alright, whats everyone reading out there? other then this forum

i just finished reading the first 2 books in the "dexter" series by jeff lindsay. they are what the TV show is based on, and they were both damn good. i think i actually like the books a little better then the tv series, but not by much.

now i'm reading "the girl with the dragon tatoo", to see what all the hub-bub is about. it starts off pretty slow with a lot of swedish names and places i'm not familiar with, but its starting to pick up

I'm reading a lot of career redevelopment, corporate communication and transitional stuff right now. Not my most fun summer of reading. If I get a new job soon, I'll find a trashy summer novel from the bookshelf to read. I did read a Stegner book (Crossing to Safety) when I was on the cruise along with Auntie Mame. Decent reads, both though I'm not sure you'd really get into Mame.

I just finished reading Water For Elephants and liked it. I haven't been reading like I used to, things are just too busy. Wanted to try out my daughters new Kindle and read that book over a long weekend. BTW I love the Kindle!

lol no, it's a story of the depression-era Circus. What I found interesting was some of the research done for the book was done at Circus World in Baraboo, WI, which I have been to before. The movie was out recently and I haven't seen it but want to now that I read the book. The movie is starring Reese Witherspoon....who I really like. I heard the movie did not get the best reviews though.

so its historical fiction?

if you're into those type of books check out "devil in the white city". its all true but its two stories in one. its about one of the first serial killers in the us who happened to be doing his stuff just down the road from where the chicago worlds fair was. good stuff, its got some mystery and it gives you a pretty cool history lesson

I am on the third Steig Larrson book, the girl that kicked the hornets nest. It is pretty good, a bit slow but very good writting which is important.

My g/f is a librarian, but, in order to keep things in the Romper Room...I am reading a lot of Orson Scott Card lately, she is recommending the Mackenzie Phillips bio, agrees with GrnBay on Water for Elephants, and also says pick up anything by Douglas Coupland (a Canadian author from Vancouver) if you like quirky weird humour.

Nope. I was serious when I said I haven't been reading like I used to. I bet it's been 3 years since I read a book before I read the one I posted about above. Sad!! Early spring until November is crazy busy at our house but I am going to make it a point to start reading more. It's something I used to enjoy. I'm jotting down notes from this thread for future reference. :)

Its the fact that the writing is very very good.

`
I am in the middle of the book "The Last Hero". It is a biography about Henry "Don't call him Hank" Aaron. I don't know much about the Milwaukee Braves and not only does it give a nice hand job to Aaron, it is a wonderful historical look at baseball during segregation and also Milwaukee in the early 50s and 60s.

Who is the famous baseball player with the pic with the bat resting on his shoulder and other arm extended pointing out? Can't remember who he said it was but my boy had his pic taken the other day for his last year of little league baseball and the coach told him to pose that way. He said he couldn't keep a straight face .....I'm like, oh great, it's gonna look like u are pointing at someone laughing. :) Oh well, last year....it's been the "fun" baseball this season a break from the all-serious HS baseball. Can't wait to see the pic.

I don't know of such a famous picture, but it's probably a reference to Babe Ruth's called shot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babe_Ruth's_called_shot).

I went to a movie last weekend and saw previews for The Help. It looks good. I had my daughter get it on her kindle and I'm going to try to read it this weekend.

That brings about a question. Anyone want to brag on their ereaders? I still like the feel of a book in my hand, but it would likely be nice for travel. My phone would suck for reading on the beach.

You know what is a complete kick in the balls? They are making ONE SHOT into a movie and guess who is going to play Jack Reacher? Reacher is supposed to be 6'5" 250 pounds so think someone half that size and you will come across the one and only Tom Cruise. Fuck Hollywood.

No shit? That's the dumbest idea I ever heard. What a waste of a great story.

I have a 4th gen kindle and an ipad....the kindle is so easy on the eyes...the ipad is fine and the backlighting of course helps in certain situations...but as a pure reader the kindle steal beats it.

We have a kindle. But, truthfully, I convert them to .pdf and read them on my laptop. I dim the screen a little to reduce wear and tear on the eyes, but I find it easier to only have one device.
