Can Kuhn block? They sure don't need him as a runner anymore. I guess it is good news that they don't have to rely on that stumble bum Johnson.

Hopefully this means that virtually all of the FBs in the league make the vet minimum.

ya, I see Kuhn as a fairly marginal player. I have a memory of his being the worst blocker among last year's trio.

That's Ted Thompson for ya - always throwing around the big bucks.

Korey Hall.

Korey Hall.

Except he was a FA and signed with the Saints, didn't he? Or have I been reading that name wrong?

Hall signed with the Saints. There is another FB on the roster. He's a UDFA from Minnesota. Hoese or something like that.

We drafted a guy in the 7th round also named Ryan T....(forget his last name) who I think is a TE/FB if I'm not mistaken.

Kuhn has no talent but he's heady, does the dirty work and has a ton of heart. Good guy to have on the team.

Harlan is your colon failing you or something? I completely forgot you piss and moan so much. ;-)

Kuhn has talent. For a FB he's relatively shifty and fast. Enough to play RB and make it work. Could you imagine Hall or Johnson carrying ball? Add on that he blocks, can catch the ball, and is good on special teams. I think you are underestimating his talent. He ain't great, but he's versatile and not too shabby in all of the things he does. Spencer Havner is like a poor man's Kuhn. Now that guy has little talent. :)

For a fullback, he has talent. He's a blue-collar guy through and through and that's good.

Good move due to versatility.

IMO TT drafted the Arkansas and NC tes to also be defacto tes.

QJ is most likely gone -- average st player and missed too many blocks.

Disagree. Q Johnson will start in normal 2 back formations.

Maybe if he make the roster.

RB Locks -- Grant, Starks, Green and Kuhn

TEs/Fullbacks -- Finley, Quarless, Williams, and Havner or the NC rookie

I think that Kuhn is going to get first look in the third down back role to replace Jackson.

Maybe. Green is the eventual 3rd down back.

The blocking issue is not an issue.

In the Hawaii run and shoot offense (its not the spread or pistol) the first requirement of a running block is pass blocking since the offense does not have a tight end or fullback.

Green did not play early in his Hawaii career due to the coaches not trusting his pass blocking. Bulked up and significantly improved pass blocking. Blocking is not an issue for Green.

Actually, "blocking" is the first thing you look for in a third down back, since blitzers hit the QB harder than linemen (c.f. the hit that ended Tony Romo's season last year.) I think that if Kuhn were not to win the 3rd down back role, it would be Starks (since he's more familiar with the offense, and he's got fantastic hands.) Green may be that way eventually, but I think honestly that in the long run Green profiles as the starter while Starks profiles as the third down/change of pace back.

Green is capable of becoming an every down back.

Green's strengths are pass catching and pass blocking. Great in screens and swing passes.

Early on its easier for Green to focus on being the third down back since the Packer run 4 receiver one back sets similar to the run and shoot. The running lanes are similar. Green is also capable of picking up the correct blitzer.

The adjustment for Green is the two back set (looked lost in the East West shrine game).

In terms of size speed combo, Green profiles like a bunch of guys who have had excellent NFL careers. Deuce McAllister comes to mind. Starks though, Starks is a weird animal. He's one of those RBs who almost project to WR: tall, long strider, fantastic hands. I think that long term if both of these guys work out we're looking at Green as the top back who is the hammer who grinds defenses, while Starks is the change of pace. Not this year, certainly. Grant's top dog, and Starks is ahead of Green until Green learns the playbook.

I expect Starks to be the #1 back before year is out.

why? because I said so, that's why.

We are stacked at RB next season, it going to be interesting to see any new plays with Starks and Green's ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. I miss those Ahman Green screen plays, they always seem to go for huge yards.

That would have been me. I kinda thought that him coming off injury, getting a bit old, and having a Barnett like salary might get him waived before he ever got back to camp. I'll eat crow. I'll have a double helping if he has a big year and I'll like it.

I think this had as much to do with hall getting a contract somewhere else, as it did with a big desire to keep kuhn. I doubt either one of them got too much of a deal. I'd like to see details on Kuhn's deal, but nothing out yet.

White guy!? I thought the many white racists of GB were taunting a black guy with that cheer. (It's time I got satelite TV, I miss a lot with my fuzzy antenna reception.)

Kuhn was 12-15 converting 1st downs on 3rd down and 1 of 2 on 4th. That's pretty damn good.

Whats not to figure out? Hes a white running back. hahaha Hes also versatile and runs hard. I've never liked him as a running back because he had no big play ability. As a FB I think he a perfect fit for our scheme with ability to catch out of the backfield. Hes also a good special teams player. Like I said earlier in the offseason there was no way TT was letting this guy or Crosby walk. Still I just can't believe we resigned Jones though. Madden 12 is going to be fun :)
