View Full Version : A Little Help, Please?

Fellow Rats :
First of all, I know quite well that this post belongs in the Romper Room, but I beg your indulgence (as a longtime Rat) just this once as an injustice is being done, and I'd like to ask for your help.
My son, Joe, is in a photo contest, where site visitors can vote for the photo collections they like. He's pretty good (I think) - and a real stand-up kid (a Packer person) to boot. He always plays fairly - and it breaks my heart to see him getting jobbed.
He was doing really great in this contest -until today. Someone has -all today - entered a ton of poor votes to bring him down from a 4.8 rating to a 4.4.
I know how this is happening - and I have a pretty good idea who is doing it, and it's just not right.
Anyway, if you would like to help, PLEASE visit the site :
http://www.artistswanted.org/kleerp

If you like his photos, please give him a '5' STAR rating (stars at bottom of photo).

(By the way, if you check out some of the other artists' contributions, you should also be able to quickly figure out who is trying to 'fix' the contest).

Anyway, I apologize again for posting here amid all things Packer - but I know what kind of folks you are, and think you might just be inclined to get a playing field a little more even.
Thanks!

Yes, I do.
I will wash your car, try to be more polite, and work on Justin Harrel's back.

Those pictures are stunning Shadow. I gave him a 5.

I know you know this but I hope your son doesn't fret over the questionable outcome of a flawed contest over which he has no control. Your son can take great satisfaction from knowing he's a very talented guy, and that's more lasting and important than any monetary award that he may get cheated out of.

Talent like that doesn't go unnoticed for too long. Cream always rises. I'm sure he won't be discouraged from continuing to pursue his passion regardless of the outcome of this contest.

Thanks for the kind words, Vince - and the vote. But you know, as a dad, you rail against the injustices this world offers when they come down on your kid's head - although when they happen to you - personally - it's no longer that much of a big deal.

I've had plenty of injustice done in my life lately, so I am more than happy to help anyone else out who has had wrong done to them. 5 stars...PLUS, they are worth the 5 stars...wow!

Fellow rats, don't forget to vote single stars to the porn chick. (not even good porn, i might add.)

bring em down!!!!

As I said, something is fishy.
The porn queen from Israel is CURIOUSLY:
a. the only entry with an absolutely bloated count
b. the only artist whose rating did not take a sudden plummet today.

I sure small a rat (and not a good, upstanding PACKER rat!)
Her site is : http://www.artistswanted.org/roniriver2

Judge for yourself.
I would only ask a level playing field.

Well, she must have the Vikings or Bears fans stuffing the ballot box for her.
But she aint got the RATS!!!!!

Personally, I think she had all her buddies vote down anyone who had a better rating than her.

heres her web site

http://www.flickr.com/photos/roniriver/

she's a media whore. she has her stuff on flicker and she's on twitter asking everyone to vote for her multiple times

i would think that a contest such as this one with a reward as great as this one, would use something a little bit better then a popularity contest to judge the winner

its clear who has talent and who just takes naked pictures of herself in the mirror like millions of other girls

You guys are the best - and your kind support reminds me why Packer fans are special.

Vote a 5 star if you can (and only if you like his stuff, of course)

I'll vote twice a day at work and home.

To be fair, I should vote for every great artist there, but I don't have time to do that, so I'll vote for the great one I've seen and against the porn girl who is ruining this great opportunity for people like your son.

Those pictures were awesome, Shadow. The support you're giving your son is really inspiring too!

Enough. You know what he really wants.

I liked the photos a lot, I'm a big fan of Chicago architecture, never been to another city like it.

You may be creating a monster with the ego-boosting. He'll be wearing a berret at thanksgiving dinner, and changing his name to unpronounceable symbols.

Done, but Shadow, shouldn't you or your son be informing the administrator of the competition about this? I fear that even the good efforts of Rat Nation may not be sufficient to defeat this nastieness.

They had to have known how an internet popularity contest would play out. There's benefits and drawbacks to these things, but unfortunately it usually comes down to who has more "friends" on their social network sites.

On the plus side, Shadow's son is getting a lot of exposure he wouldn't have without the "competition," even if it is just to us bunch of retards.

As an aside, I can't stomach how commercially "counter-culture" that jessefox profile is.

I dashed off an email, but I don't know what good it will do.
Personally, I think a one-vote-per-day-for-one-artist would have been a bit more fair. That way, everyone would compete on a level playing field.

There's the latest :

I appreciate it mucho. I suspect that a contestant or two has instructed friends to downgrade other artists . That stinks, but all I can do is simply ask others to view and decide the merit for themselves.

have to say I like dannyc's stuff. Putting those dancers, something we don't see much (most of us, anyways) in 'normal' settings was a neat innovation <not quite the right word

Thanks for this Shadow, I'm really enjoying a lot of the artist's work.

Shadow, I just visited the site again - and was denied making a 5 star
rating!!! After being able to rate only 2 stars, a box came into view saying I
was allowed only that much for next 24 hours - - what ?? !!! I'll be going back again, is there's a deadline.... ?
Awesome work that young man does ! : ) You should be very proud of him.

Ok, boys, due to flack from the contest, it's time to ask you to pull back. As you know, it was my intention to have you view the contest and make your own choices on the worthiness of the work displayed. I certainly can't make anyone's mind up for them, and I didn't try.
Now, apparently there is a bit of a firestorm raging, complete with hurt feelings on the part of some contestants. I am still not sure what the problem is, but out of deference to my son's wishes, I guess I am asking that you consider the contest closed.
Again, it was simply my intention to bring the contest to your attention, ask you to visit the site, and judge the work for yourselves.
Thanks for your participation - I'm glad so many of you enjoyed viewing the fine work.
