Just a great win. Couldn't be happier. Thought MM did a marvelous job. We have to play a little cleaner to beat Atlanta, but the way we're running it with Starks, they're not going to be able sleep on the run. That game was great for several reasons. When MM decides to go back to throwing it around, it might actually be a surprise.

The biggest play no one will remember is the 3rd and short run with Kuhn. MM took the hot runner Starks out and put in Kuhn. Bad choice. I would have rather seen Starks run it or a play action off of Starks for a short 5-10 yard pass. That was a huge play that I think nearly lost the game for us when we didn't convert.

Also, James Jones is still a fucking loser. Man that guy can not catch.

I loved how we played it. The only game we played all year similar to this one was the Flynn game against the Patriots. And this was a good Eagles team. It's not like we're going in there doing whatever we want as long as we call the right play. They get paid too and they deserve to be in the playoffs. We beat a legit playoff team on the road. That's no easy task. I'm proud of the coaches, even Slocum. He's done a much better job down the stretch. The Packers are a good team. It reminds me of the year Manning won the SB. He just managed that game. AR just won a game managing it. He's going to make plays next week and hopefully the week after, but that type of football we just played, it's winning football. I loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right, pb. I've heard Matthews and Zombo talk about some of their favorite plays. Zombo's, he read a formation by the Vikings and asked coach Green if he could jump it when he saw it. Green said he could if he htought he could make it. Zombo jumped it and made it. I know we remember a couple where Matthews jumped into the backfield. Sometimes when a player knows what's coming or thinks he does, he jumps it and makes a play. That's what happened. But who knows, that play still could have worked. It was 3rd and 1.

Running clock is important since the Eagles had no timeouts.

What is wrong with trusting a Caper's defense in the case you fail to convert? Proved to be the right decision.

Nothing. I shoot at play calling as it looked like a "set up" for the D but frek it, we won. Defense looked awesome sealing the win.

I think MM was more proud that the packers proved they can...

1. Run the ball.
2. Not run shotgun all game
3. Be very effective with mixing it up

Those three things were missing all year save the one game Flynn played. It was VERY nice to see a balanced play calling attack and a clear "keep Vick off the damn field" mentality for the gameplan. That is how you beat great playmakers - you keep them on the sidelines. Our defense showed up per usual. Matthews with a big sack and a tackle to stop a 3rd down run. Woodson had some nice pressures. Williams played the way he did all year - nearly perfect. Pass broken up, game ending pick.

Pretty impressive overall. Playcalling left some to be desired in the 4th quarter - we should of put them away instead of sitting on it, but it's alright. We won, and THAT's the bottom line.

After the Bear game MM spent all week talking about how he liked having the identity of the team being the defense. When it came down to it, they got the job done once again.

IMO, complaining about play calls is pointless. If the play worked MM was a genius, if it doesn't he was an idiot. Hard for me to criticize MM trying to run out the clock when Starks was getting 5 yards a pop. The only call I really disagreed with was when they brought in Kuhn for that 3rd and 1 and were stuffed. Starks was on a roll at that point and I would have liked to see him keep getting the ball.

it came down to a jump ball in the endzone on 1st and 10, from the 27, with 45 seconds left. if that ball had been caught for a touchdown, or one of the next couple of plays had it not been caught or intercepted, everyone's tune would be very different. we lucked out. the Packers pretty much scored at will until mm got conservative.

Driver with no limp after the game and only a mild knee bruise sustained. If I jinx us with this next statement I'm sorry, but how many injuries have we sustained since Rodgers went out against the Lions? Maybe we finally are getting a stretch of luck this season. McCarthy sure seems dumbfounded during his weekly presser, because he doesn't have any injuries to report on. Jenkins tightened up on that last drive, but wasn't much of a threat the entire game. I preferred having him in there tonight over Big Howard Green, and just think about how the week of rest is gonna help fatten Howie up for stuffing Turner.

I don't know that I ever posted it in a game thread or a thread, but I know when I watch the game with my dad we both agree that MM needs to do more play action passes on the goal line, and just in general. If I have bitched about MM not doing them, I see no reason to admit I was wrong when after MM finally does them they work. I was actually right.

Honestly, I get so sick and tired of the posts constantly bashing the opposing opinion or those opinions that think our head coach may not be up to snuff. With all the talent MM has to work with, we should be a better team. (For example, I don't know anyone who thought the Bears were more talented than us this year, yet they have a bye and we had to play this week, with a good coach we have 2-3 more wins at least) I hope we win a Super Bowl, but I think it will be in spite of MM and not because of him.

