I'm going back to Vegas in a couple of days for a week... I wanna put a prop bet on a couple teams to win the superbowl...

Who would you have your money on???

I'm thinking ....

Packers / Saints - NFC

Ravens / Jets - AFC

I know the colts / chargers are probably favored to win the AFC but I have a funny feeling about the two AFC teams I listed above... Who would you put? Maybe i'll do a packerrats prop bet

Potential Teams:

Indianapolis 13/2
Dallas 8/1
New Orleans 8/1
San Diego 17/2
New England 9/1
Green Bay 19/2
N.Y. Jets 10/1
Minnesota 11/1
Ravens 14/1

I always believe that barring some big personnel changes you have to go with the axiom of "have to beat the champ to be the champ". So for now I'd say:

NFCC Vikes and Saints
AFCC Colts and Jets
SB Colts and Saints
Saints win.

If I had to change anything there, I might have to remove the Saints as I think the stars were aligned for them last year. I could see Dal or GB in their place. Although I don't think Dal has enough to win SB.

I would not only bet the farm against this scenario repeating, I would bet my neighbor's farm as well.

NFCC: Dallas vs GB
AFCC: NYJ vs Balt
SB: GB vs Balt

I don't see it. Their window is past, and for whatever reason, they missed it. I know they're still a top team, but they're on the downside of their run now, and they're not going to make it happen.

Recent history suggests that in the NFC, the champ will fall. Not since 1992-1994 have the same two teams (49ers, Cowboys) met in consecutive NFC Title Games. Not since 1996-1997 has a team (Packers) won consecutive NFC Titles.

Dallas won't make the conference championship game. It'll likely be the Saints once again, having defeated the Vikings in the divisional round the week before. Dallas probably wins the east, but falls in the WC round to the Vikings who won't win the North this year but will be a very formidable WC opponent.

And it's a complete toss up between the Jets and Colts to face the Ravens in the AFC.

But your SB prediction is spot on. Packers v Ravens, Feb. 6 2011, Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. That's what I'd put my money on anyway.

I have a hard time imagining the Saints in the NFC championship game again. In the free agency era very few teams have been able to make repeat appearances in championship games. I think that shows that, except in cases where one team is really overwhelmingly superior to its competition (eg New England from 2003-07), things really have to fall into place in order to make it through the regular season and playoffs. The Saints' talent does not stand out head and shoulders above GB, Minn, Dallas and Atl, and my gut feeling is that they will have a very difficult time reproducing last year's success.

I said they'd make it, but they won't win. It could be a situation like the Eagles recently. If I remember correctly, they made it to the championship game some 3 or 4 straight times, only winning once and eventually losing in the SB.

You don't have to be the best to be a regular participant in the championship game. 2nd best will do. And I'm pretty confident that the Saints are still 2nd best at the very least. They might have been a little lucky to have won the SB last year, but it wasn't luck that got them into the conference championship game. And no 2 teams in the NFC have improved enough to knock them out of playing in that game again IMO.

I thought the same thing of the NY Giants a few years ago. Barber left, Toomer and Strahan were getting older. I thought it was going to be hard to replace those guys. Strahan ended up having a great year. Jacobs turned out to be fantastic and Burris ended up having the best year of his career at WR.

I happen to agree with you on SD being on the downside, but if Merriman plays out of his mind, Matthews becomes a star at RB and a few stars align, they could end up like the Giants a couple years ago.

That's my take as well. And NO isn't going to have much of a challenge in their div. Dal wins theirs easily as well. Who cares from the west. So really you have Dal, MN, GB, and NO. 3 of those are turf teams with 2 likely to have gaudy win/loss records and home field advantage + bye. MN and NO as a repeat in the NFCC is better than a 50/50 chance. My opinion.

Possibly. But I think they squandered their chance with LT having so many consecutive great years. When Rivers showed up, there was no reason they couldn't get it done - like those years with Favre and Green, except SD had a kick-ass defense as well.

I can't see San Diego going far this year. Their secondary is a mess. Merriman just hasn't been the same player, and I suspect it's not just because it takes more than a year to recover from a serious knee injury. Their left tackle and one of their top two receivers are threatening to hold out for the first half of the season...and AJ Smith has already shown conclusively with Schottenheimer how much he values having control over every aspect of the team, so it would not surprise me a bit to see those holdouts become reality. And, of course, the head coach is Norv Turner. That last detail should be all we need to know.

I don't think Norv Turner is all that bad, I just don't think he is that great either. Honestly, him and MM are really on the same level until they can prove otherwise in the playoffs.
