a million dollars
you could help wouldn't be that hard
if i had a million dollars
maybe we could put a little tiny fridge in there somewhere

and we could just go up there and hang out
like open the fridge and stuff
and there'd be foods laid out for us
with little pre-wrapped sausages and things
mmmm
they have pre-wrapped sausages, but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon
well can you blame 'em? uh, yeah!

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a fur coat
but not a real fur coat that's cruel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy an exotic pet
like a llama or an emu

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you john merrick's remains
eww, all them crazy elephant bones

if i had a million dollars
i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
we wouldn't have to walk to the store
if i had a million dollars
we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
if i had a million dollars
we wouldn't have to eat kraft dinner
but we would eat kraft dinner
of course we would, we'd just eat more
and buy really expensive ketchups with it
that's right all the fanciest ketch- dijon ketchup!
mmm! mmm!

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well, i'd buy you a green dress
but not a real green dress that's cruel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you some art
a picasso or a garfunkel

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
well i'd buy you a monkey
haven't you always wanted a monkey?

if i had a million dollars
i'd buy your love

if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
if i had a million dollars
if i had a million do-o-o-ollars
i'd be rich.

04-03-2006, 11:10 AM
No, I don't think you're a dork. Actually, TSO was a side-project from another great rock band, Savatage. Lots of rock musicians are tied to that project--Johnny Lee Middleton (Savatage), Al Pitrelli (Megadeth, Savatage), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Chris Caffery (Savatage), Paul O'Neill (Savatage, Aerosmith), Jon Olivia (Savatage), just to name a few.

Actually, I think TSO stemmed from Savatage's "Dead Winter Dead" album that came out in 1995 and featured their hit "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)". Savatage has always been a "rock opera" band, so the fact that they have ties to TSO is no big surprise. If you dig the rock part of TSO, you should check out Savatage.

My next TSO-related purchase will likely be the disc of Beethoven remakes. My friend and I decided that Beethoven would either love it or roll in his grave. No middle ground there.

Who was the singer they were using that died? Daryl something? He did one song on Christmas Eve and Other Stories that still never fails to make me cry after two years. That was my only problem with the concert is the guy they brought in to sing that song had the wrong voice for it.

Think i'm in love - Spiritualized

Sun so bright that I’m nearly blind
Cool cos I’m wired and I’m out of my mind
Warms the dope running down my spine
But I don’t care ’bout you and I’ve got nothing to do
Free as the warmth in the air that I breathe
Even freer than dmt
Feel the warmth of the sun in me
But I don’t care ’bout you and I’ve got nothing to do
Love in the middle of the afternoon
Just me, my spike in my arm and my spoon
Feel the warmth of the sun in the room
But I don’t care ’bout you
And I’ve got nothin’

I think I’m in love
Probably just hungry
I think I’m your friend
Probably just lonely
I think you got me in a spin now
Probably just turning
I think I’m a fool for you babe
Probably just yearning
I think I can rock and rool
Probably just twisting
I think I wanna tell the world
Probably ain’t listening
Come on

I think I can fly
Probably just falling
I think I’m the life and soul
Probably just snorting
I think I can hit the mark
Probably just aiming
I think my name is on your lips
Probably complaining
I think I have caught it bad
Probably contagious
I think I’m a winner baby
Probably las vegas
Come on

I think I’m alive
Probably just breathing
I think you stole my heart now baby
Probably just thieving
I think I’m on fire
Probably just smoking

Please tell me, please tell me Why
My car is in the front yard,

It's no suprise to me I am my own worst enemy
'Cause every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
The smoke alarm is going off,

Bob Schneider--"Love Is Everywhere"

Soon Li was a pilot in the nationally known
Amazing ladies of the outer ozone
She didn't have no kids she didn't have no time
She was a woman of her word, she was a fighter of crime
She looked good in a hat, she had a natural way
With tools and old cars, she went to UCLA

And everybody said she was as crazy as a loon
When she was a girl she'd spend every afternoon
Sitting in her backyard pretending to be
A fighter ace in the Japanese military
She liked to make up her mind, she kept her feet in the air
She wore her heart on her sleeve, cause she'd found it there

And it was all well and good until she met this young man
A young pilot named Steve with a beautiful tan
He spoke English and French and he swam like a swan
He had a mouth full of teeth, and more style than Cezanne
He could talk to the bees, he could breathe in the air
He wore his heart on his sleeve, cause he'd found it there

And they'd sit in the trees and they'd talk thru the night
While the blind moon swam in the pale starry light
And they talked and they crowed and they told what they knew
It was better than beer, it was all strange and knew
There was grass all around, there was black up above
It was more than hello, it was something like love

And I don't know why life, it seems to be
So hard for dreamers like you and me
When love is, love is, love is everywhere .

How was I to know

I was gambling in Havana
I took a little risk
Send lawyers, guns and money
Dad, get me out of this

I'm the innocent bystander
Somehow I got stuck
Between the rock and the hard place
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck
And I'm down on my luck

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shit has hit the fan

Send lawyers, guns and money...

The God that failed, by Metallica

Pride you took
Pride you feel
Pride that you felt when you'd kneel

Not the word
Not the love
Not what you thought from above

It feeds
It grows
It clouds all that you will know
Deceit
Deceive
Decide just what you believe

I see faith in your eyes
Never your hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

Follow the God that failed

Find your peace
Find your say
Find the smooth road in your way

Trust you gave
A child to save
Left you cold and him in grave

It feeds
It grows
It clouds all that you will know
Deceit
Deceive
Decide just what you believe

I see faith in your eyes
Never you hear the discouraging lies
I hear faith in your cries
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

Follow the God that failed

I see faith in your eyes
Broken is the promise, betrayal
The healing hand held back by the deepened nail

Follow the God that failed

Pride you took
Pride you feel
Pride that you felt when you'd kneel

Trust you gave

Left you cold and him in grave

I see faith in your eyes

I really hated Wings, and truthfully I ain't that big of a McCartney fan except for his brilliance with writing music and performing, I pretty much think he is an asshole. When Guns and Roses came out with this song, I thought it was the most fantastic thing I ever heard, then I listened to the Wings version and I now have to go back to the original even though it is fucking Wings.

When you were young and your heart was an open book
You used to say live and let live
You know you did
You know you did
You know you did
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry

Chorus
Say live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die
Live and let die

What does it matter to ya?
When you gotta job to do
You gotta do it well
You gotta give the other fellow hell

You used to say live and let live
You know you did
You know you did
You know you did
But if this ever-changing world in which we live in
Makes you give in and cry

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame

You say
One love
One life
When it’s one need
In the night
It’s one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don’t care for it

Did I disappoint you?
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth?
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without

Well it’s too late
Tonight
To drag tha past out
Into the light
We’re one
But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come tor raise the dead
Havew you come here to play jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it’s all I got
We’re one
But we’re not the same
We hurt each other
Then we do it again

You say
Love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter
But then you make me crawl
And I can’t be holding on
To what you got
When all you got is hurt

One love
One blood
One life
You got to do what you should

One life
With each other
Sisters
Brothers

One life
But we’re not the same
We get to carry each other
Carry each other

One

One.