I did, however, think he called a decent game today. Other than the 4th quarter and a few brain farts here and there, it was pretty good. He mainly did what I think he should do though so why am I wrong when it works?

I'm also sick of the people who claim that we only say the playcall was good if it worked and bad if it didn't work. That is pure and utter BS.

Chantman, are you seriously trying to compare us to the Bears with all the injuries we have had this season? You forget the Bears also didn't have Peppers or Urlacher last season nor Mike Martz helping Cutler. While I dont agree with MM playcalling all of the time he has done a damn good job all season. Do you also realize how damn near impossible it is to call a perfect game? Although I'm sure it's real easy to call plays from your couch after the play is over. MM is not the one dropping passes and fumbling 4 times yesterday. With all the injuries we have had and to never be down by more than a TD all season is pretty damn impressive to me.

The Pack had 6 losses this year by a total of 20 points.

Jones fumble against the Bears set up Chicago's winning field goal. Not on coach.

Crosby hits the upright on a game winning field goal at the end of regulation. Not on coach.

Miami's kicker hits a career long 53 yard field goal just before half in the 3rd loss. Opposing player makes a play. Not on coach.

Against Atlanta, Rodgers fumbles into the end zone in taking at least 3 points off the scoreboard. Plus, special teams suck on kick off coverage to put the Falcons in great scoring position at the end of the game. Fumble not on coach but special teams play is.

Detroit, Jennings drops sure TD pass and Rodgers gets injured. Driver had his man beat on 4th down play that Flynn overthrew. Not on coach.

New England. No Rodgers but Pack has Pats on ropes most of the game. Flynn throws pick 6 and special teams allow a LINEMAN to run a kickoff back 70-some yards to keep Pats in the game. Special teams play on coach, interception on players.

Green Bay could have won every one of those games if the players had executed better. Just a 2 game swing puts the Pack at home with a bye. Our top running back goes down in week 1 and the TE weapon goes down in week 5. The defense loses 11 players during the season. I'd say the coaches got the most they could given the adverse circumstances that happened this year. I find it difficult to put the blame on MM for not having a bye week off. Shit happens and we fans get to bitch and piss and moan all day long but at the end of the day the Packers are STILL in the hunt for the Super Bowl and I''ll take that result every year, thank you!

The only play where I question MM's playcalling was running on 2nd and 9. Yet a couple of plays earlier on 2nd and 7, Starks had ripped off a 12 yard run. He may have thought he could get that again. In addition, an incomplete pass there would have stopped the clock and the Falcons probably would have gotten the ball back with 2:30 instead of 1:45. 45 more seconds plus a timeout. That's a huge difference. I suspect that was in the back of MM's mind.

Funny thing about all the criticism of MM being too conservative is that Holmgren used to do the same thing. Once he had a good defense, he would get conservative if he had more than a 3 point lead in the 4th quarter. It drove me nuts, but he won with it. I think MM had a lot of confidence that his defense could keep the Eagles out of the end zone. They did.

That's a pretty selective analysis of the losses. Of course you can pick a play in each game, call it the game-breaker, and say it wasn't the coaches fault. Big picture is where the coach matters, and in most (all?) of those, there was big picture issues.

To pick a couple of them...against Chicago, sure Jone's fumble was a back breaker. Team doesn't get called for an insane number of penalties though (which is on coach) I bet that play is a non-issue. McCarthy, however, did get that fixed

Late in the 4th Q against NE, we had the ball, plenty of time on the clock and a chance to win. We squandered about 5 minutes, and ran out of time at the end. Bad clock management, that's on coach.

I'm not bitching about coach here, he's done a great job these past few weeks! But to absolve him of all fault...well, that guy who's birthday we just celebrated is the only one without sin!

Wasn't absolving MM of all guilt. In 2 of my example games I specifically blamed the special teams play on coach. My point was that in all 6 loses the players were directly responsible for not getting the job done. Just 2 wins out of those 6 loses gives GB a bye and home field for at least 1 more game. Example from Eagles playoff game is Jones dropped TD pass before half. Change the entire complex of game. If we're up 21-3 at half, it's turn out the lights, the party's over. Didn't result in a loss but made the game a lot more interesting. MM has been challenge challenged his whole career. He refuses to let assistants go who need to be let go. He's definitely not without fault but at some point you have to hold the players to the fire for screwing up what might have been the proper play call.
