Haynes has really been disappointing for them. This sounds like something dreamed up by a Bears fan now that Denver lost Courtney Brown for the preseason.

Nice guy Haynes on last legs with Bears

August 10 - Chicago Sun-Times:

"If rumors out of Denver are correct and the Bears ** tried to sweeten a trade proposal by offering Haynes and a fourth-round pick for disgruntled wide receiver Ashley Lelie, then there is no escaping the obvious conclusion: The end is almost near."

** The draft pick was added, after the Bears first tried to trade Michael Haynes, straight up for Ashley Lelie.

Haynes was a horrible draft pick. At best he was considered a late first round selection but more teams probably had him mid second to late second. They reached on him some might say and now they can't get rid of a first round defensive end for a disgruntled 2nd string wide reciever.

why can't Denver take Fergy and we take Lelie? A change of scenery might be all he needs.

Published reports indicated that the Bears recently offered a fourth-round draft choice for Lelie, but that the Broncos are holding out for more, with several other potential suitors interested in the AWOL wideout.

Adding a player to the trade mix like Haynes, a first-round pick from Penn State in the 2003 draft and a player who seems to have fallen out of favor with Chicago coaches, might get the Broncos' interest.

League sources said that the Bears might be willing to deal Haynes as part of a package to acquire Lelie.

Denver may no longer need to acquire a tailback, having seemingly unearthed another gem at the position, with coach Mike Shanahan this week elevating undrafted free agent Mike Bell to the top of the depth chart. On the other hand, another veteran defensive lineman might look good to the Broncos, who on Saturday lost starting tackle Gerard Warren for 2-4 weeks with a dislocated left big toe.

Certainly, the Bears' situation at wide receiver, while not yet tire, could prompt general manager Jerry Angelo to view Lelie in a better light than he did a few weeks ago.

Veteran starter Muhsin Muhammad is nursing groin and wrist injuries. The player projected early in camp to join Muhammad in the starting lineup, Bernard Berrian, has a hip injury. Mark Bradley, for whom the Chicago coaches have great hope as a deep threat, is still not fully recovered from 2005 surgery on his right knee. Airese Currie is still rehabilitating from recent arthroscopic knee surgery.

While all of the injured players probably will be back on the field soon, and should be ready for the start of the regular season, their combined absences are slowing the progress of a Bears passing attack that ranked 31st in the league in 2005, and which must get better for Chicago to be a viable Super Bowl threat in 2006.

Angelo neither confirmed nor denied interest in Lelie, a player the Broncos have been attempting to trade for much of the offseason.

"I've always said we'll explore things and look at any position," Angelo said. "I'll leave it at that."

Haynes primarily played end for his first three years in the NFL, but the Bears moved him inside to tackle about halfway through last season, and that's where he has aligned in camp. Although he lacks tackle-type size, Haynes, 25, might be able to fit into the Denver scheme, with its emphasis on quickness. Even with some injuries on the Chicago defensive line, he is no lock to make the Bears' roster.

In 43 games, but only four starts, Haynes has 61 tackles, 5½ sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles. Buried on the depth chart in 2005, as the Bears saw several younger players contribute to the front four unit, Haynes had careers lows in games played (11), tackles (nine) and sacks (1½).

It is believed that Haynes would welcome the opportunity for a fresh start and that Chicago officials are hoping he plays well early in the preseason, to perhaps enhance his trade value.

Ain't that the truth. Heres a thought why don't we trade one of our many D lineman and a late round pick for Lelie they all are not going to make the roster so really all we would give up is a late round pick.

Denver fan reaction to Lelie trade rumors:

** Cowboys need receiver

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos WR Ashley Lelie could be on the radar of the Dallas Cowboys. Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said the team is interested in acquiring a receiver. Lelie is considered one of the top options available.

** Dallas could enter the mix for Broncos wide receiver Ashley Lelie, a holdout. Cowboys coach Bill Parcells told reporters Wednesday his team is interested in acquiring a receiver. Lelie is one of the top wideouts available.

Chicago and Philadelphia have shown recent interest in Lelie, who has amassed $196,000 in fines for missing training camp.

Give us the disgruntled Ellis, because he desperately wants to play in a 4-3. Cmon Baby! Make it happen!

** As much as Ellis wants out, the Cowboys want to keep him. Their organization loves the guy and probably won't give him up for what will be a #3 receiver. The pot would have to be sweetened a little, but I'd take Ellis in a heartbeat. The only negative is that it would give Dallas a scary receiving corps and I'd have to listen to it all season long.

** Adam Schefter has said New Orleans is interested in Ashley as well.......along with eight other teams including Philly, SF, Seattle, Dallas and Chicago.

He said the Broncos are content to sit until they get what they want.......

Comment:

There you have it on the Lelie trade rumor's. He could end up anywhere and he should be in the denver TC not tossing away his money.Rod Smith will not stay around forever and there is no solid gurantee that Javon Walker will excell this season coming off a leg injury so he needs to be in TC and displaying his ability to get more in a new contract as his is up after this season.

The Denver fans are pissed at Ashley Lelie and most just want him gone somewhere, but only for the right deal.

Denver has a need on the DL, so if Michael Haynes can step it up, then he would be a good fit. I know that Mike Shanahan will not go for a trade unless he gets the house and an extra kitchen sink. I believe that if the Bears really want Ashley Lelie, they only need to offer Haynes who = nothing to them (plus a third round pick) and - it's done.

Otherwise, Denver fans tell me that with the Bears depth on the DL that if the Bears offered DT Tank Johnson . . . . #2 RDT behind RDT Ian Scott on the NFL.Com version of their depth chart.

Tank Johnson (16 games - 25 tackles - 5 sacks - in 2005) and a mid round draft pick and the Bears would have Ashley Lelie.

Mike Shanahan is a fox and not a man to piss off either. If the deal isn't just right then Ashley Lelie will have to come crawling back.

Other probable teams to get Ashley Lelie are the Falcons (although, they have cooled) and Philadelphia seems a natural fit for him.
