GREAT matchup to kick off 2010

I firmly belive the game will come down to how well the saint's interior 3 on the oline holds up

after the emotional rush from brees leading "who dat " the vikes might be able to get near the 475 yards they garnered back in January..All Day HAS to be a beast tho to burn clock and keep drew on sideline

so sans the 5 TOs they could get leg up in div race

Hope Favre doesn't play lights out tonight. That would be a good sign that he will not put up the same numbers as he did last year.

Would take a Vikings loss with open arms, but will be good first week of football if we win Sunday. This would be a bonus.

Favre will play mediocre. Probably 2 TDs and 2 INTs or something like that. Saints win.

Anybody betting that the Saints win this game by covering 14 pts is delusional. Favre will play this game to win conservatively.

Translation. The Vikings will try to establish a running game and do so for the first half. Only if that goes nowhere will Brad Childress cut Favre loose, but really folks what does he have to toss to?

Peterson gets 2 TD's and Favre throws for one. Two Longwell FG's gives the Vikings their score. Still too much Saints QB in Drew Brees; and the Saints home crowd will be a big assist and cause confusion for the Vikings OL.

Saints 34 - Vikings 27

Ok, here is the call. Brett throws 2 picks in the game and AP doesn't fumble therefore the apologists have no one else to blame.

I think Woody's right: the Queens play it extremely conservatively tonight. AP left, AP right AP up the middle. Favre's going to be a decoy more than a weapon tonight.

I base this on.....my feelings.

They can run the ball on the Saints (see Peterson's 120+ yard game last year) and they can get after Brees. They held him pretty well in check last year. As long as they hold onto the ball, they'll win.

A small part of me feels sad that I'm so damn happy over that. Very confusing.

LOL..now you know how i felt when I was mad at pack when favre was a jet...had sad joy about 6-10..hahaha

then i evolved and am now back sane

I enjoyed Favre as a Jet. Rooted for him the whole season. Not so much now.

i can dig it; seeing him in purple has ruined alot of people

what if he played well yet the pack beat him 2x and won division? would you still dislike?

Yes.

probably would still dislike. All the side drama, the obvious attempt to get even with Ted weighs heavily on me. I'm entirely tired of the "will he won't he" bullshit.

Finally, I have a real hard time letting go of the allegations with Detroit. That's the ultimate in backstabbing. He made over $100m working for the Packers. Calling the Lions can't be defended in any way.

I am just not sure I could ever truly root for him again.

I still hope he retires as a Packer and goes into all the halls of fame. But it will never happen with the pride I'd have felt before.

Saints look out of rythm. Favre looks like he is really missing Sidney.

Still, the vikes and All Day have been able to run it down their throats. Combine that run game with some PA passes to the TE, and the vikes will be alright until one of hte WRs steps up.

Vikings offense seems to look a tad better than the saints. Much more balanced.

Sure, agree with most of this. The majority of us apologize when "we wake up" from being an idiot. Favre hasn't done so. I understand your analogy about your youth, I have similar experiences, but you're no longer a youth at 40. Less understanding for this at that age.

I totally agree about the entertainment, and your perspective about the true importance in society.

But, when you can admire someone with the character of Donald Driver, do you really need to waste your time cheering for someone like Brett Favre?

I will never ever forget watching Donald's press conference when he signed his $17m extension a few years back. Watching those tears and that look on his face said it all. I try to support ppl like that as I get older. I give less time and energy to ppl like Favre.

But, that's just me.

The Vikings always seem to do a good job of disguising blitzes. A couple times this game, they waited, waited waited. . . . Brees did a hard count, they stayed disciplined and when the snap came, they fooled Brees.

They do that to Rodgers, but more often and more effectively.

The first thing that surprizes me in this match-up so far is that neither of these top four teams 'D's appear sharp.

The second thing is A. Peterson is a beast.

The third thing is Favre can make such lousy plays and still rebound to make plays that keeps his team alive. He just near tossed another pick going to the RH sideline and Percy Harvin.

OK It's now Saints 14 - Vikings 9.

Over/Under on Favre retiring midseason because he no longer has "it"?

Nah. That's when he might get Rice back. He's probably looking forward to it.

do you realize that if we lose to philly and detroit beats the bears, then detroit will be leading the division for the 1st time since 1950. :P

Anybody else think Peterson just doesn't look as explosive as he used to? He's still a tough runner, but not really scary.

Almost all in the second half. I was surprised how easy it was for the Saints to run up the middle--once they chose to do it. Maybe Pat Williams is showing his age.

He's great, but he has a lost a tiny bit of his explosiveness. I thought the Saints were clearly the better team tonight. Thanks to Hartley, the Vikes were in it.

with a Packers win, and if dallas comes out and stinks up the joint, it'll be a great opening weekend.

You realize how tough the NFL is watching that game though. Winning is a battle. At any point the Saints could have lost with one big play.

That's why undefeated is so hard. . . Two huge plays is 14 points and they can happen at any given point.

Favre looks less careful this year. You can see his impatience. Two picks in one game. He only through seven all of last year.

This is the Favre we know. His body will break down again. I hate to see Favre win because I hate to see lying and manipulation pay off. But, since it looks like it might be a tough year for Brett and he won't win anything meaningful. . . . I guess I'm getting over him. I'm ready for him to just go away.

All I can think of at this point is: get 'er done this weekend Pack. We'll likely need every game that we can gain over the Vikings. I thought the Vikings looked pretty bad tonight andthey don't scare me like they did last year and 1998, but they still have enough talent to get to 10-11 wins.

They did look pretty shaky, but it is only week one. Didn't they look bad week one last year too? It's not surprising there would be some rust. We definitely need to win Sunday and gain all the ground we can like you said. I do believe it will be nip and tuck all year for the division.

That's what Vikings fans are saying now, but not this bad. Last year, they were up 34-13 on Cleveland (a bad team) until Cleveland scored a meaningless TD late. And 7 of those 13 points came on a Josh Cribbs punt return. Also, Adrian Peterson had 180 rushing yards and 3 TDs. The thing that was bad about them was their passing offense, and it was more that they didn't need to pass against a bad team with a comfortable lead.

I just some chinks in the armor. The Saints should have won handily. They missed two FGs and had several drops and Brees wasn't in rhythm early. I think Minnesota's OL looks pedestrian, none of their WRs look like #1 WRs, their run defense got gashed up the middle, and there were open receivers. They also have a real problem when Peterson's not in the game--unless Toby Gerhart suddenly looks a lot better than he did in the preseason. The only people that played well in this game, IMHO, was Adrian Peterson, Visanthe Shiancoe, and their LBs.

And the queens were stupid to get away from handing it off to Peterson cuz NO had no answer. I hope MN continues to be stupid. :D

I saw this quote in the JSO about Adrian Peterson's rushing effort in last night's game:

"Adrian Peterson, who rushed for 122 yards and three TDs in the last meeting, rushed for 87 yards on 219 carries against New Orleans' stingy defense."

That means that last night he averaged .3972602 yards per carry.

I can't believe Chilly kept giving AP the ball if that was all he could manage.

But the Vikes sure must have controlled the clock!
