They bench him 2 weeks ago and now he gets an extension? WTF? Washington is going to regret this move.

Just saw that and I am also puzzled over it. How does he go from getting benched to that?
WOW....not bad money for a guy who doesn't know or isn't in good enough shape to run the 2 minute offense!

Seems really strange, that's for sure...

My first thought was - no biggie, most of it probably isn't guaranteed. But $40M is guaranteed. And he even has some escalators that could take it to $88M.
That's just nuts.

Mike Vick must be positively giddy right now.

Are there still people that emulate Dan Snyder on here?

no wonder he wasn't very criticle in interviews saturday. that's gonna encourage bert to stay another year or two.

Wow. If Mcnabb is worth that money then we should have paid Arod 5 years - 200 million.
What are the Redskins thinking? They throw a ton of money at Haynesworth then they throw more at an old, overrated qb.

You're benched....oh, and here's a huge contract extension.
Dan Snyder has got to be the most effed up owner in sports. Wow.

Just for comparison:
McNabb 5 years $78 million $40 mill guaranteed
Rodgers 6 years $65 million $20 million guaranteed
And the winner is ... TT.

Its good to be able to write off the Redskins as serious contenders for the next few years. Or as long as they allow Snyder to own that team. I like McNabb and think he has been overrated and underrated in his career. But that contract is crazy.

Mmmm, thought I posted this in the new one...
McNabb is not having a great season but he's still one of the top QBs in the league . Not like it's easy to find QBs in this league and he really has no talent around him. Not saying I would have done it but I understand.
Agreed that it's not easy to find a top QB, but this type of a contract implies they have confidence he is their long term solution...shortly after he was benched. Seems like some pretty mixed messages to me!

You guys honestly think Mcnabb is a top QB ? Out of 12 years in the league, his QB rating has only been above 90 3 times. I think he is an average QB and is somewhere in the middle of the pack (maybe in top 15 QB's in league).

ok, depends on your definition of 'top'. No, he's not elite anymore, if he ever was.
top 15 == top half of the league, i.e. better than half the guys starting out there. I'd put him in that category.

Agreed. I guess I interpreted top as you saying he was elite. He is in the top 15, though probably closer to 15, but still top 15.
On a side note, how about Vick..WOW. Over 400 yards and 6 tds. My guess of the Eagles winning the division and the Giants collapsing is looking like it's going to happen.

McNabb's a good guy and a team player. He won't get any better over the next few years, but he might be just good enough as they rebuild, draft and develop a QB. Overall, McNabb would be as crazy NOT to sign it as Snyder was to undermine his hand-picked head coach and offer it. Too much money and too long of a contract.
on Vick and in honor of Mobb "DAYUM!"

The "Bad Timing" Award clearly goes to the Redskins.
That said, the 'Skins have not had a consistent QB in years. McNabb's an upgrade to what they have had.

I wonder what happens to them if they get a CBA done and there is a salary cap to deal with.

It might mean that McNabb will be throwing to rookies forever.

This makes a lot more sense. It's only $3.5M guaranteed.

That looks more like what was expected (actually, even a little low!). Snyder actually protected himself by putting the $10mil in the form of a 2011 roster bonus as opposed to a signing bonus.
The 2012 salary seems unlikely ($12.75mil) so if he play this year and next, it's a 2yr $16million contract, not bad. And if the team decides to go another way, they walk away from the roster bonus.

What about the Donte deal in Oakland?
He didn't even get his guaranteed money. Now the old HC doesn't either. Al Davis is crazy alright. Crazy like a fox.
