NFP:
A tall, good-looking corner with above-average length and overall body control for the position. Isn't a real impressive press corner at this stage. Doesn't look real comfortable trying to get his hands on receivers and has a tendency to almost jump back off the snap. Needs to do a better job extending his proper arm initially into his man and simply isn't real physical on contact. However, he does display good overall fluidity when asked to turn and run and does a nice job keeping his feet under him out of his transition. Allows his pad level to get a bit high, which takes away from his ability to get back up to full speed, but he does have the kind of second gear to track the football and make up for a false step. But initially he will allow receivers to get behind him and is forced to play from behind.

Looks a lot more comfortable in off-man. Does a nice job sitting into his drop, keeping his legs under him and doesn't waste much motion when asked to click and close. Gets up to speed quickly, but lacks consistent positioning, at times plays too far off and will allow some easy completions underneath. Needs to do a better job keeping his pad level down when asked to transition out of his breaks. Again, gets too high which causes him to struggle maintaining his balance through the play. Can get a bit leggy trying to regain his footing when trying to get out of his breaks laterally and will give up some separation. Isn't a real impressive tackler, doesn't routinely keep his head up and hit what he sees. Takes good angles but is more of a drag down guy.

Impression: The size/speed and fluidity is all there, but he needs to clean up his pad level in and out of his breaks. Should be able to do so with better NFL coaching and has the ability to start if he wants it bad enough.

Grade: 6.1 D (A clean prospect who will need time and development in order to contribute…physically, this player has all the tools to be a starter in the NFL but has not yet developed the necessary skills due to level of competition, offensive or defensive schemes, injury, grades or lack of playing time…true developmental player who has the potential to become a starter. This prospect has NO weakness in any critical factors, but will need time and development in order to fulfill his potential.)

Production: 2
2007: (13/13) 37 tackles, 2 TFL, 8 PBU, 4 INT. 2008: (12/12) 40 tackles, 1 TFL, 6 PBU, 2 INT. 2009: (13/13) 68 tackles, 1 TFL, 13 PBU, 3 INT. 2010: (12/12) 57 tackles, .5 TFL, 10 PBU, 2 INT (1 returned for TD).

Height-Weight-Speed:2
Very good overall measureables for the position along with excellent top-end speed.

Durability: 1
Four-year starter that hasn't missed any time with injuries.

Intangibles: 3
Studies film of former Boise State corner and New York Jets 2010 first-round pick Kyle Wilson. A lot to like about confidence but can get carried away. Told Associated Press that New Mexico State's receivers were 10 times better than Nebraska's leading up to 2008 Nebraska game.

Cornerback Specific Traits

Instincts/Recognition: 3
Reads quarterback's eyes in zone coverage. Adequate route recognition skills but can be a quarter count late getting head turned to locate the ball when running with receiver downfield. Does an adequate job of locating the ball when playing off the line of scrimmage but could read receiver and recognize run quicker when asked to line up in press coverage.

Cover Skills: 3
Effective press corner that appears comfortable lining up close to the line of scrimmage. Uses long arms and strong upper body to re-route receivers. Can flip hips, turn and run with receivers. Shows adequate speed when tracking the deep ball. Flashes the ability to stay with receivers on stop-and-go routes but doesn't have elite hip fluidity and vulnerable to more fluid double moves. Allows too much separation coming out of breaks. Too physical at times and could take him some time to adjust to NFL rules regarding contact.

Ball Skills: 3
Adequate closing speed when the ball is in the air. Can reach in and knock the ball down without getting flagged. Appears to have big hands and can snatch the ball out of the air but drops some passes that should catch. Not as effective in jump-ball situations as height would suggest. Fails to elevate and extend both arms at times.

Run Support: 3
Will step up when reads run. However, needs to show more aggression in this area. Adequate open-field tackler that wraps up on contact but wraps up too high and will have some problems getting bigger ball carriers to the ground. Possesses the ability to discard blockers but frequently takes too long to get off blocks.

Overview:
The WAC has produced a cornerback in the top 100 picks in four of the past five drafts, including Kyle Wilson, the Boise State product picked in the first round of the 2010 draft by the Jets. Wilson's fellow cornerback on the all-conference first-team last season was House, a three-year starter from California who has scouts flocking to Las Cruces this fall.

