Yes.

Theoretically possible, but unlikely for a variety of reasons other than physical capabilities.

Depends. Is she hot?

If she is hot, will she follow to the Favre school for best text messaging practices?

Not on the Packers: too many potential jokes about pad levels.

No unless its at kicker. I do not see it being possible for a woman to be able to withstand the physical pounding of an NFL season.

Also, does she have big tits?

I should have known this crowd wasn't mature enough to handle the question...

Alright, so seriously- It seems to me that the Cardinals tried out a female kicker or punter about 5 years ago, but I can't find anything on it. Maybe I dreamed it, but she wasn't naked, so I think it was real.

No. Not even at kicker

And visa versa - no man could do this:

No - not legitamately - but as a preseason pulicity ploy - I could see it happening.

When it comes to that level of speed/size/strength/toughness - women are inferior.

Does that make me a sexist or can we look at all the rosters in the history of the NFL and draw the obvious conclusions?

I suppose what I was really wondering with this thread is why a woman has not played in the NFL. Is it because of cultural and/or societal norms, or because of the physical make-up required to play?

I have to believe somewhere out there, there are women who physically could compete. And not just in the kicker role.

For example, on ESPN radio the other day they suggested Redskins make the following acquisition in the event Fat Albert couldn't play:

My wife went to law school with a woman who played offensive line for the Indiana Speed. She was freaking huge. At least 6" 3" maybe taller and about 270.

I wouldn't have messed with her.

You can read about the women's semi pro league here:

There was that woman who kicked for Colorado and got harrassed like crazy.

In the mid-70's I played and coached in semi-pro football. I played with a guy who played against a team in Orlando with a female holder...

(Had to google this, but I remembered a lot of it)

Twice in minor league football's long history, women have played on the field with the men. They both were the holder for the kicker. Pat Palinkas has the honor of being the first. She played in one exhibition game with the 1970 Orlando Panthers. She held the ball for her place-kicker husband Steve. Orlando cut Mr. Palinkas, but wanted her to continue to play. However she went home with her husband.
Joann Ramirez was the ballholder for the 1975 Sacramento Statesmen. She played in at least four regular season California League games at 5'2 and 115 lbs. The Statesmen didn't play well going 3 and 5.

Quote off

The guy I played with was a huge, nasty DT and he made every effort to kill her. No wonder she retired.

NFL players are the biggest / strongest / fastest ... so if there's any woman in the top 1% of all three of those categories then yeah, she can probably play in the NFL.

But since there isn't a woman like this (outside of the old German olympic teams) then the answer is 'no'.

I think a lot of mothers would be great in the O-line, and you might need only one.

(Mom breaks huddle and comes to line of scrimmage)

With a stern look and wagging finger at the defense, Mom says; "Don't ANY of you boys dare to touch my kids! And if you steal their football, you will ALL answer to ME!!"

QB drops back and lobs a TD pass to a wide open receiver.

+1

You worded it as well as I wish I could've mission.

I work with a guy who's 6'5", hovers around 310lbs. He's strong, good eye-hand co-ord (beats me at table tennis). He's a damn pain in the ass to play basketball against, as you can imagine.

I have never in my life met a woman that would even be in the same category as this guy for a combination of speed/strength. He's an impressive specimen, but still not NFL material - so, he's not the 99th percentile. Picking one guy I know, and one position, OL, I doubt there are many/any woman in the world that would start over him.

I guess you could argue this isn't a fair comparison, this position in particular wouldn't suit a female, but I think the analogy applies across the board.

Not to sound sexist, but it's pretty much physically impossible for a female to ever sniff a chance at the NFL (excluding kickers). It'll never happen, NFL players are freaks of nature in and of themselves.

no

bodies are different, strength is different

look at speed. olympic women sprinters run the 100 around 11.00 to 11.7 seconds. those are the fastest women in the world. i could run in that range in high school, and i was the third fastest guy on my team, theres a shitload of men faster then me in the world.

there's women out there that could kick the crap out of a lot of men out there, but i don't think theres anyway that a woman could compete with that top tier of male football players

the only exception might be that man-woman thats been in all the news lately