Okay, I remembered the artist and title, I just forgot the personal significance thing. So here goes:

My Own Worst Enemy is kind of my "anthem". Because I've frequently regretted things I've said the night before, have woken up fully dressed, and have had an occasion or two of "where the hell did I park".

Lawyers, Guns and Money came to me when I was driving to the police station one day to bail out a friend, who had been picked up for unpaid traffic tickets...several hundred dollars worth of unpaid traffic tickets.
He got picked up by the police while trying to break up a fight. When he gave his name, they ran a check, found out about his tickets and hauled him off to jail. No good deed goes unpunished.

But that night before story makes me think of this:

Well you went uptown riding in your limousine
In your fine Park Avenue clothes
You had the Dom Perignon in your hand
And the spoon up your nose
And when you wake up in the morning
With your head on fire
And your eyes too bloody to see
Go on and cry in your coffee
But don't come bitchin' to me

Because you had to be a big shot, didn't you
You had to open up your mouth
You had to be a big shot, didn't you
All your friends were so knocked out
You had to have the last word, last night
You know what everything's about
You had to have a white hot spotlight
You had to be a big shot last night

Well they were all impressed with your Halston dress
And the people that you knew at Elaine's
And the story of your latest success
You Kept 'em so entertained
But now you just don't remember
All the things you said
And you're not sure you want to know
I'll give you one hint, honey
You sure did put on a show

Yes, yes, you had to be a big shot, didn't you
You had to prove it to the crowd
You had to be a big shot, didn't you
All your friends were so knocked out
You had to have the last word, last night
You're so much fun to be around
You had to have the front page, bold type
You had to be a big shot last night

Well, it's no big sin to stick your two cents in
If you know when to leave it alone
But you went over the line
You couldn't see it was time to go home

No, no, no, no, no, no, you had to be a big shot, didn't you
You had to open up your mouth
You had to be a big shot, didn't you
All your friends were so knocked out
You had to have the last word, last night
So much fun to be around
(LIVE VERSION ON 3RD CHORUS ONLY: "You know what everything's about")
You had to have a white hot spotlight
You had to be a big shot last night

Big shot...Big shot...Big shot...Whoa whoa!!
Big shot...Big shot...Big shot...

Sing it Billy!! His old stuff was so much better than the new stuff. Did you know that Billy Joel used to have a metal band when he was a youngin' I will post the name in about an hour when I think of it.

Edit: Attila. They had one album and I have a copy.

Super Furry Animals - Presidential Suite

Great sense of humor, interesting use of the Love Boat theme, and pretty much sums of my feeling to the Clinton "scandal."

Monica and naughty Billy
Got together something silly now
Holy wars out of lusty minutes
Another Cuban cigar crisis
Honestly!
Do we need to know if he really came inside her mouth?
How will all this affect me
Now and later

You know that we belong
In a presidential suite
Armed guards in the street
Waving back at crowds who greet

And when I look over
Over my shoulder
I can't see my past
It seems so far away

Found an icon that gave him a hard one
Little Boris just can't help himself
Got so hot in the decadent nineties
Pass another vodka dear

We can dance
'Til the early hours of the morning catches up
Then we'll return to business
If there's any of it left!

You know that we belong
In a presidential suite
Armed guards in the street
Waving back at crowds who greet

And when I look over
Over my shoulder
I can't see my past
It seems so far away

What makes you think that
We belong in a presidential suite
Armed guards in the street
Waving back at crowds who greet
Yes indeed

You know that when we met
There were fireworks in the sky
Sparkling like dragonflies

Not really most memorable but rather most in my head right now.

Jack Johnson - It's All Understood

Everyone laughed at her joke
As if they'd never even heard it before
And maybe they were truly amused
But every word that she spoke was a bore
And maybe it's because they had seen
The previews on the TV screen
Well this part is good and that's well understood
So you should laugh if you know what I mean

But it's all relative
Even if you don't understand
Well it's all understood
Especially when you don't understand
Then it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe

Everyone knows what went down
Because the news was spread all over town
And fact is only what you believe
And fact and fiction work as a team
It's almost always fiction in the end
That content begins to bend
When context is never the same

And it's all relative
Even if we don't understand
And that's well understood
Especially when we don't understand
Then it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe

I was reading a book
Or maybe it was a magazine
Suggestions on where to place faith
Suggestions on what to believe
But I read somewhere
That you've got to beware
You can't believe anything you read
But the good Book is good
And that's well understood
So don't even question
If you know what I mean

But it's all relative
Even if you don't understand
Well it's all understood
Especially when you don't understand
And it's all just because
Even if we don't understand
Then lets all just believe

But there you go once again
You missed the point and then you point
Your fingers at me
And say that I said not to believe
I believe
I guess
I guess it's all relative

Here is a Gary Allen song. It was kinda and anthem song for my buddy and me a year or two before I got married. I ain't the greatest of persons, but I think I am all right.

You know just the other morning,
i was hanging around in my house,
i had that old book with pictures,
of madonna naked,
and i was checking it out,
well just then a friend of mine came to the door,
she said she never picked me for a scum-bag before,
said she didn't never wanna see me no more,
and i still, don't know why,

i think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm an alright guy,
well i just wanna live, until i gotta die,
i kno i ain't perfect,
but God knows, i try,
think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm alright

Well, maybe I'm dirty,
And sometimes I like to get stoned.
Ain't like I'm foolin' with my Intern,
While I'm talkin' on the phone.
well, i know i get wild, and i know i get drunk,
it's not like i got a bunch of bodies in my trunk,
my old man used to call me a no good punk,
and i still don't know why,

i think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm an alright guy,
well i just wanna live, until i gotta die,
i kno i ain't perfect,
but God knows, i try,
think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm alright

you know, just the other night,
the cops pulled me over outside the bar,
well they turned on their lights,
and they ordered me out of my car,
man, i was only kidding when i called them a coupla dicks,
but still they made me the stupid human tricks,
now i'm stuck in this jail,
with a bunch of dumb hicks, and i still don't know why,

i think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm an alright guy,
well i just wanna live, until i gotta die,
i kno i ain't perfect,
but God knows, i try,
think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm alright

you know, i think i'm an alright guy,
i think i'm alright

Kentucky Avenue--Tom Waits

eddie grace's buick got 4 bullet holes in the side
charlie delisle sittin at the top of an avocado tree
mrs storm'll stab you with a steak knife if you step on her lawn
i got a half pack of lucky strikes, man, come along with me
lets fill our pockets with macadamia nuts
then go over to bobby goodmanson's and jump off the roof
hilda plays strip poker and her mama's across the street
joey navinski says she put her tongue in his mouth
dicky faulkner's got a switchblade and some gooseneck risers
that eucalyptus is a hunchback there's a wind up from the south
let me tie you up with kite string and i'll show you the scabs on my knees
watch out for the broken glass, put your shoes and socks on
and come along with me
lets follow that fire truck--i think your house is burnin' down
then go down to the hobo jungle and kill some rattlesnakes with a trowel
then we'll break all the windows in the old anderson place
and steal a bunch of boysenberrys and we'll smear 'em on our face
i'll get a dollar from my mama's purse and buy you that skull and crossbones ring
and you can wear it around your neck on an old piece of string
then we'll spit on ronnie arnold and flip him the bird
and slash the tires on the school bus, now don't say a word
i'll take a rusty nail and scratch your initials on my arm
and i'll show you how to sneak up on the roof of the drugstore
I'll take the spokes from your wheelchair and a magpie's wings
and tie 'em to your shoulders and your feet
i'll steal a hacksaw from my dad, cut the braces off your legs
and we'll bury them tonight out in the cornfield
just put a church key in your pocket
we'll hop that freight train in the hall
and we'll slide down the drain all the way to new orleans in the fall

Zig, this outta make you smile. From CNN.com today...

