Replay showed Barnett jumping into a mass at the tackle hole while the runnign back was headed outside, he couldn't see the ball. 24 had outside and blew it, but if Barnett hadn't jumped, he would have had pursuit

FAVRE GETTING FLATTENED

In his first football action since an offseason in which he toyed seriously with retirement, Packers quarterback Brett Favre is getting a rude re-introduction to the game of football from the Chargers, who have sacked and hit Favre multiple times less than seven full minutes into the game between Green Bay and San Diego.

With a young offensive line breaking in a new zone blocking scheme, Favre could spent plenty of time in 2006 in a horizontal position.

Meanwhile, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers looks good so far in his time with the starting offense, leading the team to a touchdown.

One drawback for San Diego? Promising young running back/returner Darren Sproles was carted off with an apparent left knee injury.

Sandiego is a good football team. They have tough, aggressive players. The Packers are building a team in that mold but it doesn't happen overnight. It's hard to make any real conclusions off of one game but I just think SD is a better team.

Hawk had a nice hit, lost GAtes on coverage and a coupla of more shaky pursuits. He looks OK but not full speed yet. Pass coverage was horrible, Harris, Carrol and Fontenot gave up plays. One also given up by Culver on a Mark Roman 10 yard tackle.

hawk made some plays, and woodson did alright. underwood got hurt right off the bat and is probably done for the season.

thats about all that looked good in the first
carroll got beat quite a bit, and when he didn't get beat he was grabbing his guy and they just didn't call the penalty. harris looks like he should have been working out with the team at the OTA's, he looked horrible

we got zero pass rush, which is to be expected, and picket and allen both goth hurt

honestly, this is about par for the course for what i expected...i'm aiming to see the unit I hope to see in our 3rd preseason game...next week we'll be seeing Mike Vick, Randall and Shockley (and Matt Schuab)...but the first 3 are mobile runners...and I think the Falcons are going to regret keeping Schuab, not getting some draft picks for him, and having to cut Randall or Shockley

RashanGary

I don't think Underwood is out for the season. It looked like a partial tear. I really don't think his whole knee gave out. We'll see. It looked similar to Favre/Arrington knee bend.

It's easy to have 100% completion when you waste a down and precious time throwing to a RB who is going no where.

they said allen hurt his "side", whatever the hell that means. maybe he pulled a love handle

pickett just busted up a couple of fingers

underwoods knees buckled pretty good, for someone who needs to move as fast as him and cut and all that, it could be something that keeps him out

It might actually be better for Underwood to be out the year; then he can be put on IR and not waste a roster spot...not going to be good having him taking a spot the first half of the season and not active.

Then we can hang onto Culver and Boger both.

Can someone explain to me why they think Favre looked that good? He was 5 for 10, that's looking ok, not great. No picks, but he didn't compare well to Rivers.

I liked what Rodgers showed, I'm ready for the new era to begin. No, he won't be better than Brett. No one will. But he'll be better than he would be if he sat on his butt again all season.

Well listening to the Sirius to the game - not real excited.

Not happy to hear Taucher getting burned so much - I was expecting him to be golden. I hope they don't abandon the run so quick during the regular season.

Hawk sounded like he did pretty good for a rookie - some mistakes, but some good plays.

O-line needs a lot of work - on the positive side, I didn't hear anything negative about Clifton or College.

Defensive secondary sounded terrible - it seemed like the d-line and linebackers did okay.

I liked McCarthy going for it on the 4th - Jennings needs to catch the ball.

I'm a little concerned, but I need to remember - new coaching staff - multiple rookies playing - new scheme - first game.

Still have some kook-aid left.

Alright, I did not see too much of the game, but a few observations:

Favre looked like he is having fun in the last drive. He stayed in longer than expected, and that is wonderful. He wasn't playing great, but thats alright.

Tausher looks like he is helping out Spitz too much. I saw him get beat a few times tonight, and that NEVER happens. That is a damn shame in my eyes.

If Hawk turns out to be as good as Merriman, we're some lucky mofos. He is an absolute beast!!

Dline looks like they were getting some pressure for the most part.

Hawk is a big hitter, and is showing up a bit tonight. At the very least, he hits like a man.

The corners look pretty poor in my opinion. They look slow and aren't jamming effectively. They seem to be getting burned.

Phillip Rivers is making me forget about Drew Brees. I predict there is an article about Phillip Rivers on either ESPN or SI.com this week.

These are all from watching from the Carroll touchdown until the end of the first quarter.

So much for the run first theory. :D The OL is just plain bad right now. If it doesn't get any better the season will be very long. The only good offensive series was the one where Favre just threw it down after down as he ran for his life. We all know where that will lead.

Interior part of the o-line looked out of sorts. The zone blitz nearly got Brett decapitated.

The dropped passes/balls off the hands put offense behind the 8-ball. The 2 worst were Davenports' drop on a screen and Jennings' drop on the 4th down play. He had but didn't pull it in. The 3rd and 1 run play to the left stunk. Way too much d-line penetration.

For all the hype about the d-line, the only 1 to show up was KGB. Otherwise virtually no pressure whatsoever!

Woodson looked like a rookie on the punt return.

I didn't think I'd say it but Fergy actually looked pretty good. Great catch on 3rd down play.

Colllns/Jennings,

Yes, I do. They don't look deep at many positions, but A-Rod looks pretty good. At least he looks good enough to be succesful with a running game. Reminds me a lot of Kitna, the first ever Partial avatar

I don't want to be the appologist for Rodgers, but Boerigter looked like a freaking sissy right there. I'm sorry, that guy needs to be cut right now.

When Rodgers plays against a 1st team without a running game or OL and moves the ball I might change my mind about him.
