I wonder if any of the really old rats already knew that this venerable record has stood for nearly fifty years, and perhaps they even know which quarterback holds it.

If you read the link all the way through the comments section one learns that Billy Volek was one lucky 63 yard bomb away from snatching the record away fron ol' Norm.

And Norm, Gazoo from the Flintstones called. He wants his helmet back.

My guess was Boomer Esiason before I read it was a 50 year old record. I remembered him throwing for over 500yds during his season with Arizona. Wikipedia tells me it's the 3rd highest, and it was 522 yards.

Tying this to the other thread, he's not a bad announcer either, and was a teamate of Collinsworth, the other announcer that seems well liked around here! And to yet another thread, he retired after a year back with Cinci, where he went 4-1 as a starter, and his last pass was a game winning touchdown! Yup, he knew how to ride off into the sunset.

Fun article to read. The one table was interesting, showing that since the 80s, a team that passes for over 400yds was behind at the half. Before 1970, they tended to be up by 10 points.

"older rats" would have been good enough, you didn't have to rub it in with "..really old...."!

I like the topics and information the writer in the linked article has, but is he maybe related to a former poster from north of the border?
