There's a shot he's put for the year but surgery will determine that.

Atari Bigby will have ankle surgery on Friday
Posted by Mike Florio on August 5, 2010 12:14 PM ET
Packers safety Atari Bigby missed the Packers' entire offseason program as he resisted signing his restricted free agency tender. When he signed the tender last week and showed up, he was asked to take a conditioning test. While doing so, he injured an ankle that previously had been surgically repaired.

As it turns out, he'll be having surgery again. (As best we can tell, the looming surgery was first reported by Greg Bedard of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.)

A league source tells us that, on Friday, Dr. Robert Anderson will perform an arthroscopic procedure on Bigby's ankle. Bigby is expected to miss a few weeks.

A couple of years ago, Bigby was emerging as one of the top young safeties in the game. Since then, injuries have prevented him from fulfilling his potential.

He also looks smart not to have offered Bigby a long-term contact with garaunteed money.

We got lucky with a couple of rookie starters on D last year. Lets hope we do it again.

well most of this board will get their wish and see Burnett in some game action...

I predict Atari will be healthy by week 1/2 - but if Burnett is playing well - the only action Atari will see is special teams or special defensive packages....

Packers SS Atari Bigby will have arthroscopic surgery on his chronic left ankle injury Friday.

Bigby will miss the next few weeks of camp, which should be more than enough time for rookie Morgan Burnett to put a stranglehold on the starting job. Though Bigby should be fine for Week 1, he will return as a third safety.
