Brandon Jackson was tendered a contract too
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 7, 2011, 10:22 AM EST
Earlier this morning, we passed along news that Packers wide receiver James Jones was tendered a one-year contract as a potential restricted free agent, despite a previous report the contrary.

A league source informs PFT that Packers running back Brandon Jackson was also given a RFA tag, despite a report to the contrary. (Yes, it was the same report as Jones.) Jackson’s tender was at the third-round level of compensation.

The tag on Jackson protects the Packers just in case players with four years of experience are not unrestricted free agents after a new CBA is reach. That scenario is viewed as unlikely.

A return to Green Bay for Jackson would not be a surprise, no matter what his status is. He may have more value to the Packers as a third-down specialist than he has anywhere else.

TT has all the bases covered.

This makes more sense. I thought it was a big surprise that Jones didn't get tendered.

What was Jones's tender?

As much as I've bad mouthed Jones, I think it would be great if we could keep him another year and he could sort out his drop issues.

A chicken. I don't think the Packers disclosed it and Jones didn't say either, per Silverstein.

Dammit. Speculation on why no tender for these two was some of our best offseason work. Back to the grindstone Patler!

And Silverstein should send back last week's paycheck.

Ya, the first question I asked in one of the threads was if we KNEW they had not been tendered. The info about Colledge and Crosby came from their agents. I still have seen nothing from the Packers about it. Heck, for all we know Hall and Swain may have been tendered too! Swain should be an exclusive rights free agent, I think. It would be somewhat surprising to me if they hadn't tendered him. Hall has missed a lot of games every year, they might be willing to move on from him, just as with Bigby.

Hall and Spitz would be good vet-minimum signings to bring to camp.

You did nail it. Silversteing gets Patlerized! lol

Although, with most of the national media, that's fish in the barrel not just for you, but for most of us. I very, very seldom read anything insightful or informative from them, because we've all been over it here 8 different ways.

Maybe we could shelf this thread for a bit and pretend like we never saw it.

Silverstein did mention in the JSO Blog that his source saw no other Packer tenders on the transaction wire. But he wasn't quite so circumspect last week.

it really doesn't cost that much to tender a guy so it really makes sense that they would lock up those 2 guys and maybe get some draft picks in return if they sign elsewhere. and if they don't, it doesn't cost a lot to keep a couple of decent players around

jones has to get his head on straight for next year. he's got a ton of talent, and heart from what i hear, if he could just hold on to the damn ball if could be a real nice weapon

Veteran players with ability. Jackson is a good change-up. Maybe EB fixes JJ drops.

It sure will be tough for new players to make the roster. Amazing TT can keep a talented roster together. Jenkins and Barnett may be the only players of note not returning. Both have already been replaced with solid players.

If tendering Brandon Jackson means, "Hey bro, here's a Super Bowl T-shirt and a comemmerative poster...Now get the fuck out out of town."...Snake is cool with that shit. That's a tender....right??

Jones is a third round tender also, he had about as many drops during the season as Jordy Nelson, and Driver is getting old, so I could see keeping him. BJack had a hell of a game in the Super Bowl, the Steelers blitzed a lot and he picked it up every time, he can catch, he has a great attitude, and he rarely fumbles, so I think he's worth resigning.

The Packers killed themselves with penalties in the 2009 season but it got fixed in 2010, the Bears game nothwithstanding. But M3 said that would be an area of focus and we saw the results. When he focussed on QB play, the Packers made it to the NFCCG game.

Even Shermy focussed on ball security with Ahman and that worked.

Now, there's a new positions coach at WR and there will be focus; M3 said as much in his last interviews. So, even with DD declining with every month due to age and Swain not peaking (lack of snaps?), I believe Jennings, Jordie and, yes, Jones will have less drops and better ball security than last season - provided, of course, the work stoppage doesn't get in the way.

The selflessness ? Finley), route running and play finishing of their WRs and TEs is already the envy of a vast number of teams.

I'm optimistic about Jones. I think Jackson has a role, but is in danger.

Funny thread to read through.

I had to pause when they gave kudos to our OL, and said Cutler would be better if he played behind one like it, but they're right pass protection from the OL was pretty good, and light years ahead of the Bear's.