It's number 'One' on the list of top lyrics
U2 line beats out bits from Smiths, Nirvana

LONDON, England (AP) -- The Irish band U2 has given Britain its favorite song lyric, according to a survey released Monday.

The line "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers" from the 1992 song "One" topped a poll conducted by music channel VH1.

Runner-up was the downbeat "So you go and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die" from The Smiths' "How Soon is Now."

A line from Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" -- "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us" -- came third. Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and Coldplay's "Yellow" took fourth and fifth places.

The top 10 was a mix of the affirmative and the acerbic, ranging from Robbie Williams' uplifting "Angels" -- "And through it all she offers me protection, a lot of love and affection, whether I'm right or wrong" -- to Radiohead's sour "Creep."

More than 13,000 people participated in the poll on the station's Web site, choosing from a list of 100 lyrics selected by music industry figures.

In the time of my confession, in the hour of my deepest need
When the pool of tears beneath my feet flood every newborn seed
There's a dyin' voice within me reaching out somewhere,
Toiling in the danger and in the morals of despair.

Don't have the inclination to look back on any mistake,
Like Cain, I now behold this chain of events that I must break.
In the fury of the moment I can see the Master's hand
In every leaf that trembles, in every grain of sand.

Oh, the flowers of indulgence and the weeds of yesteryear,
Like criminals, they have choked the breath of conscience and good cheer.
The sun beat down upon the steps of time to light the way
To ease the pain of idleness and the memory of decay.

I gaze into the doorway of temptation's angry flame
And every time I pass that way I always hear my name.
Then onward in my journey I come to understand
That every hair is numbered like every grain of sand.

I have gone from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the violence of a summer's dream, in the chill of a wintry light,
In the bitter dance of loneliness fading into space,
In the broken mirror of innocence on each forgotten face.

I hear the ancient footsteps like the motion of the sea
Sometimes I turn, there's someone there, other times it's only me.
I am hanging in the balance of the reality of man
Like every sparrow falling, like every grain of sand.

The Doors - Hello, I Love You

Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
She's walking down the street
Blind to every eye she meets
Do you think you'll be the guy
To make the queen of the angels sigh?
Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
Hello, I love you
Won't you tell me your name?
Hello, I love you
Let me jump in your game
She holds her head so high
Like a statue in the sky
Her arms are wicked, and her legs are long
When she moves my brain screams out this song
Sidewalk crouches at her feet
Like a dog that begs for something sweet
Do you hope to make her see, you fool?
Do you hope to pluck this dusky jewel?
Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello
I want you
Hello
I need my baby
Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello

Yeah, Bob Dylan rulez!!!!

--Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)

You say you love me
And you're thinkin' of me,
But you know you could be wrong.
You say you told me
That you wanna hold me,
But you know you're not that strong.
I just can't do what I done before,
I just can't beg you any more.
I'm gonna let you pass
And I'll go last.
Then time will tell just who fell
And who's been left behind,
When you go your way and I go mine.

You say you disturb me
And you don't deserve me,
But you know sometimes you lie.
You say you're shakin'
And you're always achin',
But you know how hard you try.
Sometimes it gets so hard to care,
It can't be this way ev'rywhere.
And I'm gonna let you pass,
Yes, and I'll go last.
Then time will tell just who fell
And who's been left behind,
When you go your way and I go mine.

The judge, he holds a grudge,
He's gonna call on you.
But he's badly built
And he walks on stilts,
Watch out he don't fall on you.

You say you're sorry
For tellin' stories
That you know I believe are true.
You say ya got some
Other kinda lover
And yes, I believe you do.
You say my kisses are not like his,
But this time I'm not gonna tell you why that is.
I'm just gonna let you pass,
Yes, and I'll go last.
Then time will tell who fell
And who's been left behind,
When you go your way and I go mine.

Down to Seeds And Stems Again Blues - Commander Cody

I'm sittin alone, Saturday night, watching the Late Late Show.
A bottle of wine, some cigarettes, I got no place to go.
Well, I saw your other man today; he was wearing my brand new shoes,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Well, I met my old friend Bob today from up in Bowling Green;
He had the prettiest little gal that I'd ever seen.
But I couldn't hide my tears at all, cause she looked just like you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Now everybody tells me there's other ways to get high.
They don't seem to understand I'm too far gone to try.
Now these lonely memories, they're all I can't lose,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Well my dog died just yesterday and left me all alone.
The finance company dropped by today and repossessed my home.
That's just a drop in the bucket compared to losing you,
And I'm down to seeds and stems again, too.

Got the Down to Seeds an Stems again Blues

"Sam Stone" by John Prine

Sam Stone came home,
To his wife and family
After serving in the conflict overseas.
And the time that he served,
Had shattered all his nerves,
And left a little shrapnel in his knee.
But the morphine eased the pain,
And the grass grew round his brain,
And gave him all the confidence he lacked,
With a Pur ple Heart and a monkey on his back.

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes,
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose.
Little pitchers have big ears,
Don't stop to count the years,
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios.
Mmm....

Sam Stone's welcome home
Didn't last too long.
He went to work when he'd spent his last dime
And Sammy took to stealing
When he got that empty feeling
For a hundred dollar habit without overtime.
And the gold rolled through his veins
Like a thousand railroad trains,
And eased his mind in the hours that he chose,
While the kids ran around wearin' other peoples' clothes...

Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
Well, he played his last request
While the room smelled just like death
With an overdose hovering in the air
But life had lost its fun
And there was nothing to be done
But trade his house that he bought on the G, I. Bill
For a flag draped casket on a local heroes' hill

Some people ain't kind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
A few frozen pizzas
Some ice cubes with hair
A broken Popsicle
You don't want to go there

Some humans ain't human
Though they walk like we do
They live and they breathe
Just to turn the old screw
They screw you when you're sleeping
They try to screw you blind
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

You might go to church
And sit down in a pew
Those humans who ain't human
Could be sittin' right next to you
They talk about your family
They talk about your clothes
When they don't know their own ass
From their own elbows

Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Love Song for No One--John Mayer

Staying home alone on a Friday
Flat on the floor looking back
On old love
Or lack thereof
After all the crushes are faded
And all my wishful thinking was wrong
I’m jaded
I hate it

I’m tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here

Searching all my days just to find you
I’m not sure who I’m looking for
I’ll know it
When I see you
Until then, I’ll hide in my bedroom
Staying up all night just to write
A love song for no one

I’m tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here

I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away?

I could have met you in a sandbox
I could have passed you on the sidewalk
Could I have missed my chance
And watched you walk away?

