If anyone can come back from an injury like this at his age, it's Al Harris. He's probably the best conditioned athlete on the team.

Check out this video of his workout regimen from a year ago. He looks like some body out of a Bowflex commercial. No wonder he's so good at jamming WR's at the line of scrimmage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCOoADWuezY

Just a quick rant - there are so many fans who are effin' idiots out there. Here's a bit from some fool commenting on the JSO site upon free agency and who will or won't be back with the Pack next year:

"I really like Harris and Kampman, but it seems like their time with the
Pack has come to an end. Harris is just breaking down"

Harris is breaking down? What? He had one injury, a serious one, but now he's breaking down? To me, he's been one of the more durable players the Packers have had, but now he's "breaking down"?

I'll add to that a paraphrase of another dumb comment made about free agency: this JSO poster said that free agency is not risky because the players all have track records and known personalities - if a GM knows what he's doing, it's not risky.

Yeah, right.

Yeah, right.

The addition of Joe Johnson was hailed as a genius move. The sports media in Wisconsin likened him to a better version of Vonnie Holiday.

That single move, compounded by the drafting of Jamaal Reynolds, set the franchise back considerably as we tried time and again to fix problems caused by the cap money wasted, the draft picks wasted on reaches on the D line, and the unwise $ spent on Cletidius Hunt.

Free Agents may function well in the machine that is their team, but it is very, very difficult to know for sure if that particular part will fit in your machine until after it's been paid for. And the last time I checked there is a no return policy in NFL free agency.

Well put. Johnson was coming off a big season, with no injury history of note. He, Jamal and Cletidius were going to be our DL in '02. Having Torrence Marshall starting at LB didn't help, iirc.

Although, wasn't that also the year Gbaja-Biamila came into his own? I always thought getting him where we did offset the price we paid for Reynolds.

edit: Hunt played 85 games as a Packer??? Wow.

I'd rather break my legs 3 times before having a torl ACL...

I have broken my wrist and broken my ankle (both in young teenage years) and all I had to do was wait a couple of months and I was back to normal...

I'm still young but the knee injuries look so damn painful / hard to get back to normal ...

Any move in the NFL is risky, whether or not they are a free agent. Until "predicting the future" becomes a known commodity it will always stay risky.

That's why they talk about "leveraged risk".

Great stuff. I think all of Packer Nation is going to be rooting for him to have a hell of a season next year. He deserves it. Like Manuel said in the video, he is one of the hardest working players in the NFL, so I hope it pays off.

I can't imagine it NOT working out with his attitude and work ethic. Go Alshinard, go.

Harris' future in doubt

The status of Green Bay Packers cornerback Al Harris might not be grabbing a whole lot of attention during the offseason, but it's worth a closer look, especially with the draft approaching. When healthy, Harris is among the very best players at his position. But since suffering a severe knee injury last season, Harris' health has been up in the air.

At last month's NFL Annual Meeting, Packers coach Mike McCarthy referred to it as a "real serious injury." He reported that the 35-year-old Harris was doing movement drills, "and he feels he's really making progress, and we'll just continue to watch that and see how he responds." We might very well get a good indication of the Packers' response in the draft.

Well obviously Harris's longterm future is in doubts, but at 35 it was in doubts anyways. His rehab looks to be going extremely well. I fully expect yet another solid season from Harris this year, and assuming we make the playoffs he definitely could help with the secondary issues we had last year.

i was thinking the same thing, although i highly doubt that Al had control of the tuner. His rastafarian hat and hair makes me think Marley is on hit ipod.

It honestly wouldn't shock me if Al was our best DB this year. Woodson and Collins included. Gotta love the dedication.

It also wouldn't shock me if he was out of the NFL this year. But I get your point.

That WOULD shock me. Him losing a step wouldn't, but he looks like he'll be ready to go based on those videos, so being out of the NFL would shock me. Even if he reinjures the knee, I wouldn't bet against Al Harris playing more good football.

It's really hard to ever bet against Harris. His workouts are extreme, and he takes such good care of his body it's hard to imagine him not being able to perform. I mean, they were even talking in some of the videos how surprised they were with Harris on his recovery. If there is any player that can come back and perform after that injury, my money would be on Harris.
