Ray Dominguez - guard

http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/126227593.html

Had offers from 17 or 18 teams.
Projected by some as a possible 3rd or 4th round pick, others as a 5th or 6th.
Somewhat of a raw project, with not a lot of football background.
Played tackle, but expected to move to guard in the pros.
Needs weight training badly.
Has already added weight while reducing body fat since the combine.
Had better offer elsewhere, but chose Green Bay.

Will be a guy to watch in TC.

Yep. 6'4" 337.

This is interesting.

After talking with Coach (James) Campen last night for a good 45 minutes, I realized it was the best fit for me.

Cool. Now I have a body to root for and hope he becomes more than camp fodder.

I still think this Sam Shields guy from Miami has a shot to make the team.

So if they like him but he's not ready they'd have to keep him on the active roster since he'd very likely get plucked off waivers or the practice squad.

He's this year's Marshall Newhouse/Nick McDonald.

Shields way too raw. Practice Squad at best.

What on earth would Ray talk to James Campen about for 45 minutes? Favre? If it was actually about scheme and technique, they should hire him as asst O line coach.

Maybe James Campen is a feel-good guy. Maybe he should be a college recruiter.

Not necessarily. Waivers could be an issue, but would a team really want to use a roster spot at the start of a season for such a raw player that they have absolutely no experience with? Probably not likely. Once he gets to the Packer PS, the choice is his whether to leave or not. Perhaps he and his agent realize that what he really needs is a year on the practice squad to learn and develop. He chose GB for a reason. He might be content to stay on the Packers PS for a year even if an offer comes from another team.

Besides, he said he turned down a higher offer to come to GB. If the fit is that important to him, he may be happy to stay on the PS rather than bolt to a team where he doesn't know how he fits.

PB, maybe you're on to something there. Perhaps he knows his career may be short lived and is trying to get in position to coach with Campen someday.
