Mariucci joins NFL Network as analyst

(July 24, 2006) -- Former head coach Steve Mariucci has joined NFL Network as an analyst.

Mariucci, a 28-year coaching veteran, served as an analyst for the NFL Total Access Super Bowl XL pregame show in Detroit. In his new role, he will offer insight, analysis and a look inside the Xs-and-Os on NFL Total Access and the new NFL GameDay 90-minute wrap-up show each NFL Sunday at 11:30 p.m. ET. Mariucci will also appear on NFL Total Access each Monday night of the regular season, on the pregame show for each of NFL Network's eight games in the "Run Up to the Playoffs" package, and at numerous other events including Hall of Fame weekend, playoff games, Super Bowl XLI and the 2007 Scouting Combine.

"Steve brings to NFL Network the animated, conversant style he brought to NFL Films coverage of his teams each week," said NFL Network President & CEO Steve Bornstein. "We hope the studio is big enough to contain his enthusiasm."

In nine seasons as an NFL head coach, Mariucci posted a 75-71 record. With the San Francisco 49ers (1997-2002), he earned four playoff berths in six seasons, captured two NFC West titles and advanced to the 1997 NFC Championship Game. He was head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2003-05 and served as head coach at the University of California at Berkeley in 1996.

Previously, he was quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers from 1992-95, the first four years in Brett Favre 's Packers career. Favre threw for 14,825 yards and 108 touchdowns in those four seasons, earning 1995 AP NFL MVP honors and leading the Packers to the 1995 NFC Championship Game. Prior to his Packers tenure, Mariucci spent 10 years as an assistant coach on the college and professional levels.

NFL GameDay will take fans on a 360-degree, 90-minute spin around the league at 11:30 p.m. ET each NFL Sunday, putting the exclamation point on the day's action. Hosted by Rich Eisen, NFL GameDay will be the best and most extensive NFL highlights show on television with unlimited use of highlights of all Sunday games plus post-game press conferences, interviews and analysis. GameDay will run in a continuous loop on NFL Network with the final airing at 1:30 p.m. ET on Mondays.

NFL Total Access, NFL Network's signature show, is the football show of record. NFLTA is uniquely structured to see the game through the participants' eyes, airing at 7 p.m. ET every Monday through Friday. Covering all 32 teams, NFL Total Access features interviews with players, coaches and other key league personnel. Using the most advanced technology, NFL Total Access has the ability to go live to any NFL team headquarters at any time.

In 2006, NFL Network will air 169 football games, including eight regular season NFL games, 52 preseason games, 75 game re-airs, 31 NFL Europe League contests, the Insight Bowl, Bowl game in Houston and the Senior Bowl.

NFL Network airs seven days a week, 24 hours a day on a year-round basis and is the first television network fully dedicated to the NFL and the sport of football.
