Morning! It is a perfect day in GB. Warm and sunny. The fields are drenched with dew so the field crew is working to dry them.

Today I will try and focus on the rooks and second year guys.

Stands are already filling up. I was here an hour and a half early and about 50 people were already here. Crazy.

Tim van vooren is in the parking lot unloading stuff from a gray chev impala.

A really cute reporter is in the stands. She is not jen lada for those of u wondering.

755am and the first bit of equipment is coming out.

Tc tip - the packers equip staff sets up flags along the sidelines about 45 min b 4 each practice. These flags are labelled "team," "team run," "pass skelly" and things like that. Put yourself by the team flag, ull c the best action there. The "1 vs 1" flag is also a good spot.

And I saw that bedard said to put yourself on the field that has the cameras (on scissor lifts) at each endzone. That is a great tip. While action occurs on both fields, the cameras are on one for a reason. 90 percent of the good stuff occurs on that field. So far the field closest to the rescke center is the one to b at.

Thanks so much for doing this, gbpackfan! I feel like we're getting the "inside scoop". Do you live in Green Bay? Are you planning on going to some games this year?

gbpackfan
08-01-2010, 08:26 AM
Thank you for the kind words. I do not live in green bay, I just booked a hotel for three days. My wife is up here with me. She loves games but not really into practices. I got her set up with a spa day and shoppong trips! Haha.

As far as games, I haven't missed one in five years. Well, home games. I have green package tics and buy gold games seperate. There is nothing like packer football live. Its a completly diff experience.

Josh sitton gettin hounded by the autograph seekers. Probably a pretty smart move, he's a probowler in the making. First starter to come down to the field. Not only is he big, but he's solid. Seeing him and newhouse next to each other really highlights the diff between starter a practice squad guys.

Shields out here in short sleeves today after wearing long sleeves yesturday. It wasn't cold. I wonder how he'll do in dec and jan in lambeau.

Justin harrell is coming out, in pads. He is not hurt yet!

Brad jones is here but not wearing pads. Good lord are we weak at rolb. It would b unforgiveable not to fix that position asap.

gbpackfan
08-01-2010, 08:48 AM
Clifton and pickett not in pads. I'm guessing this is just to get them some rest. A lot of bulaga today!

Woodson in shorts too.

Barnett not practicing.

Talley not practicing.

Swain out.

Pat lee looks like he is in fantastic shape.

No sign of al harris. He was watching last night.

gbpackfan

Talley and jones are the only two that are injured. I think.

Breno G is your starting rt with tausch out. Not lang!

Bulaga is starter at left t.

Poppinga has a huge band aid on his forehead. Kid likes to hit, ill give him that.

Both o and d just doing walk throughs. Not too exciting.

Chillar comes free and bats down a rods pass.

Bulaga holding his own.

Bad drop by dillon.

Lang not getting much effort across from him. Hard to judge.

Huge gain by finley called back for illegal motion.

Bulaga just blew a blitz pick up. Matthews would have killed rodgers.

Pick by will! Rodgers sailed it over jennings right into wills chest.

Bad false start by porter. Yanked!

Bush on the blitz. Untouched! Would have crushed flynn. Newhouse blew it.

Barbre now at rt.

Great moment just happened. Jail break rush on a rod. He out ran popp to side line and threw it away. Crowd went wild. A rod cam to rail and high fived some fans. When a rod went back to huddle, clay ran after him trying to get a hugh five too. A rod refused. Pretty funny.

Flynn just got picked by bishop! Mr. August strikes again.

Clay just destroyed bulaga. Yikes. A rod would have gotten rocked.

Pickett right in backfield. Nice stop on the run.

A rod to finley along the sideline.

B jack with a great run. What a move.

Bulaga nice block on clay.

Woodson almost had another. Just off his finger tips.

Quarles with a nice catch.

Thanks again, hopefully Lang is just strugging because of his wrist.

gbpackfan
08-01-2010, 11:24 AM
Some final thoughts.

Lang had a rough day. He doesn't look good.

Breno g is playing well. Surprisingly.

Neal looked average today.

This d could b something special if we had a stud rolb. I never get why guys like tt aren't willing to pull the trigger and add a piece to the puzzle that could lead the team to a super bowl. The new guys at olb r nothing special.

Starks needs to get out there. Grant and b jack are locks but the 3rd spot wide open. Lumpkin and porter are just so-so.

Burnett looked great. Calling shit out and making a pick. Bigby who?

Bulaga is gunna b fine. He jhad some rough moments but u just know he's going to pan out. He will refuse to fail.

Sitton may be the best o linemen. He has a great base and a powerful punch.

More to come at 630pm!

Flynn just got picked by bishop! Mr. August strikes again. Hilarious!

Clay just destroyed bulaga. Yikes. A rod would have gotten rocked.
I guess Baby Bulaga's education begins this week. He'll be fine.

Good thread. Also, without seeing our actual starting LB in action (Jones), it's hard to tell how "bad" that position really is. Pop, from what you have been describing, is clearly the backup for that spot. That suites him - he is a "solid" backup LB, just not a starter/every snap type of player. But in spot duty he is okay in the 3-4. he is better suited for the 4-3 though.

So until I see Jones in action, I wont complain much. He is the guy we are relying on getting better after his first year.

Also, isn't matthews the ROLB with Jones being the LOLB. Pretty sure that is how it was last year. Makes sense, since he is beating bulaga, who plays LT, but in the defense that would be the ROLB right?

Or, maybe I have it backwords. I had a rough night.

Yeah, Matthews being the primary rusher, rushes from the QB's blind side, which is the left side of the offense and hence right side of the defense.

Thanks again for the thread. This is what we want to hear. It is a very valuable service you are providing.

Clifton only practices once a day same as last year.
Sounds like the same for Tauscher.
They will both make the roster and don't need too much work. The guys behind them do. Also less chance of wearing them down or risking injury.
Most likely guys coming off injury will get rest.

Sounds like a good practice for Deitrich-Smith and Giacomini.

Not so good for Lang and Harrell.

Bulaga is holding his own against the #1's Jenkins and Matthews getting schooled every so often. If he is doing that early in his rookie camp then he has some real potential to eventually be great.
The good thing is that he is getting a lot of reps against quality players.

Same for Burnett.

Sounds like there is some hope for Neal. My hopes for Wynn need to be more revised.

Thanks a ton gbpackfan!

I have a couple questions:

What is B Jones' injury?

Has jenkins been playing any of that outside linebacker that they talked about during the offseason?

Thanks again

Lurker64

What is B Jones' injury?

Took a helmet in the back yesterday. Has some bruising. Nothing that would keep him out if this was the season, just a painful bruise.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. It really means a lot. I was hoping you would like the updates. Im happy to do it if you guys like reading it. I just know how passionate packer fans are and i love reading the blogs from the reporters but feel they never type enough. And Bedard is so damn smug about everything.

Jenkins has not been standing up. Not in the base, nickle or dime.

Brad Jones is walking around and looks fine. Hell probably just be out a couple days.

Oh, and if I confused ROLB with LOLB I apologize. I know you guys are smart enough to figure out what I am texting. You get the point. We need someone that rush on the side opposite of matthews.

Updates will start again around 530pm.

Thanks again.

gbpackfan mentioned Rodgers giving fives to guys in the stands. I diddn't give him a five, but that was my set of bleachers he was at. I was three rows back, so I was almost in reach.

Last year I was in the stands that the Sitton/Poppinga fight ended up at. It was a night practice. It was intense!
