Much as I like what Clay has done, the numbers Cushing put up are pretty hard to argue against. He earned the award.

Both Matthews and Cushing were rumored to have failed steroids tests at one time or another.

I'm on my phone right now so it's hard to navigate around but a google search for "Brian Cushing steroids" should take you to a blog post (black page background) that outlines the history of his suspected steroid use with "timeline pictures" ... then there's a couple comments or so from anonymous former teammates and stuff. Pretty interesting if you're into that sorta stuff :)

Called that one; Cushing was the right choice. I thought Matthews could have finished second

Matthews, Cushing, Raji and a couple others were reported to have failed steroids tests at the combine. The report was false. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2009/04/65871287/1

Cushing, CMII, & Malaluega?

Figgitaboutit. The all time best 3 lb's to come out of college and start their first year in the NFL.

We may have got the best one, but those other two kids are really good too.

I was thinking about exactly this while I was stuck in traffic today, KY... trying to think of a better overall group of backers. My memory, as you guys might know, ain't too hot.

But if these guys all continue on their current projections I think it can be considered the best. That's a big IF.

Our guy? I'm pretty damn sure about!

i'm not one to speculate, but if we are compairing photos of players coming into college and leaving college, look at brian orakpo in the 2:03 mark of this video clip compared to any other shot of him in the video...

Another thing to consider is that SC had Rivers the year before. Keith went #1 to the Bengals last season and also was a finished product.

That's 4 pro LB's in the same program. Carroll really brings 'em in at
SC.

Kaluka Maiava isn't half bad either considering he was the fourth LBer picked out of USC this year. Playing for the Browns can't help the stats either.

Maybe he gets better steroids at USC.