I’m tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
So tired of being alone
So hurry up and get here
You’ll be so good
You’ll be so good for me

Here's a blast from my checkered past:

Appetite--Prefab Sprout

Please be careful is never careful
Till it hears the gun
She will always pay the bills
For they're having big fun
He talks so well, what can you do,
It's pretty plain he means it too
I don't want to sell you lines,
I only mean to do you right
But I'm a simple slave of appetite,
I'm a poor slave of appetite

Hunger howls, hunger's red,
Hungers stays till it's fed
Then it some how fades,
Then it somehow leaves your sight
Depending on it's appetite,
Depending on your appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Here she is with two small problems
And the best part of the blame
Wishes she could call him heartache
But it's not a boy's name

If you grow up to be, just like him, just like me
You're fighting for exclusive rights,
For honeymoons each sleepless night
In which case I'll call you appetite
Yes I think I'll call you appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

So if you take - Then put back good
If you steal - be Robin Hood
If your eyes are wanting all you see
Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Then I think I'll name you after me
I think I'll call you appetite

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Best son ever (IMO)

badgepack, I see that you are relatively new to Packerrats (well by post count anyway). btw welcome, its nice to have new blood here. I'm going to guess that you haven't read all 6 pages this thread either (well, i wouldn't have), but earlier in this thread we talked not only posting some memorable lyrics, but also posting why they are memorable to you. so why is "wish you were here" the greatest song, and why do these lyrics speak to you.

I would agree with you, even this old redneck enjoys Floyd. just some great mellow music. something you can sitback, kick back and smoke a fat ass j.......well i've never inhaled

great to have you on board.

I'm going to see John Prine in Madison tonight, so I thought I'd post the first song that made me notice John Prine. It's still one of his best:

Hello in There
(John Prine)

We had an apartment in the city
And me and Loretta liked living there
It'd been years since the kids had grown
A life of their own
And left us alone
John and Linda live in Omaha
And Joe is somewhere on the road
We lost Davy in the Korean War
I still don't know what for
Don't matter anymore

cho: Ya know, that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder everyday
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say
Hello in there
Hello

Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more
She sits and stares thru the back door screen
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream
That we've both seen
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy
We worked together at the factory
But what could I say when he asks "What's new?"?
Nothing, what's with you?
Nothing much to do

So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass'em by and stare
As if you didn't care
Say hello in there
Hello

here is a song for tank. in the other thread when i told you that country music is about life, well here is an example. granted you might never get to do this but might have experienced it with others.

I always heard that his herb was top shelf
I just could not wait to find out for myself
Don't knock it til' you tried it, Well I tried it my friend
And I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

I learned a hard lesson in a small Texas town
He fired up a fat boy and passed him around
The last words that I spoke before they tucked me in
Was I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My parties all over before it begins
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

I hopped on his old bus, the Honey Suckle Rose
The party was Vegas it was after the show.
Alone in the front lounge with just me and him,
With one parting puff grim creeper set in.

I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My parties all over before it begins
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

Now we're passing the guitar and telling good jokes
I know ones a-comin' cause I'm smelling smoke
No I do not partake, I just let it pass by
With a smile on my face and a great contact high

I'll never smoke weed with Willie again
My parties all over before it begins
You can pour me some old whiskey river my friend
But I'll never smoke weed with Willie again

In the fetal position with drool on my chin
I messed up and smoked weed with Willie again

'Lookin' for a Leader'
by Neil Young

Lookin' for a leader
To bring our country home
Re-unite the red white and blue
Before it turns to stone

Lookin' for somebody
Young enough to take it on
Clean up the corruption
And make the country strong

Walkin' among our people
There's someone who's straight and strong
To lead us from desolation
And a broken world gone wrong

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all

Yeah maybe it's Obama
But he thinks that he's too young
Maybe it's Colin Powell
To right what he's done wrong

America has a leader
But he's not in the house
He's walking here among us
And we've got to seek him out

Yeah we've got our election
But corruption has a chance
We got to have a clean win
To regain confidence

America is beautiful
But she has an ugly side
We're lookin' for a leader
In this country far and wide
We're lookin' for a leader
With the great spirit on his side

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all

One of my favorite songs of all-time...

Dead Can Dance's Song of the Dispossessed

The river is deep and the road is long
Daylight comes and I want to go home

Awoke this morning
To find my people's tongues were tied
And in my dreams
They were given books to poison their minds

The river is deep and the mountain high
How long before the other side

We are their mortar
Their building bricks and their clay
Their gold teeth mirror
Both our joys and our pain

The river is deep and the ocean wide
Who will teach us how to read the signs

The earth is our mother
She taught us to embrace the light
Now the lord is master
She suffers an eternal night

You blocked up my ears
You plucked out my eyes
You cut out my tongue
You fed me with lies

I can think of a thousand but this one harkens back to my college days. sitting in a bean bag chair with headphones on (Koss, of course), drifting off in haze of smoke... :D

The Moody Blues, Late Lament (normally follows Nights in White Satin)

Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy is spent.

Impassioned lovers wrestle as one;
Lonely man cries for love and has none;
New mother picks up and suckles her son;
Senior citizens wish they were young.

Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight,
Red is grey and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion.

IT'S ALL OVER NOW, BABY BLUE

Bob Dylan

You must leave now, take what you need, you think will last.
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan with his gun,
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin' through
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

The highway is for gamblers, better use your sense.
Take what you have gathered from coincidence.
The empty-handed painter from your streets
Is drawing crazy patterns on your sheets.
This sky, too, is folding under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

All your seasick sailors, they are rowing home.
All your reindeer armies, are all going home.
The lover who just walked out your door
Has taken all his blankets from the floor.
The carpet, too, is moving under you
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you.
Forget the dead you've left, they will not follow you.
The vagabond who's rapping at your door
Is standing in the clothes that you once wore.
Strike another match, go start anew
And it's all over now, Baby Blue.

William Robinson (and the Miracles) "More Love"

Let it be soon, don't hesitate
Make it now, don't wait
Open your heart & let my love come in
I want the moment to start when I can fill your heart with...

CHORUS:
More love, more joy
Than age or time could ever destroy
My love will be so sound
It would take about 100 lifetimes
To live it down, wear it down, tear it down

This is no fiction, this is no act
This is real, it's a fact
I'll always belong only to you
Each day I'll be living to make sure I'm giving you...

(chorus)

As we grow older no need to fear
When you need me I'll be here
I'll be beside you every step of the way
A heart that's truthful & keeping you youthful with...

(repeat chorus & fade)

"One" by: U2

Is it getting better
Or do you feel the same
Will it make it easier on you
Now you got someone to blame
You say one love, one life
When it's one need in the night
It's one love
We get to share it
It leaves you baby
If you don't care for it

Did I disappoint you
Or leave a bad taste in your mouth
You act like you never had love
And you want me to go without
Well it's too late tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One

Have you come here for forgiveness
Have you come to raise the dead
Have you come here to play Jesus
To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much
More than a lot
You gave me nothing
Now it's all I got
We're one but we're not the same
We hurt each other, then we do it again

You say love is a temple
Love a higher law
Love is a temple
Love the higher law
You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl
And I can't be holding on to what you got
When all you got is hurt
One love, one blood, one life
You got to do what you should
One life with each other
Sisters, brothers
One life but we're not the same
We get to carry each other, carry each other
One
One

Lyrics for Song: Jerusalem
Lyrics for Album: Jerusalem
I woke up this mornin' and none of the news was good
And death machines were rumblin' 'cross the ground where Jesus stood
And the man on my TV told me that it had always been that way
And there was nothin' anyone could do or say

And I almost listened to him
Yeah, I almost lost my mind
Then I regained my senses again
And looked into my heart to find

That I believe that one fine day all the children of Abraham
Will lay down their swords forever in Jerusalem

Well maybe I'm only dreamin' and maybe I'm just a fool
But I don't remember learnin' how to hate in Sunday school
But somewhere along the way I strayed and I never looked back again
But I still find some comfort now and then

Then the storm comes rumblin' in
And I can't lay me down
And the drums are drummin' again
And I can't stand the sound

But I believe there'll come a day when the lion and the lamb
Will lie down in peace together in Jerusalem

And there'll be no barricades then
There'll be no wire or walls
And we can wash all this blood from our hands
And all this hatred from our souls

And I believe that on that day all the children of Abraham
Will lay down their swords forever in Jerusalem

Watching the news today made me think of this song. I guess we can hope.

