Does anyone know, or know where to go to find out the average NFL Head Coaching length? I know NFL players average like what, 3.5 years or something like that? I was just curious as to what the average length of work a Head Coach gets.

You could always check out Deadspin. They've been kind of a length resource lately.

Average head coach's length? They'll tell you it's seven, but it's actually more like four.

It's hard to believe that Jeff Fisher has been with the Titans since they were the Oilers in Houston.

A 2008 article puts it at 4.34 years, with a median of 2.88.

The longest tether goes to N.F.L. coaches, who have occupied their offices for an average of 4.34 seasons. Two coaches -- Jeff Fisher of Tennessee (since 1994) and Mike Shanahan of Denver (since 1995) -- skew the average, but the median (2.88) is still higher than in the other sports.
