Anyone know if insurance collected for a career ending injury needs to be repaid if a player returns 15 years later? Hypothetically speaking that is.

Who they gonna sign?

Probably not a WR, since we have 5 on the roster (Ealy, Driver, James, Jennings, Nelson), Nelson is back playing, and Finley looks to return this week. That's enough guys who can catch the ball.

My guess is that we might try to sign an OL off of somebody else's PS (I would have grabbed Lydon Murtha from Detroit, but the Dolphins already did that), as we have no OL on our PS and though we have eight OL on our roster, both Clifton and Tauscher are unreliable due to age and injuries, and the OL really needs help. I'll have to look at the PSs of other NFL teams to see if there's anybody who might be able to help. I could also see maybe a safety from somebody else's PS.

Looking through that (very long) list above, I'd have to say my two favorite prospects (though I haven't scouted these guys recently) would be Cedric Peerman (the speedy RB out of Virginia) or Alex Boone (the troubled OT out of Ohio State).

Peerman would offer the "speed back, threat to break it every time he gets in the open field" that we currently lack from our three, mostly indistinguishable, running backs. But I don't know if we'd want 7 people on the roster between RB and FB.

Boone has the talent to be a top LT, and was once on a trajectory to be one of the top picks in the draft, but then developed some serious problems with alcoholism and his play and his draft stock suffered precipitously. He's not what we would call "Packer People" but he could be great, Thompson has looked to give guys a second chance before (e.g. Koren Robinson), and Wisconsin probably has enough AA meetings to keep him afloat.

Wisconsin also has enough alcohol to keep him afloat. Get it? Float? In a liquid? And alcohol's a liquid? Ha! I kill me.

I would love it if TT took a chance on Alex Boone. He's a solid OT, he's had some significant character issues but he can play football. I looked at this guy a bit at draft time, and if I remember correctly (don't want to go look it up again) he was a 4 year starter at OT for OSU, twice earning all Big Ten honors at the position. If he could clean up his act off the field he could be a real star on it.

Then again, I don't trust Campen is the guy that could get production out of him equal to his talent. I'm still stuck on the issues at the coaching level, and I'm not sure all the talent in the world on the OL would do us a lick of good. They need to get a legit position coach for that group. Someone who not only knows how to do it, but also knows how to teach it. And I don't think Campen is that guy.

Atl has an OL on their PS I had my eye on pre-draft as a perfect fit in GB. ZBS athleticism, but bigger than typical (like Oher, Lang, Unger, and Vollmer were as well). Jose Valdez (http://www.atlantafalcons.com/People/Players/Practice_Squad/Jose_Valdez.aspx), a T/G from Arkansas. Went to HS at St Francis in Milwaukee.

If Phil Trautwein or Jason Watkins are floating around available, they wouldn't be too bad of pickups either. (edit - Just looked, Trautwein is on the Rams active roster, Watkins plays in the UFL. If Watkins could be added to the PS after the UFL season, I'd surely make that move).

thought I saw where Cleveland signed Jake Allen off waivers. So did we cut Jake to make room for Brohm who signed with Buffalo, causing us to lose Allen?

We should sign a lineman off the Vikings PS just to piss them off.

My vote goes to either:

Alex Boone (huge OT - 6'7" 330lb)

or

Greg Eslinger (Outland Trophy winner senior year at Minnesota)

I don't have an opinion, but looking at the distribution of positions on various team's PS's was interesting.

Most teams have the max 8 players, a few have 7 (one spot in transition, I expect) but the Texans had 5? PS players are cheap insurance, why don't they fill it up???

Here's a breakdown of some of the positions:
WR: 30 teams had a WR on the PS, many had multiple. 45 total WR's
LB: Another popular position, with 35 total. Cardinals have 4 on their squad!
TE: 19 teams carried a TE, 20 TE's total
Safety: only 7 safeties on PS's
Center: suprised me a little, there were 9 centers. More than I would've thought
DT: quite a few at first glace, 21. But 3 teams carried 2, and one (saints) had 4. So only 11 DT's outside of those teams.
QB: also lower than I would've thought - 9 QB's on PS's, with one team (Titans) having 2. Also interesting is that of the 8 teams carrying a QB on their practice squad, 6 had 2 QB's on their team roster. So it seems that stashing the 3rd QB on the practice squad is not as uncommon as thought.

A couple of former Packers out there. Lasanah is on Detroit's PS, Sean Bodiford is on the Raider's.