I never got into U2 too much because all their songs were so darn earnest.

I remember driving into Joshua Tree National Park in CA, and some U2 songs from that "The Joshua Tree" came on the radio. I thought it was some sign from God. It was only later that I figured out that the local radio station must play tha album a lot to give out of town rubes like me a little jolt.

FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER LYRICS

"Pictures Of Shorelines"

If you insist on pictures of shorelines
then i insist on pages of your lines meant for me,
to be sent to me.

Remember watching the storms from the lifeguard stand.
Remember feeling the tingling in my fingertips
when I touched your lips.

And I recall how you sat on the same side of me,
it always seemed that you'd always be on my side.
You're my best side.

And it's early June, so the sand's still dry,
and you have got the boldest eyes,
and I can't help but think it's right,
that inside you it's me I'll find.
And I'm still waiting.

And it's early June, so the sand's still dry,
and the storm off shore is not far behind.
And I'm still waiting.

And sometimes you don't say a thing for a long while.
And the ships off shore hold stories that we'd make.
And sometimes we are held at bay by these miles.
But less of you is more than I can take.

And the moments that we've shared could last a lifetime.
And the faith I have in us will keep you near.
And several of these miles placed in between us
mean several of these words being sent by mail.
I hope this letter finds you well.

Reminds me thats its ok to move on.

Me
2001

I dont think that I could say that I want to be here tomorrow
but i dont want to speculate on things the way I used to
one plus one is two and the reason for me saying bye to grey skies
maybe i'll see you around

words all ringing hollow
are the words you say all true
promises in vein
i have no reason to doubt
much too hard to swallow
all my focus shifts from you

You came from nothing saying nothing maybe i will be the one to
Take the pressure off so take a chance sometime and talk to me
but one plus one is two the reason for you taking things so seriously
maybe thing would be all right

words all ringing hollow
are the words you say all true
promises in vein
i have no reason to doubt
maybe i'll see you around

Dunno....just thought I would throw this one out there. Think of it in terms of a screamo song and it makes a little more sense.

Blotto--"I Wanna Be A Lifeguard"

Selling shoes
Another loser working in a shopping mall
9 to 5
A slave driver telling me "Get on the ball!"
A crowded store
I kneel before them
Misery beyond compare
Sweaty socks
A lady boxer
What's she got against fresh air?
I want an ocean and some sunscreen lotion
Take me to the beach with a thousand pretty girls in reach
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help,help,help,help)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Hardly any clothes (lifeguard)
Sand between my toes (lifeguard)
White stuff on my nose
Selling shoes
Another loser working in a shopping mall
I'm getting fat
What does it matter?
Nobody cares at all
But next July, I'll say goodbye to every out-of-it, dull-witted fool
Convert their feet into meters, marking distance at the swimming pool
Summer blondes revealing tanlines
I'll make more moves than Allied Van Lines
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (be a big man, now...get a great tan, now)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Sitting on my chair (lifeguard)
In the salty air (lifeguard)
White stuff on my nose
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help,help,help,help)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Lounging on the deck (lifeguard)
Whistle 'round my neck (lifeguard)
White stuff in my nose
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)

Let the 80s flashback continue:

Lone Justice--"Ways To Be Wicked"

Honey tell me why you smile
When you see me hurt so bad
Tell me what I did to you babe
That could make you act like that
Yes I've been your fool before babe
And I probably will again
'Cuz you ain't afraid to let me have it
You ain't afraid to stick it in
Yeah you know so many ways to be wicked
But you don't know one little thing about love
Yeah I can take a little pain
I can hold it pretty well
I can watch your little eyes light up
While you're walkin' me through hell
Yes I've been your fool before, babe
And I probably will again
'Cuz you ain't afraid to let me have it
You ain't afraid to stick it in
Yeah you know so many ways to be wicked
But you don't know one little thing about love
Yeah those cobra eyes
Light with a smile
You take pride
In that devil down inside
I can take a little pain
I can hold it pretty well
I can watch your little eyes light up
While you're walkin' me through hell
Yeah I've been your fool before babe
And I probably will again
No you ain't afraid to let me have it
Honey you ain't afraid to stick it in
You know so many ways to be wicked
But you don't know one little thing about love
You know so many ways to be wicked
But you don't know one little thing about love

Talk the simple smile
Such platonic eye
How they drown in incomplete capacity
Strangest of them all
When the feeling calls
How we drown in stylistic audacity
Charge the common ground
Round and round and round
We living in gravity
Shake - We shake so hard
How we laugh so loud
When we reach
We believe in eternity
I believe in eternity
Hold on - Hold on

Dropkick Murphys
"Bastards on Parade"

I've lost all the time that I have in this world
I spent it unwisely. Unwisely you see
And I can't get it back
And I can't move forward
I'm broken and I'm empty
It's over for me

If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused
Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just
For I'm just a fool
A fool driven to dust
And the world ain't gonna change for me

So give me one more chance to prove these problems and frustrations
aren't just manifest in memories we're destined to repeat
A second chance to prove I know right from wrong
I swear I'll do things different but can't promise to be strong

So come on all you losers, you bastards and cheats
Vagrants and barflies down on the streets
Follow this path to salvation vindication awaits
We're marching on East Broadway streets tonight

If you can look into this old face and try to see the young man
I swear I once was pretty, not the monster you now see
But I squandered all my chances
Lost my faith and took for granted
This life and precious one chance the whirlwind I'll reep

If I could undo all the wrongs that I've caused
Fall to my knees pray for swiftness and just
For I'm just a fool
A fool driven to dust
And the world ain't gonna change for me

So come on all you losers, you bastards and cheats
Vagrants and barflies down on the streets
Follow this path to salvation vindication awaits
We're marching on East Broadway streets tonight

Blotto--"I Wanna Be A Lifeguard"

Selling shoes
Another loser working in a shopping mall
9 to 5
A slave driver telling me "Get on the ball!"
A crowded store
I kneel before them
Misery beyond compare
Sweaty socks
A lady boxer
What's she got against fresh air?
I want an ocean and some sunscreen lotion
Take me to the beach with a thousand pretty girls in reach
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help,help,help,help)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Hardly any clothes (lifeguard)
Sand between my toes (lifeguard)
White stuff on my nose
Selling shoes
Another loser working in a shopping mall
I'm getting fat
What does it matter?
Nobody cares at all
But next July, I'll say goodbye to every out-of-it, dull-witted fool
Convert their feet into meters, marking distance at the swimming pool
Summer blondes revealing tanlines
I'll make more moves than Allied Van Lines
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (be a big man, now...get a great tan, now)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Sitting on my chair (lifeguard)
In the salty air (lifeguard)
White stuff on my nose
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (help,help,help,help)
I, I, I wanna guard your life
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)
Lounging on the deck (lifeguard)
Whistle 'round my neck (lifeguard)
White stuff in my nose
I, I, I wanna be a lifeguard (lifeguard, lifeguard)

Iron Mike, Bonus points for identifying this classic 80s rock/disco tune.

