We won last week so I guess I get to try and keep the streak alive.

If our defense plays anything like last week, I don't see a problem getting enough points to win this game. Even with how good San Frans de has been playing. We may even get a score from our defense this week :D

Ironic that after many failed attempt this year Gex will start up the game day thread winning streak

Bretsky -guaranteed -4 before the Cowboyz game last week and for good karma offer another nail on the coffin guarantee soon :!:

You can take this one to the bank. Pack are gonna win by way more than a TD as the line suggests (6.5). I'm not high on this Pack team but after reading about the strengths of SF and knowing Clements is out, I say we carve them up.

I suspect Chuck will cover VD all day like a glove. If Crabtree doesn't beat us (which good happen, he's a stud), we've got a win. 34 - 17 Packers

No Ahman Green, but no Takeo Spikes either.

From PFT.com
San Francisco linebacker Takeo Spikes and Green Bay running back Ahman Green are among the players who were listed as questionable but will not play today.

In addition to Spikes, the 49ers' inactives are third quarterback Nate Davis, defensive backs Keith Smith and Nate Clements, center Cody Wallace, tackle Joe Staley, wide receiver Brandon Jones and defensive end Ricky Jean-Francois

In addition to Green, the Packers' inactives are wide receiver Biren Ealy, defensive back Matt Giordano, tackles Breno Giacomini and Allen Barbre, defensive end Mike Montgomery and linebacker Jeremy Thompson.

Some insights:

Niners have only recorded 17 sacks to date - with their OLBs only getting 3.5. Keep an eye out for NT Aubrayo Franklin - he's quitely having a decent season. If Wells is out (and EDS in) - it'll be a long game.

Their D is ranked #2 (behind the Packers). They are tough against the run but play soft/prevent in the pass - with a weak safety. They've held the likes of Peyton Manning without a TD pass but are inconsistent (only allowing 9 all year).

Don't expect special teams to decide this game - both clubs are pretty awful in this category.

Similar keys as last few weeks:
1. Keep AR upright -- more max protect, shifts, rolls... we've made every team look like rockstars with pressure (even the lowly Bucs)
2. Attack through the air but keep them honest with Grant/Green
3. Get after Smith and spy either Gore or Davis (depending on who's having issues with coverage)
4. Don't let down after Cowboys -- they have to keep the defensive intensity and play like their asses are on the line (because they are all the time).

Since there's a short week and the Lions, it's hard to look past this game. It's huge for conference record and playoff position. I see a low scoring affair coming down to the 4th Q with Crosby needing some clutch kicks (he's only missed one inside 49 yards).

Wow, I didn't realize their D was ranked #2. I thought they were middle of the road. Could turn out to be a tougher game than I thought.

Good posts. I could see it coming down to Crosby too, with this newly discovered knowledge.

Like the cat-mouse by M3. Niners don't think the Pack will run - so run it!

I wished we had the 2nd down call back - why give it to Bjack? Niners are stout in pass TD D. Take a short route and run for 1st and goal...

Glad to see Finley back in action and Pickett blowing up that play. Pack overplayed the Gore run and Hawk couldn't shed the block.

Will we see more passing this series?

Stumped? Okay, both men have reportedly run sub-4.2 second 40-yard dashes and both honed their ‘sickening ’ speed under Coach Tom Shaw at his facility in New Orleans.

No doubt both Deion and Michael Vick possess inordinate amounts of athletic talent and ability—but to run blistering sub-4.2-second 40-yard times, you need more than talent: you need a top coach. Together, Sanders, Vick and Shaw have changed the NFL ’s definition of speed—in fact, the NFL seems so obsessed with speed demons like Sanders and Vick that they may as well rename it the NSL—National Speed League.

Did you not watch this guy in college or the plays he made for the falcons?

In a performance that left his coaches and teammates shaking their heads, quarterback Michael Vick usurped Davis as Tech's fastest player. He recorded an eye-popping 4.25 40 time at the Hokies' annual timing day held March 3rd on the indoor track at Rector Fieldhouse. The day served as part of testing week for Tech's players, who have been working out very hard since the national championship game in early January.

http://www.hokiesports.com/huddler/archive/0382000aaa.html

Excerpt from an ESPN article Tuesday May 8, 2001:

"At a rookie mini-camp last weekend, Vick ran the 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds, the fastest time among the 19 draft picks and college free agents at the mandatory camp."

why is bush even still on this team?

I feel like I say that every week. And then the response is - he's good on special teams. And my natural response is - when?

Did we fill that roster spot? Why not at least go for Smith again and let them compete? Or are we waiting for a decent Olineman to magically appear?

You guys still want Hawk over Davis? This guy would be one of the best TEs in the league if he had a damn QB that could get him the ball. Finley is good and all but he doesnt have the 4.3 speed.

why is bush even still on this team?

did you hear the announcer after the catch? "Not that Bush isn't a good secondary man" He doesn't have a clew, obviously.

What happened at the end there - did Al jump too soon or was there a little fist in the back? Doesn't happen too often.

Need a nice sustained response TD. Don't let them earn any momentum.

It's obvious they have to pass to get back into it... just have to stop it.

great push-off on crabtree. He looked like a veteran on that. Dont rooks usually get called for that? He will be a good one.
