The author makes a good point. Whoever is in charge of designing this alternate uniform had better do a good job, and then it better be something we only wear once a year.

Any reliable word out there in the press about the possibility of bringing back leather helmits?

It is the gold pants. Why don't they try green?

didn't they remove a couple stripes from the jersey sleeve a few years back? maybe they are bringing back the 5 striped sleeve as the alternate jersey?

I think the gold looks great with the green. I just don't like the white. The colors is just too light for me. But I'm think I'm in the minority on this one.

The gentleman who runs http://packersuniforms.com did the design I believe. And it was for this contest at Uni Watch (http://www.uniwatchblog.com/2010/03/07/these-go-to-eleven/). The entrant is Chance Michaels and his design had the website as a watermark on it.

1) I like the striped sleeves. I wish they would bring back the 5 stripe sleeves in which they last won the SuperBowl.

http://chancemichaels.tripod.com/packers_images/1993_white_MNjersey.jpg

2) The 1929 uniform is illegal in todays NFL.
http://images.packers.com/pg/mcnally_johnny/photo2.jpg

So they will be wearing something designed to resemble it.

http://media.jsonline.com/images/660*488/unis31210.jpg

3) They won't waste the throwback on just any team. My guess it will be on worn on the Sunday Night Football game against the Bears (There is always a Sunday Night game against the Bears).

4) Remember Curly Lambeau was a Notre Dame fan and the Packer Blue and Gold always looked somewhat similar to whatever Notre Dame was wearing. Vince Lombardi had the uniform changed to Green and Gold.

Gunakor

They should bring out the local pee-wee players to play a short exhibition at halftime, where for the only time in their entire lives they can say they played at Lambeau in snazzier jerseys than the Packers wore that day.

For the record, I'm completely against alternate jerseys. I like the Green and Gold jersey that has become a fixture in Packerland. I didn't like the throwbacks they wore in the mid 90's and I don't like these. I'm sure it's because I grew up a fan after the Packers had retired these ugly things, but that's how I feel.

red
03-13-2010, 07:21 AM
ugh

ok, those are really ugly IMO

i like the color of the helmets and pants, and i like the blue with it, but the mustard yellow with the gold just looks horrible

same thing made the throwbacks from years back look so ugly. you can't have 2 different shades of yellow in the same uniform IMO

and i'm not digging the big circle

these are alternate uniforms that they plan to wear twice a year, not just a one time throwback jersey. you have to make it look decent, not just old and outdated

i think theres a good reason why they only wore them for one year, and why the circle was the size it was. it looks good small, it looks stupid big

I like the throwback jerseys. So that makes one of us.

I like 'em. They don't look as good as today's uni's, but they celebrate the beginning of the unequalled Packer championship tradition. There are definitely a ton of throwbacks that are far worse IMO.

Also, just a correction to your last point Cheez, Gene Ronzani officially changed the Packer jerseys to to green and gold in 1950 when he succeeded Lambeau. Lombardi did transform them more or less into the classic look they have basically maintained for the last 50 years since.

Actually, actually, every coach after Lambeau and before Lombardi altered the Packer uni.

Lisle Blackbourn went BACK to blue.

Blackbourn was a crabby, nutty, old guy who thought Navy Blue looked more "business-like" or some such bullshit.

Quote on

Four years later, new head coach Lisle Blackbourn decided to clear the slate and brought back navy as the Packers' primary color. His preferred uniform was a navy jersey with dark gold numbers and sleeve stripes, dark gold helmets and pants with single navy stripe.

Quote off

I attended my first Packer game as an 8 year old kid. '57 in Milwaukee. The Pack ran on the field in really sharp uniforms. Blue jerseys, gold pants and gold helmets with a red stripe!?!. Why the helmet had a red stripe is unknown to man at this time.

I asked my dad, "I thought the Green Bay Packers wore green"?

"So did I" he replied with a laugh.

It was the Pack vs the 9ers, both teams looked fantastic with their gold helmets. The color of the jersey wasn't really Navy Blue. It was a really cool bluish green, mostly blue with a green tint to it. It was very neat. whether it should be retro-ed or not, I dunno. Those Uni's are much cooler than this retro of the '29 uniform.

I'll post it, if I can figure out how to post an image off my hard drive.[/img]

KY, if you can, email the photo or image to me (I think the email link will appear at the bottom of this post) and I will get it posted.

If you feel adventurous, you could sign up for an account at either:

Either will help you upload the file and then give you a link to post here. PM me if none of that helps.

#52 in that picture is Champ Seibold. Champ was one of my friends dad. He was a boy scout leader and used to tell some fantastic stories about the Lambeau Packers.

Haven't seen it yet, KY, but I will keep my eyes peeled.

Great story about your friend's Dad. The closest I can come to that is that my father knew (or went to the same school with) Mike Adamle, the NBC football announcer (later American Gladiator's announcer). While I was impressed he knew a former NFL player and current announcer, my father was more impressed that Mike's father Tony, was a football player for the Browns in the 40s and 50s.