In a jungle of the senses
Tinkerbell and Jack the ripper
Love has no meaning, not where they come from
But we know pleasure is not that simple
Very little fruit is forbidden
Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong
But you know evil is an exact science
Being carefully correctly wrong

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans
Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us
We drink elixirs that we refine
From the juices of the dying
We are no monsters, we're moral people
And yet we have the strength to do this
This is the splendour of our achievement
Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

How bad it gets, you can't imagine
The burning wax, the breath of reptiles
God is not mocked, he owns our business
Karma could take us at any moment
Cover him up, I think we're finished
You know it's never been so exotic
But I don't know, my dreams are visions
We could still end up with the great big fishes

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home
Big black nemesis, parthenogenesis
No-one move a muscle as the dead come home

Priests and cannibals, prehistoric animals
Everybody happy as the dead come home...

That's Shriekback, but I'll be damned if I can remember the title....

Where've you been, BTW?

Title: Nemesis. I thought you would get it by reading the lyrics. Whenever you post 80s I know, if you were in wisco that we were at the same shows or listened to alot of the same bands. Blotto...you really pulled one out there. Not to may "humor" bands did i like..maybe them and the Tubes, Oingo Boingo. But, that was a great time to be watching MTV. Everyday you'd discover something new. SIGH.

Got me thinking about all old bands I was listening to back then...dream syndicate, 3 o'clock, Dbs, Wire Train, Let's active, translator, Golden Palominos, etc. Big jangle psych pop fan.

Where I been? First, i'm always lurking, but not always thrilled with the threads or subject matter. Plus, i don't like to get involved in the little squables..partial, etc.

Second, busy working. Gotta make the dollars. 2nd and 3rd quarter are the big quarters in my line of work, so working hard and little time on the road.

Third, like to inflict a little heartache on the FYI thread on jsonline. According to Lamboo and TPB i'm a traiterous, anti american liberal scum. LOL

Lastly, SHOWS. Brilliant show by The Clientele..one of my favs. Next 2 weeks include: The Long Winters, Phoenix (and I live in Phx, ahh, the irony), Massive Attack, Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Black Keys, Sparta etc.

I think you told me about LUCERO..they are coming in October.

Good shows or music for you?

"Rave On"

Well the little things you say and do
Make me want to be with you
Rave on it's a crazy feelin and
I know its got me reelin
When you say, I love you
Rave on

The way you dance and hold me tight
The way you kiss and say goodnight
Rave on it's a crazy feelin and
I know its got me reelin
When you say, I love you
Rave on

Well rave on
Its a crazy feelin
and I know
Its got me reelin
Im so glad
That you're revealin your love for me

Well rave on
Rave on and tell me
Tell me
Not to be lonely
Tell me
You love me only
Rave on to me

Well rave on
Its a crazy feelin
and I know
Its got me reelin
Im so glad
That you're revealin your love for me

Well rave on
Rave on and tell me
Tell me
Not to be lonely
Tell me
You love me only
Rave on to me

Best song ever in my opinion,

Just talked to one of Holly's back-up singers in the day, and listened to a special on Holly on BBC radio, and thought I'd post the lyrics.

Eight friggin pages of lyrics, and not one Stones song. You people sicken me.

How's about a little nasty something called Stray Cat Blues (obviously a favorite of Bill Wyman) from Beggars Banquet:

I hear the click-clack of your feet on the stairs
I know you're no scare-eyed honey.
There'll be a feast if you just come upstairs
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

I can see that you're fifteen years old
No I don't want your I.D.
I can see you're so far from home
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat
Oh yeah, don'tcha scratch like that
Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat
Bet your mama don't know you scream like that
I bet your mother don't know you can spit like that.

You look so weird and you're so far from home
But you don't really miss your mother
Don't look so scared I'm no mad-brained bear
But it's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime
Oh, yeah
Woo!

I bet your mama don't know that you scatch like that
I bet she don't know you can bite like that.

You say you got a friend, that she's wilder than you
Why don't you bring her upstairs
If she's so wild then she can join in too
It's no hanging matter
It's no capital crime

Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat
Oh yeah, don'tcha scratch like that
Oh yeah, you're a strange stray cat
I bet you mama don't know you can bite like that
I'll bet she never saw you scratch my back

This is from 1968 and it's got it all -- even the suggestion of a 3-way. All other bands must bow and lick the boots of the mighty Stones. Of course, now that I have teen-age daughters, the song has lost some of its charm.

Artist/Band: Lynne Shelby
Lyrics for Song: Old Times Sake
Lyrics for Album: Suit Yourself
Before you go and walk out on me
Take a look around and tell me what you see.
Cause here I stand like an open book
Is there something here you might have overlooked.

And it would be a shame if you leave
And find that freedom ain’t what you thought it would be.

The years we had were not all bad
In fact I know the good outweighed the bad.
And now you say that you’ve grown tired
And you want to be by yourself a while.

It would be a shame if you go
And find that freedom was a long time ago

I know you can’t stand for chains to bind you
But they just keep on driving us apart.
And you could go where I would never find you
But could you go far enough to get away from you’re heart.

So one more time for old times sake
Come and lay your head upon my chest.
Please don’t throw this moment away.
We can forget the bad and take the best.

And if you don’t have nothing left to say
Let me hold you one more time for old times sake.
And if you don’t have nothing left to say
Let me hold you one more time for old times sake.

My current favorite song. Suit Yourself is a great understated album by an artist that deserves a bigger audience than she's got.

Hard tp pinpoint. I guess she would fall into the Alternative Country field. Here is a review of the Album:

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Lynne's follow-up to 2003's Identity Crisis works the same sparse, moody territory, but if the title of the former spoke to her self-esteem at the time, Suit Yourself shows her being more confident in every way. Again acting as her own producer, Lynne took the demo tapes she made in her California home studio to Nashville, where she augmented her first-take vocals with guitar (the Wallflowers' Michael Ward), keyboards (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench), bass, drums, pedal steel, Dobro, and mandolin, employing those instruments merely as brush strokes on a wide-open canvas of voice and emotion. Throughout, Lynne strives to make the project so relaxed that a listener feels as if he's sitting cross-legged in the room--the first track begins with studio chatter, and elsewhere you can hear ice cubes clinking in a glass and the sound of someone pushing the stop button on a tape recorder. For those who prefer a more polished production, this fly-on-the-wall approach may be disconcerting, especially as the occasional track seems unfinished or a bit too rough, with an out-of-tune guitar or a rhythmic disconnect between singer and players. But ultimately, the album satisfies with the honesty and strength of the material, which ranges from Lynne's killer cover of guest Tony Joe White's "Rainy Night in Georgia" (here titled simply "Track 12") to the smoky groove of "I Cry Everyday," the wistful ballad "Old Time's Sake," and the Waylon Jennings-like "Iced Tea." Speaking of outlaws, "Johnny Met June," one of the most memorable tracks, details the Cashes' "meeting" on the far banks of the Jordan. Lynne wrote it the day Johnny died. --Alanna Nash

Strong cd from Shelby. Still, "I am Shelby Lynne" is the best thing she has done. Though, I LOVED the cover of "Love, Shelby." She is so much hotter as a blond than redhead.