House stepped in as a true freshman to play in all 12 games, starting several when injuries hurt the secondary, quickly letting WAC quarterbacks know it wasn't wise to throw to his side; he had 37 tackles, two for loss, intercepted four passes and eight breakups on the season. He put up similar numbers in 2008 despite being avoided regularly (40 tackles, two interceptions, six pass breakups), then really broke out with the all-conference performance, leading the WAC in interceptions (three) and breakups (13) while making 68 stops. House returned one of his picks for a touchdown and returned a fumble 38 yards for a score.

Comparisons between House and Wilson will play out throughout the draft process, but they are different players. House projects as a man press corner on the outside (though he could play zone) because of his height and speed. Wilson also stepped up at Senior Bowl practices, cementing his status as a top-40 prospect. If House runs as expected and performs well at an all-star game, teams will project him as a starter capable of shutting down NFL receivers.

Analysis:

Read & React: Has adequate reaction time and instincts on the outside. Explodes into ballcarriers on outside runs but can also be a step late supporting against the run or stopping his pedal to get to receivers on stop routes. Maintains contact with his man on misdirection plays; can recover from double moves quickly. Very good hand-eye reaction time to pick off bobbled passes and knock away passes at the last second.

Man Coverage: His best asset, as he uses his size, speed and length to adeptly handle outside responsibilities in man coverage. Good backpedal and quick feet to wait until his man makes a move inside or outside. Runs with any receiver down the sideline and maintains contact to prevent separation. Tight coverage forces quarterbacks to often go in another direction or take a sack. Good ball skills; times his jumps well if quarterbacks test him deep and looks to return the ball as far as possible after making a pick.

Zone Coverage: Plays a lot of man coverage but shows promise as a productive NFL zone corner. Solid tackler who can plant and drive to stop receivers after the catch and support the run when playing off the line. Stays cognizant of the quarterback in the end zone, will come off his man to make a play on the ball. Must prove he has the discipline to come off receivers leaving his area so quarterbacks don't throw behind him into the vacated area.

Closing/Recovery: Closes on the ball very well whether it is in the air or he's bringing down receivers to prevent yards after catch. Is sometimes turned around by double moves or outside-in head fakes, but recovers quickly to get back into the play. Time his jumps well when going up for the ball. Needs to tighten up his steps when transitioning forward from his pedal.

Run Support: Looks the part of a physical corner who will get the job done in run support. Flashes the ability to stay low and square to wrap up elusive ballcarriers in the flat. Gets outside angle on receiver to force plays inside, and can rip off blocks with his long arms, but must have more consistent urgency to get to the ball. Will stand around piles instead of inserting himself.

Tackling: Effective as a wrap and cut tackler against receivers and running backs. Generally gets the thighs of ballcarriers on cut tackles to bring him them down. Willing to lower a shoulder to hit a back, even if it's a bit late. Impressive chasing to the opposite side of the field, using his speed and the angle to track them down before they reach the end zone. Also capable of chasing down running backs from behind if they get outside him to the sideline.

Intangibles: Coaches have no issues with his work ethic. Has gained bulk in the weight room during his time at NMSU. Did not play football until his junior year of high school, focused on baseball before that. Hasn't missed a game in his Aggies career.

Biography: "Four-year starter awarded all-Conference honors the past two seasons. Senior totals included 57/2/10, when he struggled throughout the year with an ankle injury. Junior numbers included 68/3/13."

Positives: "Athletic cornerback with good size and ball skills. Fluid pedaling in reverse, quick flipping his hips, and smooth in all his movements. Plays heads-up football, shows a burst of closing speed, and effectively positions himself against opponents to defend the throw. Fast up the field to defend the run and aggressive with opponents throughout routes. Displays the ability to drive to the ball out of his plant."

Negatives: Does not take proper angles to the action in run defense. Loses a half step out of his transition turning to run with opponents. Slow reacting at times.

Analysis: House is a talented player who has been productive on the college level. He comes with a great amount of upside and has starting potential in the NFL if he is able to fine-tune his game and consistently do the little things well.

Projection: 3rd

Grade: 2.69 (Future Starter -- A good athlete that must learn to be a football player or someone who is an "overachiever". Quality prospect with long term potential )

Sort of seems like the consensus on him is "talented player who needs some coaching to overcome some bad tendencies".
