That is pretty funny...

I lived in Dallas (uptown) for work for a year. Part of my time was in Waxahachie.

I'm sure there are dozens more.

Sorry gang. It's your nation and who am I to, oh, whatever, but even the dumbest people in Germany can read. I don't even want to get into Australia. The story stinks and it's anything but funny. Thanks for posting and, send me your address.

Except in this version of literacy Tar, native English speakers (with possibly one exception, which would probably be Spanish) are trying to read anglicized versions of city names taken from Native American words. And those words origins aren't even from the same NA language in some cases.

So many of them were READING it correctly for English pronunciation (especially the young lad who was being studious and trying hard, not laughing at himself or embarrassed like the others) but getting it wrong because traditional rules don't hold. And that doesn't even account for bastardized pronunciations of the original word.

Or Fond du Lac.

It was always entertaining to watch the PC telethon on WBAY and listen to the celebrity guests screw up. My favorite was Shawano.

I gotta admit, when I was stationed at Ft. Hood, I was ALWAYS taken aback at driving through Ding Dong on the way to Austin.....