Song - Jewish Princess

I want a nasty little Jewish princess
With long phony nails and a hairdo that rinses
A horny little Jewish princess
With a garlic aroma that could level Tacoma
Lonely inside
Well, she can swallow my pride

I want a hairy little Jewish princess
With a brand new nose, who knows where it goes
I want a steamy little Jewish princess
With over-worked gums, who squeaks when she cums
I don't want no troll
I just want a Yemenite hole

I want a darling little Jewish princess
Who don't know shit about cooking and is arrogant looking
A vicious little Jewish princess
To specifically happen with a pee-pee thats snappin
All up inside
I just want a princess to ride
Awright, back to the top...everybody twist

I want a funky little Jewish princess
A grinder; a bumper, with a pre-moistened dumper
A brazen little Jewish princess
With titanic tits, and sand-blasted zits
She can even be poor
So long as she does it with four on the floor
(vapor-lock)

I want a dainty little Jewish princess
With a couple of sisters who can raise a few blisters
A fragile little Jewish princess
With Romanian thighs, who weasels and lies
For two or three nights

Won't someone send me a princess who bites
Won't someone send me a princess who bites
Won't someone send me a princess who bites
Won't someone send me a princess who bites

Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress"

I can barely feel the sheets with all these crumbs down in my bed
How can I get to sleep with all this buzzin’ in my head
And who’d have ever thought I’d not complain about a mess
Serves me right I guess, this is what I get
For eatin’ crackers with my gin
And drinkin’ in my Sunday dress

The telephone is by the bottle which is always by my bed
From time to time I give it a rattle to make sure that it’s not dead
I will wait here for your call till I run out of cigarettes
I love to play the part of the damsel in distress
Flickin’ ashes in my coffee
Drinkin’ in my Sunday dress

Well I’ve been on the road to this and I’ve been on the way to this
But who’da thought it’d come to this
Don’t let on you’ve seen me like this
My old transistor’s sounding just as twangy as a Fender
My radiator growls like Elvis after Sunday dinner

I’ve drained my last tequila and I’ve thrown away the blender
I’ve poured out all the wine, from now on nothing but the best
Cognac and Patsy Cline
While drinkin’ in my Sunday dress

Well I’ve been on the road to this and I’ve been on the way to this
I surely ain’t a hypocrite
I’ve had my fun and now I must confess
Our reverend is a kingly soul, repents ‘em on a dime
His bible is not inked in gold, he is not the cheatin’ kind
One Sunday after meetin’ I was in the greetin’ line
He said I’ve seen you from the altar
Gulpin’ down communion wine
Just remember who’s beside you when it’s no business of mine

I have lots of family in Portland Oregon and travel to the Rose City often and the guy who sings that song (from Toto right?) owns a chain of plumbing supply stores there. I bought a spendy Italian pedestal sink and fixture while the guy was performing THAT song during checkout. They have a big stage setup in the back of the main store. Funny....
I think I also saw him once during a parade in Portland...he was riding on an "Africa" themed float.

well in honor of just finding out that my all-time favorite band will reunite after 7 years to play one more show

Bullet in the head- rage against the machine

This time the bullet cold rocked ya
A yellow ribbon instead of a swastika
Nothin' proper about ya propaganda
Fools follow rules when the set commands ya
Said it was blue
When ya blood was red
That's how ya got a bullet blasted through ya head

Blasted through ya head
Blasted through ya head

I give a shout out to the living dead
Who stood and watched as the feds cold centralised
So serene on the screen
You was mesmerised
Cellular phones soundin' a death tone
Corporations cold
Turn ya to stone before ya realise

They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
The sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Yeah
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Run it!

just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Check-a, check-a, check it out
They load the clip in omnicolour
Said they pack the 9, they fire it at prime time
The sleeping gas, every home was like Alcatraz
And mutha fuckas lost their minds

No escape from the mass mind rape
Play it again jack and then rewind the tape
And then play it again and again and again
Until ya mind is locked in
Believin' all the lies that they're tellin' ya
Buyin' all the products that they're sellin' ya
They say jump and ya say how high
Ya brain-dead
Ya gotta fuckin' bullet in ya head

Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high
Yeah
Just victims of the in-house drive-by
They say jump, you say how high

Uggh! Yeah! Yea!

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

Ya standin' in line
Believin' the lies
Ya bowin' down to the flag
Ya gotta bullet in ya head

A bullet in ya head

Ya gotta bullet in ya fuckin' head!

A little Evanescence is in order...

Bring Me to Life

how can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead

all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run

What the hell, while I'm at it...

"Velvet Sky"

Are you lookin' at the moon tonight
You even brave enough to try
To find your strength inside
Change your mind, decide
Cause I fell from the sky
I tried to catch your eye
In a velvet sky
Did you wish upon a fallin' star
Do you know where you are in your life
Are you walkin' in between the lines
I can tell by the look in your eyes
You're hurtin' way down inside
Afraid to leave your pain behind
Never know what you're gonna find
When you look up at the velvet sky
You will finally come alive
Hey Baby
Cause I fell from the sky
I tried to catch your eye
In a velvet sky

Bill Withers "Use Me"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Z4EmHBLGUk

My friends feel it’s their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me
All you want to do is use me
But my answer, yeah to all that use me stuff
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

My brother sit me right down and he talked to me
He told me that I ought not to let you just walk on me
And I’m sure he meant well
Yeah, but when our talk was through
I said, brother, if you only knew
You’d wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up

Sometimes, it’s true
You really do abuse me
You get me in a crowd of high-class people
And then you act real rude to me
But, oh baby, baby, baby, baby,
When you love me, I can’t get enough
I want to spread the news
That if it feels this good getting used
Girl, you just keep on using me
Until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talkin’ ‘bout you usin’ people
It all depends on what you do
It ain’t too bad the way you’re usin’ me
Cause I sure am usin’ you to do the things you do…
…to do the things you do…

Come up to meet you, tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
oh, let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Calling tails
Heads on a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

oh, take me back to the start

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh, and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing our tails
Coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start...

Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision
That was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
Beneath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share...
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.

"Fools," said I, "you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows."
"Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed in the wells of silence.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said: "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls,
And whisper'd in the sound of silence."

Jesus The Missing Years
John Prine

(spoken)
Jesus.... the missing years

It was raining. It was cold
West Bethlehem was no place for a twelve year old
So he packed his bags and he headed out
To find out what the world's about
He went to France. He went to Spain
He found love. He found pain.
He found stores so he started to shop
But he had no money so he got in trouble with a cop
Kids in trouble with the cops
From Israel didn't have no home
So he cut his hair and moved to Rome
It was there he met his Irish bride
And they rented a flat on the lower east side of Rome...
Italy that is
Music publishers, book binders, Bible belters, Money Changers,
Spoon Benders and lots of pretty Italian chicks.

