Just something I was thinking about. When I started watching pro football, I knew about the players who were dressed on the field. Then I found out about the Practice Squad, the guys who didn't get to dress out. Then I found out that there were Injured Reserve players, who didn't get to play anymore.
Then later, I found out the players dressed on the sidelines weren't the only players, but just the gameday actives. Then I found out that there was a Non-Football Injury list and a PUP list. When someone acted up, they were suspended, which opened up a roster spot, too. There's also a Military Inactive list, but other than a few service academy grads in make-work commissions, nobody other than Pat Tillman's been on that since Viet Nam.
I thought I knew it all.
Then the Chargers GM placed two players on Roster Exempt list, which adds a 3-game suspension to their report date. That was a new one for me.
Just out of total, non-Packer curiosity, are there any other roster lists/designations in the NFL?
