Cobb: Right now I'm trying to get ahold of Rodgers. I want to be whereever he is as soon as possible.

Nice.

pretty cool. he's got to super excited at the prospect of being an arod target for several years. sure hope he pans out.

cobb was the last guy left in the green room, like AROD
Cobb said he wants to get in touch with AROD asap to start their relationship
I like the attitude (though they invited a lot more guys to the green room this year than usual).

He's a weeder but I'd also add Ballard to the list; he was suppose to go in round two..........but like drafting Justin Houston....it's a risk and takes some
serious stones to draft a guy with questionable character.

Does the ridk outweight the reward ? How would I know; I liked Odell Thurman :)

Well, well. Al Davis drafted a fast guy. Maybe this year it will work.

And can someone parse the draft gobbledygook for me? Half the writeups say Cobb's among the top 5 WRs in the draft, the other half say he might need to move to RB. And the Packers had Bennett talking about him.

Where does he play (Cobb that is not the Raider pick)?

Kendrick Ellis is a freak athlete, but a huge character concern. We jsut took two boyscouts and we usually do take good guys. Maybe Ellis is off our board.

Alex Green, RB, Hawaii
Height: 6-0. Weight: 225.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 34. Broad: .
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.
4/3/11: Alex Green stood on his Combine numbers at his Pro Day. He looked terrific in the drills, however. He has private workouts with the Eagles, Rams and Titans coming up.

2/20/11: Alex Green is a big back, but he can contribute as a third-down specialist; he caught 27 balls for 363 yards for Hawaii in 2010.

draft ace on green

Strengths:
Prototypical size for a workhorse running back at the next level. Extremely productive down the stretch in 2010 once Hawaii finally committed to him as their go-to running back. Surprising quickness for his size. Looks good as a receiver out of the backfield; reliable hands.
Weaknesses:
Extremely limited experience. JUCO transfer who didn’t become a full-time player at Hawaii until the second half of his senior year. Never had more than 19 carries in a game at Hawaii. Comes from a spread offense which created plenty of open running lanes; limited experience running between the tackles and picking up tough yardage.
Comments:
Green is one of the most intriguing late-round options at running back. Down the stretch in 2010 he really looked like he had a bright future in the pros, but prior to October he was barely on the NFL radar screen. How much of his success was a result of Hawaii’s system? He could be a player just scratching the surface of his potential, or he could be a fluke who will quickly fade in the NFL.

Badgerinmaine
04-29-2011, 09:20 PM
Wow, I don't know...
NFLN (I edited selectively): Green does not project to be an every-down back at the next level... will not consistently break tackles in the NFL. He also has a case of fumble-itis. He excels in the passing game...Green will likely be a late round pick due to his ability as a receiver.

NFL Draft Scout is mostly positive and figured he was making a late move to the middle rounds. But one of his negatives was lack of vision.

Seems like he is going to need some time. They also had a 4.45 combine time for the 40 not 4.5 as other sites have it.

jmbarnes101
04-29-2011, 09:25 PM
Does this mean TT doesn't want any more stinkers like the Lions game? We've gone OT/WR/RB to add depth and weapons and neglected the D to this point. He must feel very good about that side of the ball or he feels this is where the value is or both. He who shall remain nameless would have loved this approach to the draft, sucks to be him.

Perhaps they saw BJax as having maxed out on his potential and are looking for someone with better upside? I know nothing about this kid Green, but I trust the Packer brain-trust. Jackson was a decent player, but perhaps this kid can be an even better one. They seem to have RB covered now.

I didn't know who this guy was. Just watched a video of him.

Here's what I like:

1. No non-sense running style. He doesn't screw around behind the line of scrimmage
2. He runs through arm tackles
3. He has one of the most effective open field stutter moves I've ever seen
4. He's a upper teir athlete with excellent 40 yard, 3-cone and shuttle times, showing very good speed and change of direction athleticism (the later more important than the former.)

Things I don't like

1. He ran out of a bizzare looking spread system. It's going to look a little different in the NFL. Hard to tell how he's going read blocks in a zone scheme vs the slip draw stuff they run at Hawaii.

Bretsky
04-29-2011, 09:44 PM
Height: 6-0 1/8

Weight: 220

40-yard dash: 4.63

Current projection: Fourth-round pick.

Strengths: Is a strong and thickly built runner who absorbs hard hits and keeps on going. Is surprisingly quick and nimble for a big back, changing directions quickly to avoid defenders who shoot into the backfield. Shows the burst to bounce runs outside when the middle is clogged. Shows a good burst through the hole, and runs through arm tackles. Shows a strong stiff-arm to jolt would-be tacklers. Wraps up the ball nicely in traffic. Works hard in pass protection, and when using good technique he can be good.

Weaknesses: Runs upright, exposing himself to too many big hits and prevents himself from delivering big blows to defenders and thus is not as effective in short-yardage situations as he should be. Is not terribly elusive, and doesn't stop/start effectively to make would-be tacklers whiff. Played in a pass-first offense in college, and thus hasn't proved capable of handling a full-time load. Uses poor technique too often in pass protection, and lacks awareness to pick up the correct blitzer. In limited experience, does not look natural catching the ball.

Bottom line: Green has the size, strength, quickness, explosiveness, speed and athleticism to be a good NFL starter but didn't get the ball enough in college for personnel men to feel good about him being a durable long-term solution. He looked great on film but was unimpressive at the East-West Shrine practices, which is a concern. He is sure to shine at the NFL Scouting Combine and in other pre-draft workout, but GMs should be a bit wary because he hasn't proved a lot on the field. That said, he has the potential to develop into an Arian Foster-type back.

He looks like he could be an upgrade as a third down back. He's not as hesitant at the line there's no footage of him picking up the blitz though. He's got the center of gravity to hit a linebacker.

I'd like to see him run through more people at that weight, too. A big back with speed, hands, and quicks? I'm happy.
I can't remember our schedule, but if we play New Mexico State. He's gonna light 'em up.

He came out of no where. I'm listening to TT. Said he came from JUCO, maybe didn't get all of the carries in his first year at Hawaii. He said he was, "the man", this year. He said they first noticed him at the E-W Shrine game and he was the cream of the crop there. Then he sort of grew on him, said he was special on film.

For those who don't have retarded TT press conference memories like me, the last guy I remember him saying was special on film was Clay Matthews and Clay was another guy who came out of no where. Saying a guy is special on film seems like a bit of a compliment coming from TT. Maybe he reserves it for guys who don't have a lot of film so he says the film that is there is special, I don't know. Whatever the case, TT said his game is special. That's a kinda big deal I think.

I think we should be excited about this RB because Thompson is. He's a guy who didn't have a lot of film or build-up, but he was flat out dominant when he got his chance and he was the best RB at the E-W Shrine game. Not that I know it all, but I watched his clip and I'm a big believer in guys either breaking tackles or making guys miss. He does both. I think he could be great. He looked great at Hawaii.

I have a crazy half-cocked theory that one of TT's strategies for the offseason is "guys who Aaron Rodgers will take under his wing". I mean, we get the LT that keeps him from being dead, a shifty WR with whom Rodgers can swap stories about being the last guy in the Green Room, and another Butte CC Alum.

It's like he's dropping hints about "Hey, why don't you guys organize some practices if this lockout thing doesn't go away."

My guy. Drafted by a team that runs the same defensive scheme. My best friend, who is a Steelers fan, really liked Aaron Williams also, and wanted the Steelers to take him in round 1. He said they need a CB. I told him (at the start of round 3) that Brown was the guy I liked the most for our schemes. Then, Brown went to the Steelers. :)
