View Full Version : Hawk ends holdout

Harlan Huckleby

I was shocked to read that AJ Hawk did not practice last night, adding him to the historical list of Packer players who have held out of training camp. Back in Lombardi's day, Hawk and his me-first attitude would have been shipped out of town.

Very funny and I will step up as the first homer here to say, I earned that....

Harlan Huckleby

And what's more, Lombardi would have made that punk get a haircut.

You sound like George Costanza. He wanted to date a woman who had flowing hair.

Well, of course I started this thread to tease all the jock sniffers (like yourself, Ballhawk) who have made Hawk out to be some sort of God before he even got in GB, hell, before he was even drafted!

Very soon you will have your revenge, tho, he will probably be as good as advertised.

Hawk wasn't a holdout. A holdout is for guys who have a contract and refuse to play.

You're an Idiot. Like the guy above me said a holdout is someone who refuses to play because of their contract. The reason he didn't practice last night is because they were still working on his contract.

PS: Hawk's hair is beautiful.

Harlan wasn't ripping Hawk, WPP42, he was taking a stab at posters like me that feel "hold outs" need to be severely dealt with.

Hawk missed an entire practice, because the deal wasn't signed. Technically a hold out. But not even HH really believes this was a hold out.

BAD NEWS for the foe. Soon all linebacker's will deep inside, want long flowing hair. We'll see a line of HAWK hair products surface shortly. The brand new HAWK PRO HAIR- Support Conditioner

Woodbuck, permission to steal this line for a signature? Haven't seen it put better in a long time.

And I second Harvey's admonition that draft picks CANNOT hold out, as they have no contractual obligation to report. Even profootballtalk had this wrong on their usually precise site

And I am longing for the day when people will be more concerned in their signatures about first downs allowed than total number of tackles. Show me a team that has league leaders in tackles and I will show you a mediocre defense. Show me a team that allows the fewest first downs, I will show you the next NFC champs.

I bet ya anything that Hawk was pissed at his agent who was probably assuring him over and over again that he would have the deal done by the start of camp. But, Hawkcouldn't have showed upfor practice . I mean, look what happened to LeCharles Bentley in Cleveland. If Hawk would have came to practice and had a serious injury, he would have been "up shit creek without a wooden device to help propel him through the muck" (or something like that). In other words, he was "between a rock and a not so soft place", I mean, really, "his hands were placed together tightly with a rope-like substrate", if you get my drift.

Gotta side with the others on this one HH. I think the mainstream media has it all wrong on this one. You can't hold out if you aren't even on the friggen team.

Well, when you're drafted by a team, you are bound to that team.

Here's a formal definition: "a negotiator who hopes to gain concessions by refusing to come to terms" (I found similar definitions by googling) By this definition, a person still in process of negotiating a contract fits exactly.

It really is a case of usage. And far as I can see on the web, "holdout" is used for players with and without contracts. Reggie Bush was referred to as a "holdout" in most of the headlines before he signed.

Actually you can sit out without ever signing and the team loses your rights.

Is there an English teacher in the house?

I am going to old school it. Long before there was free agency, players would routinely miss large portions of training camp because of injury, retirement, etc. They were seeking sometimes to save themsleves the rigors of two-a-days or they might have been seeking an ungraded contract. Keith Jackson was the most recent, that comes to mind, who would always miss a week or two of camp while under contract. I think Ruettgers was known for this as well.

They were always referred to hold outs.

Common usage might use the same term for Jackson as for Hawk and Bush. I think it misleading.

If the company I am thinking of joining and I don't have an agreement for compensation, then I am not going to work.

Sit out works for me.
