VEVAY, Ind. (AP) — Kansas City linebacker Mike Vrabel was arrested Monday and charged with theft from a riverboat casino.

The Switzerland County sheriff’s department said Vrabel, 35, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. and released about 5 hours later on $600 cash bond. He was charged with a class D felony.

“It was an unfortunate misunderstanding, and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication,” Vrabel said in a statement issued through his agent. “I feel comfortable that after talking with the appropriate parties, we will resolve this matter.”

The incident happened at the Belterra Casino in Florence, Ind. A call to the security department of the casino was not immediately returned.

Vrabel, a three-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, is a member of the NFLPA executive committee and one of the plaintiffs in the players’ antitrust lawsuit against the NFL. A hearing is scheduled Wednesday in Minneapolis in federal court in the lawsuit.

Vrabel was traded from the Patriots to the Chiefs before the 2009 season and was a starter on the team last season that won the AFC West title.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Mike Vrabel, but we are not permitted to have contact with Mike at this time,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We understand that Mike has communicated publicly that the matter is a misunderstanding for which he takes full responsibility. We hope it is resolved for Mike in a positive way.”

Good thing he didn't take it from a garage or the Chiefs would be drafting a new LB.

He stole beer? Why didn't the teen at the 7-11 just kick his ass?

If only Lizzie Borden were alive today, she could much better defend herself for axe-murdering her parents: "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication."

Bill Clinton, regarding Monica Lewinsky and the cigar and the dress: "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and I take full responsibility for the miscommunication."

Ted Thompson's critics: "It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and we take full responsibility for the miscommunication."

I've seen people kicked out of a bar if they try to snag a beer, but never booked for a felony. I wonder if the riverboat is happy about the press they are getting. Maybe a new slogan is in order?

Come lose a bunch of money gambling and if you don't pay for a beer, we'll throw you in prison.

we shouldn't have to pay for beer

every person over the age of 18 should be issued a six pack every day by the government for all the shit we have to put up with

That casino is right across from the river from here. This shows the craziness of that wierd little area. They catch hillbilly kids stealing beer & shit from convenient stores. They convict 'em and some do 4-5 months in that county jail.

Vrabel boosted an 8 pack from the Belterra casino deli and got snagged.

The law is wacky, but those little Hoosier towns pride themselves in really screwing people over.

Every casino I've ever been in tries to get you as drunk as possible with free alcohol. I can't believe this wasn't kept in-house with the casino. I'm sure Vrabel would classify as a high-roller. I don't get it.

Agreed. Have to think there's more to this story that might come out.

When he got caught, I can't see him not laughing and paying for it...several times over. Something else is going on here.

Something else is going on? Hookers. It's gotta be hookers. Felony? Maybe dead hookers. And a missing baby.

I like speculating about what that evil evil Mike Vrabel did.

Sodomy and dead hookers.

I bet the casino is owned by Jerry Jones!

Haven't you heard? There's a work-stoppage. The guy is essentially unemployed. Just another one of those no-account losers gambling away what little money he has left while wallowing in drunken self-pity about how mistreated he is!

And selling secrets to the Russians. And some bestiality somewhere in there, too.

Harlan would have blasted him with a shotgun, and asked questions later.

Dead, sodomized sheep with loose morals.

Let's go with that.