Chorus:
Charley bought some popcorn
Billy bought a car
Someone almost bought the farm
But they didn't go that far
Things shut down at midnight
At least around here they do
Cause we all reside down the block
Inside at ....23 Skidoo.

Wine was flowing so were beers
So Jesus found his missing years
So He went to a dance and said "This don't move me"
He hiked up his pants and he went to a movie
On his thirteenth birthday he saw "Rebel without a Cause"
He went straight on home and invented Santa Claus
Who gave him a gift and he responded in kind
He gave the gift of love and went out of his mind
You see him and the wife wasn't getting along
So he took out his guitar and he wrote a song
Called "The Dove of Love Fell Off the Perch"
But he couldn't get divorced in the Catholic Church
At least not back then anyhow
Jesus was a good guy he didn't need this shit
So he took a pill with a bag of peanuts and
A Coca-Cola and he swallowed it.
He discovered the Beatles
And he recorded with the Stones
Once He even opened up a three-way package
In Southern California for old George Jones

Repeat Chorus:

The years went by like sweet little days
With babies crying pork chops and beaujolais
When he woke up he was seventeen
The world was angry. The world was mean.
Why the man down the street and the kid on the stoop
All agreed that life stank. All the world smelled like poop
Baby poop that is ..the worst kind
So he grew his hair long and threw away his comb
And headed back to Jerusalem to find Mom, Dad and home
But when he got there the cupboard was bare
Except for an old black man with a fishing rod
He said "Whatcha gonna be when you grow up?"
Jesus said "God"
Oh my God, what have I gotten myself into?
I'm a human corkscrew and all my wine is blood
They're gonna kill me Mama. They don't like me Bud.
So Jesus went to Heaven and he went there awful quick
All them people killed him and he wasn't even sick
So come and gather around me my contemporary peers
And I'll tell you all the story of
Jesus...The Missing Years

Repeat Chorus:

We all reside down the block
Inside at ....23 Skidoo.

Blue Oyster Cult--"Godzilla"

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down.
Helpless people on subway trains
Scream "My God" as he looks in on them.
He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town.

Oh no, they say he's got to go—
Go, go, Godzilla . . .
Oh no, there goes Tokyo—
Go, go, Godzilla . . .

Rinji news o moshiagemasu!

Workingman's Blues #2
Words and Music by Bob Dylan

There's an evenin' haze settlin' over the town
Starlight by the edge of the creek
The buyin' power of the proletariat's gone down
Money's gettin' shallow and weak
The place I love best is a sweet memory
It's a new path that we trod
They say low wages are a reality
If we want to compete abroad

My cruel weapons have been put on the shelf
Come sit down on my knee
You are dearer to me than myself
As you yourself can see
I'm listenin' to the steel rails hum
Got both eyes tight shut
Just sitting here trying to keep the hunger from
Creeping it's way into my gut

CHORUS
Meet me at the bottom, don't lag behind
Bring me my boots and shoes
You can hang back or fight your best on the front line
Sing a little bit of these workingman's blues

Now, I'm sailin' on back, ready for the long haul
Tossed by the winds and the seas
I'll drag ‘em all down to hell and I'll stand ‘em at the wall
I'll sell ‘em to their enemies
I'm tryin' to feed my soul with thought
Gonna sleep off the rest of the day
Sometimes no one wants what we got
Sometimes you can't give it away

Now the place is ringed with countless foes
Some of them may be deaf and dumb
No man, no woman knows
The hour that sorrow will come
In the dark I hear the night birds call
I can hear a lover's breath
I sleep in the kitchen with my feet in the hall
Sleep is like a temporary death

(chorus)

Well, they burned my barn, they stole my horse
I can't save a dime
I got to be careful, I don't want to be forced
Into a life of continual crime
I can see for myself that the sun is sinking
How I wish you were here to see
Tell me now, am I wrong in thinking
That you have forgotten me?

Now they worry and they hurry and they fuss and they fret
They waste your nights and days
Them I will forget
But you I'll remember always
Old memories of you to me have clung
You've wounded me with words
Gonna have to straighten out your tongue
It's all true, everything you have heard

(chorus)

In you, my friend, I find no blame
Wanna look in my eyes, please do
No one can ever claim
That I took up arms against you
All across the peaceful sacred fields
They will lay you low
They'll break your horns and slash you with steel
I say it so it must be so

Now I'm down on my luck and I'm black and blue
Gonna give you another chance
I'm all alone and I'm expecting you
To lead me off in a cheerful dance
Got a brand new suit and a brand new wife
I can live on rice and beans
Some people never worked a day in their life
Don't know what work even means

(chorus)

Roxy Music › In Every Dream Home A Heartache

(ferry)

In every dream home a heartache
And every step I take
Takes me further from heaven
Is there a heaven?
I`d like to think so
Standards of living
They´re rising daily
But home oh sweet home
It´s only a saying
From bell push to faucet
In smart town apartment
The cottage is pretty
The main house a palace
Penthouse perfection
But what goes on
What to do there
Better pray there

Open plan living
Bungalow ranch style
All of its comforts
Seem so essential
I bought you mail order
My plain wrapper baby
Your skin is like vinyl
The perfect companion
You float my new pool
De luxe and delightful
Inflatable doll
My role is to serve you
Disposable darling
Can´t throw you away now
Immortal and life size
My breath is inside you
I´ll dress you up daily
And keep you till death sighs
Inflatable doll
Lover ungrateful
I blew up your body
But you blew my mind

Oh those heartaches
Dreamhome heartaches

At midnight all the agents
and the superhuman crew
Come out and round up everyone
that knows more than they do
And they bring them to the factories
where the heart attack machine
Is strapped across their shoulders
and then the kerosine
Is brought down from the castles
by insurance men who go
Check to see that nobody is escaping to

NEIL YOUNG LYRICS

"Rockin' In The Free World"

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Thanks for bumping this Joe. This is my favorite song, but I can't find a decent version to put in the jukebox. I am adding the English version, but quite frankly have never heard it sung in English and love the Spanish better.

La Contestacion

A poco no esta
duro pa ti
Pa que sigues asi
Si aqui esto yo

Nunca te hacer
sentido que ya
parece el final
Pues fijate en mí
Encontraras Contestacion

Fijate en ti
Muy dentro de ti
Tu vas a encontrarme a mi
Para darte amor

Que evita, que no sientes
Cuando te tengo cerca de mi
Yo quiero acerte bien
Quiero apretarte mas
Yo quiero que sepas tu

Que cuando estas cerca de mi
Ya no tienes que llorar
Porque yo estaré alli
Para darte en mi amor

Que evita, que no sientes
Cuando te tengo cerca de mi
Yo quiero acerte bien
Quiero apretarte mas
Yo quiero que sepas tu

Cuando estas cerca de mi
Ya no tienes que llorar
Porque yo estaré alli
Para darte en mi amor

The English:

Has it even been so hard on you
To carry on baby I'm here for you
Has it ever felt like it's the end
Well just look at me again and you will surely find
The answer to everything
If you take a look inside yourself
You will surely find me there
To comfort you
Baby can you feel it
When I'm holding you close to me
I wanna hold you tight and treat you right
Baby I just want you to know
When you're with me
You will never need to cry
Cause I'll be by your side
To give all my love to you
